My daughter and I arrived at 5:30 in the afternoon. We had driven 30 minutes to get there and hit all sorts of miserable LA traffic. We were told that They would close at 6:00. I've been here many times and always come back for the borsch. Despite the name, it appears to be a Russian or Ukrainian place with food of the like, and delicious baked goods. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only native English speaker around, which is a dead giveaway it's authentic. The sandwiches here look good too! Tip: there's no tap water. Only bottled. read more

Ive been on a napoleon kick lately and found this place and decided to try it The first couple times the napoleon was okay not as good as one at a similar European bakery a few streets up (papillion international bakery) But today i asked for the same thing and they sold me something that was essentially one of those mexican wafer cookies disguised as a napoleon it was god awful. With cheap tasteless play doh-like frosting filling. The tiramisu is alright, not much flavor. I also got some beef stick thing that also wasnt very good (respectfully dont know what the girl behind the counter called it) . And the service is weird because they dont speak much english so its hard to be helped properly. The small market attached, Karavagh, is so interesting--you can spend a long time in there. Just browsing, I got hungry. We weren't looking for this place specifically, we were parked along the street waiting for our Nathan Hurd comedy special to start. My daughter was hungry and the wife needed to use the restroom. We did look them up on Yelp before entering and the items for sale looked very appealing so, they decided to take a look. What they didn't realize is that they were about to close so, they were only offering the baked goods in the case that were left. The only thing they bought were 2 plain croissants and 1 croissant with jalapeño and cheese. So based solely on these few items, the were some of the tastier ones we've had in quite some time. I went today before 1, it was nice looking. The Desserts looked good and beautiful. I was accompanied by my sister. And an Asian woman "helped" us. There really wasn't anyone around. She did answer our questions. She forgot some of my order. I spent about $26 there. And tipped them. When I ordered an ice coffee I said vanilla. She didn't bother to ask for cream. I assumed it would have came with it. The last thing that bothered my sister more. And I did witness it. We sat to eat. And the same woman who got my order. Asked a woman near us how her cookie was? And she didn't bother to ask our opinion, who was before her. She saw my sister after asking her and just walked away. You need to learn better customer service. Such a cute place! We used to live in Hollywood when I was growing up. Now my grandmother lives in Hollywood and I took her here with my sister for lunch. The place has a great little patio area outside. They have a amazing variety of pastries they all look so good and pretty makes you want to try them all! We ordered lentil soup, mushroom soup, and borsh everything was delicious! The potatoe and cherry varenuki were also very good! Pastry was so yummmy! The customer service really takes you back to Soviet countries where people are unhappy and don't even say hi when you enter. Not only that they are very rude when you ask to use the restroom before purchasing anything. you MUST order something first. Nice little place for coffee and pastries. They have some seating in their front patio around the palm tree at the entrance to the place, which is a nice way to relax. Service here was nice. Enjoyed my double Armenian coffee as well as their version of apple pie, which is a poundcake topped with apple slices and baked. Nice ligher version than the traditional apple pie. I have been coming here many times I really like the soup and peroshki here but Today I just had worst customer service from the cashier lady... unbelievably rude I ordered 2 potato perpshki and borsh soup so I paid and waiting, once the food comes out it was meat peroshki not potato, so decided to tell the cashier lady and she told me she can't give me my right order because I opened the both peroshki WTH and she was like well I can't give you another one because you already opened it??? I'm surprised to see that people have a bad experience in terms of customer service. I've been there couple of times and girls behind the register were always nice and friendly. I always ask about cakes(about cream,texture or if it has raisins that I hate) and they patiently answer my questions. Also they cut the slices exactly how I ask them. Their coffee is pretty good, not the best one I've had but still solid. Borscht is great! It's vegetarian but they can add meat and sour cream if you ask them. I would definitely suggest to give it a try, besides they make authentic delicious Russian cakes! read more

Super cool little spot in Hollywood. I needed to kill some time before my appointment and happened to see the sign, so I stopped in the discover the goods. They have a really nice pastry display case so I had an eclair and it was really good. Not too sweet or overly filled with cream. It was perfect and I loved the fact that it didn't fall apart when I ate it. Also, it wasn't cut in half like a sandwich, it was filled like a proper eclair. Nice job guys! I also had a cup of coffee which was amazing. I love coffee and I spend a lot of money on it so I appreciate a good cup and have to rave about it when I find it. They also serve expresso and stuff like that. They also sell sandwiches and the bread looks delicious! I need to come back for lunch one day. Parking is tight but worth the effort.
