My friend suggested meeting at Solar De Cahuenga and I was happy since I haven't been here in years! Located on Franklin Avenue between Cahuenga and Wilcox this restaurant is seen by all the go up and down Cahuenga Boulevard. But if you haven't been there or your gps isn't working/phone is off then you might miss it since there's no signage on the building or windows. There used to be yellow metal butterfly art on the Franklin Avenue side of the building but it's been gone for a while. We met after 6pm since Solar De Cahuenga is open until 10pm. There were quite a good amount of people in the outdoor patio and some people seated watching the FIFA game. Inside the place is nice and cool, actually plants growing, nice wooden chairs and a person is bussing/clearing and cleaning the tables. The tables are moveable if you have people joining you. Several outlets to plug in your electronics if you're working or looking things up. My friend and I met to plan a vacation so the outlets were helpful. You order at the register and there so many fun options: breakfast, lunch, dinner, pastries and delicious desserts. It was slow due to the soccer game. Most of everyone already ordered their food. They were just getting more drinks. Yes, Solar De Cahuenga serves coffee, teas and alcohol. So I was greeted by the cashier but with no eye contact...more of a "Do you know what you want?" I ordered an iced tea. She plied "An Iced tea, anything else?" I say yes the turkey chili. She replied again "Turkey chili, anything else?" That's when I repeated how she spoke i in her robotic tone "Anything else, anything else? No that is all." She actually perked up and became friendlier and explained that she was in the zone. I got my number on a stick, the iced tea and returned to my friend. We started up our computers and planned our trip. The cashier drop off the turkey chili and was friendly and conversational (I'm glad to let people know that it's ok to personable. It's working and visit a restaurant memorable). I stumbled upon this spot while walking through the streets on my way to the Hollywood Sign trail, and it turned out to be a great find. It's a charming cafe on its own of a busy intersection. I ordered their rosemary latte along with the Dos to Dos, which came plated as lemon ricotta pancakes with over-easy eggs and bacon. The pancakes were dolloped with a butter that hints of lemon zest and ricotta that really elevated the dish. Everything was perfectly seasoned and thoughtfully prepared. This place is a local hidden gem and the ambience is warm, bright as it's lined with windows, and has both an earthy and "homey" feel. The service is really kind -- I've had really great interactions with Roberto on multiple occasions. I've only tried the drinks here so far -- the coffee is really good. I had a hot Americano where I sat and did work for a while and watched outside the window. It was a really nice experience. Today I tried the iced Matcha with almond milk and I also got an iced latte with date syrup (first time trying that, & it added the perfect amount of sweetness!) the iced Matcha latte was already balanced and sweet enough for me without any additional sweetener -- I think because the almond milk probably already has sweetener in it. I'm not a huge fan of overly sweet drinks so these were perfect for me. They have a nice selection of pastries, and I have also tried their fresh made green juice, which is really great! I will come back to try the food one day. I really enjoy the patio here, there's even a fireplace outside which is cozy and I appreciate how the staff never makes you feel rushed to leave. Located very close to our favorite Airbnb, we stopped in to try breakfast here one morning and fell in love. We've been three times this week and had something different each time. A great breakfast brunch spot with lots of seating inside and out. It's self-seating and everyday we went it was busy. Service is nice and efficient. Food is delicious. I've been a regular at Solár de Cahuenga, but lately, it's been a huge letdown. The past few visits, we've waited 20-30 minutes with no urgency from staff, no apology, no effort to make us feel valued. By the time we ordered, they blamed the kitchen, yet our drink was ready in a minute. It felt disingenuous. The atmosphere was miserable everyone waiting in line looked frustrated with some patrons simply walking out. I'm genuinely disappointed in how customers are treated now. At this point, I wouldn't recommend it unless they fix the service. If they want to improve, one suggestion would be to consider separate lines, one for drinks, one for food. read more

I usually love this place and come often, but today's experience was really disappointing. I ordered my matcha with vanilla, and when I took my first sip, it was clear it wasn't added. I politely asked about it, and the barista responded with, "You have to pay extra for vanilla," in a tone that felt unnecessarily dismissive. I told her I did mention vanilla when I placed my order, and she rolled her eyes, asked me to remove the lid, and added it in. What bothered me even more was that she grabbed a stirrer straight out of the sink filled with water -- which didn't look clean or sanitary at all -- and used that to mix my drink. Unfortunately, this isn't the first unpleasant interaction I've had with this particular barista (the one with red hair). She consistently has the same rude, unfriendly demeanor, which is disappointing because the rest of the staff is always sweet, welcoming, and professional. I'm so obsessed with this place. I've been here twice! Both times were perfect. Summary: Great food. Delicious drinks. Amazing and kind wait staff. A real chill, lo-fi, quiet study and chat vibe. Solar de Cahuenga is a cute little restaurant right on the corner of Cahuenga and Franklin, and it looks like they've got a nice-sized outdoor seating area. Their parking lot is pretty teeny though - only a handful of spots, however, they do have at least one designated spot for pick-up and to-go orders! I've driven past here many times and finally decided to eat here with a new friend. My friend and I sat inside where it was cozy; she only had coffee and I had a Nutella + strawberry crepe, which was decent but not "WoW." I'd give the crepe a 3/5. I also ordered some food to go to take home to my BF: a breakfast burrito with some modifications and a Triple Threat smoothie. The smoothie was so refreshing and delicious! I had to stop myself from drinking my BF's entire smoothie!! I knew I should have ordered two smoothies! The second time I got food from Solar de Cahuenga, it was a major letdown!! Granted, ordering off of UberEats may have been a factor for the order being totally inedible. My BF keeps kosher, so when we ordered breakfast burritos, we specifically asked for NO meat, because he can't mix meat with dairy. The UberEats app doesn't have an option for "no meat," so my BF did the most logical thing and wrote in the notes, "NO meat." We then called Solar de Cahuenga to verify that the burritos would be made without meat, and the girl on the phone seemed a bit annoyed and impatient with my BF, but we were confident that the food would come with no meat. When the food arrived, we dove into our burritos with gusto, but then a look of horror spread across my BF's face as he realized that his burrito was full of bacon and cheese. Mine was too! My BF broke his ankle about two weeks ago; his appetite has been pretty poor, but he was finally hungry for the first time since the accident, and I was glad to see him looking forward to eating a nice meal, but unfortunately he couldn't eat even one bite. So disappointing. One would assume that a call to the restaurant to confirm our order would have been more than sufficient to ensure that our order would be made correctly; PLUS our meal cost like $80 for 2 breakfast burritos, 2 orange juices, and 2 iced cinnamon coffee drinks. I found this special little coffee shop unexpectedly while wandering down Cahuenga. It is a wholesome little shop with a good selection of coffee and fresh juices, that also makes a variety of good breakfast dishes. The interior is well organized with multiple little sections with slightly different feels, giving it a welcoming spirit where you can choose the spot which fits your mood the best at the moment. There are multiple entrances into the place in each one also feels different from the other, one coming from a back garden like feel, one coming in from the side with an almost art deco feel, then in front along Cahuenga there is an old style overhang with an outdoor seating area in front. It makes the place feel very spacious and interesting to explore. The place is very clean and cozy inside and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed my Pain Perdu (french toast) this morning, it all tasted very fresh. I am craving to come back and try their lemon Rico to pancakes - that sounds yummy. read more

Been a regular for years but just placed an order for delivery. Ordered bacon cooked medium. I'll admit there was a typo it said exactly "Cooked medium. Bot to crispy not to soft" to me it's still pretty obvious we wanted the bacon cooked medium. But it arrived burnt to a crisp no exaggeration. When I called to get a refund on the bacon the manager was rude claiming the typo was saying I wanted it burnt. I don't see it that way since the first two words were "cooked medium" anyone with half a brain would cook it medium and not burn it. He refused to give me a refund told me I could dive it back for an exchange. Given the prices of to eat out and delivery I expected at least a little courtesy and perhaps an admission of "yes I see cooked medium there must have been some confusion" something along those lines instead of an argumentative manager trying to claim "bot" is a word he can fall back on for giving me exactly the opposite of what I ordered. For the price and mediocre food I'd say you're better off going somewhere else, add in the rude customer service when handing a problem with an order it's safe to say I won't be back with my money. UPDATE! At no point did I throw a tantrum. I simply asked for a refund for bacon that wasn't cooked as he described as "medium but crispy" it was burnt to a crisp. Exchanging a dish involves me driving back an order I paid to have delivered. Fact I asked for medium not crispy, received burnt bacon crumbling in the box. So either you don't know what's going on in your kitchen or you're coloring the facts to fit your narrative. Fact "bot" is not a word, stop clinging to a typo as if it gave you instruction. I asked for medium and you bunt it. I have never had a restaurant argue with me a customer in the past or distort what happened in my life. It can take years to get a customer but seconds to lose one. Congratulations you lost more than one today read more

One of my favorite hidden gems in LA, I've been coming here for over 10 years (since I was in high school). If anything, the food and coffee has gotten better over time (highly recommend you try the ham & cheese empanadas or breakfast bowls). This weekend I had a friend in town who was staying in Hollywood. We needed a good cafe to catch up at and they suggested this little Hollywood treasure. I've been driving by this place for years so I was excited to finally try it! This place looks small from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to find an abundance of seating. You can either sit inside or on their patio. The patio is covered and kept us dry on this rainy day. The menu had so many options that I want to come back for. This is a great place to not only grab a coffee but also get a good light breakfast. The staff member working at the register was kind and helped us with any questions we had regarding the menu. I ended up getting a vegan latte that has been stuck on my mind for days now. It was that good. This place had a very relaxed vibe. I was able to catch up with my friend without feeling like we were rushed out. The only down side is the lack of parking in the area. But that's just how Hollywood is. I don't always enjoy going to Hollywood but this is a place I will be making the trip for again soon!! read more
