I'm surprised to see that people have a bad experience in terms of customer service. I've been there couple of times and girls behind the register were always nice and friendly. I always ask about cakes(about cream,texture or if it has raisins that I hate) and they patiently answer my questions. Also they cut the slices exactly how I ask them. Their coffee is pretty good, not the best one I've had but still solid. Borscht is great! It's vegetarian but they can add meat and sour cream if you ask them. Super cool little spot in Hollywood. I needed to kill some time before my appointment and happened to see the sign, so I stopped in the discover the goods. They have a really nice pastry display case so I had an eclair and it was really good. Not too sweet or overly filled with cream. It was perfect and I loved the fact that it didn't fall apart when I ate it. Also, it wasn't cut in half like a sandwich, it was filled like a proper eclair. Nice job guys! I also had a cup of coffee which was amazing. I love coffee and I spend a lot of money on it so I appreciate a good cup and have to rave about it when I find it. They also serve expresso and stuff like that. They also sell sandwiches and the bread looks delicious! I need to come back for lunch one day. Parking is tight but worth the effort. They also have a few tables outside in the patio and there's a bakery next door if you want to explore more options in this plaza. read more

We were driving through East Hollywood the other day and the attractive outdoor seating area caught our eye. We wanted to grab a sandwich, coffee and dessert. I took one cell phone picture on the way in. There were NO other customers in the store. That always scares me. We ordered the iced coffee and we were checking out the food display while we waited. Even though we were going to order several other items, we were literally scared out of the place by a mean lady! I tried to get a few pics of the desserts on display and this very uptight lady starts waving her arms all over the place saying "NO PICTURES, she doesn't allow it!!" I said "What? For Yelp and we are ordering more?" No, no, no.... and some other lady was in the background watching us. "She does not allow!!!" What the hell?? You think we want to steal your recipes and resell or something? Lol. Believe me we're too lazy. The iced coffee was way watered down and the food on display didn't look that appealing anyway, it looked old and it was the end of the day. I told her we will just leave then if you're going to be that rude and she just glared at us shaking her head everywhere. So, out we went. Won't be back. Threw the coffee away. I don't know what's going on here but I have been going to this place for the past 10 years and have had zero problems. I work close by and often go to this bakery and the adjacent meat market. It's mostly Russian and Armenian people but so what? Sometimes you have to explain things slowly because they don't speak English very well but whatever. This is a hidden gem by my work :) Love that I found a place to get a sweet treat and my coffee fix!! It is hidden and hard to find if you are driving in the area, but it's near the freeway entrance. This place feels like you're in an authentic Armenian/Russian bakery.. You may stand out here a bit if you're not Armenian, but the staff and people are friendly! It is in the center of Armenian town in Hollywood. I love how the bakery serves cheap treats for half of what you may pay for in a regular, traditional bakery! Lol.. I found this little neighborhood gem by accident & I'm in love. The first time in I had an amazing hot turkey & cheese croissant and a great latte. Today I ordered another tasty latte along with a ham & cheese crepe which was stuffed w ham and cheese. Also saw a couple customers with the Borsh. I have never tried it before and decided to order a bowl of traditional meat Borsh soup!! I'm am glad I did!!! My love for beets has just grown!!! & the bread that came with it was light & fluffy. Perfect for dipping! As far as costumer service I found everyone to be very lovely, kind, helpful & very pleasant... Aida & Ana are the two ladies that have helped both days. I have been this place several times and became sure that they dont sell all the time fresh cakes. Sometimes you are lucky and can get fresh, but mostly cakes are hard and seems to me they are old! Workers dont know how to cut cakes to get approx asked pounds. If you say I need half pound, they gave you one pound and they reply "I don't know how to cut to get half pound". I never asked them to cut it exactly but at least they have to know approx measurements as long as its their job. read more

Coffee was smooth and bitter. It complimented all their sweet pastries. The sweets were better than their savory like the ham and cheese croissant. It was too salty and lacking in cheese for my taste bud. The tiramisu though was fabulous. It was moist and drenched on the bottom with rum. The berry fruit tart wasn't as sweet as I expected it to be. There's plenty of indoor seating and outdoor seating. Note that many of the customers here smoke so we opted for the indoor. They do serve food like cafe sandwiches as well. They had these ice cream (not from America) that I do want to try. It's one of those packaged ones from the ice cooler. This is one of my favorite local gems! Its very unassuming from the outside and has great little courtyard patio outside with misters for hot summer days. The pastries and the food are all made fresh daily and some of the best I've ever had. They make traditional french pastries and cakes as well as Armenian/Eastern European foods. They have lots of boards up with the most popular dishes and the daily specials, but they have a menu as well, you can ask for it at the register. I don't get all of the negative reviews about customer service as I've had excellent customer service here, LA is an amazing place because we have so much diversity, understand that not all cultures are the same...just walk up to the counter and ask for what you want or ask a question, its not that complicated. After the owner rectified the situation, I've been going there 5 days a week, and the 2 Annas have been taking care of me, ever since. Now, 5 months passed @ spending $14-30 plus $10-15 tip (the 2 Annas), ever time (they're good girls) , but once again I was talked to by the owner and his wife, very ill manneredly; they really believe by I being there so much, they're doing me a favour. I had just started stopping in here a few times a week for coffee before the pandemic/shutdown. I returned last week and was pretty alarmed to see that no one working was wearing a mask or gloves. Thought it might be a fluke. Came back a couple days later and still - no one was wearing a mask or gloves. I was in line when a customer came up behind me, also w/o a mask, and legit had a coughing fit right there in line. Twice, actually. Seems like a small thing I guess, but these days it seems very careless to not follow the most basic protection measure for your customers and neighbors, or to require your customers do the same. The owner had a notice up about why people weren't wearing masks - something about how it would prevent the staff from safely down their jobs, so no one was wearing them? Left right then and there. Bummed b/c I thought this place was a cute find, and would have happily become a daily customer since it's so convenient to my office, but it's not worth the risk right now. I also uncovered some other very concerning reviews here about the owner of the restaurant, which then prompted my own research on some past incidents of racism. With all of that in mind, I'm sad to say I won't be returning. read more

The food from the menu is some of the best you'll find in LA. I mean that. Everything they do is excellent. You will not find a menu anywhere else in the city where everything on it tastes incredible. That being said, I have two complaints: 1) The menu changes daily for some reason and sometimes you will have a full one and the next only 4 items. It's very annoying when you go there and they don't have the kitchen open for the full meals. That being said, the sandwich and soup menu is always available and they, too, are first class. 2) The staff need to be trained on customer service. I come here often and it took me a while to realize that they are not being rude, it's just how they are. Almost all of the negative reviews are due to this reason. They are actually really nice but come across very cold at first. Once you get your food though...wow. read more
