Sadly I will never return. I was excited by the James Beard award in the 90's and the popularity. The waiter was arrogant and unhelpful and could not recoup. Out of our four meals, the only good one was the bison burger. The lamb chops were just okay, the stacked chicken enchiladas were bland and had to add tobacco sauce and the pork in the banana leaf was fine but not commensurate to the cost. Service is dreadful staff don't understand the food lack interest and are very opinionated. The food to be frank is dull lacks flavor and certainly lacks flair. Cafe Pasqual's served the best meal I have ever had in Santa Fe. Mango Gazpacho, Smoked Trout Rillette, Roasted Shishito Peppers, and a Bison Burger with bacon and green chile. Absolutely delicious. We had a reservation for 5:30pm, when it opens, so there was no wait and it was not too crowded or noisy. Service was cheerful and attentive. Truly memorable--a meal I will never forget. We tried to go here 3 times during our stay in Santa Fe. Pasquals didn't disappoint when we finally got in for breakfast. Note that they take reservations for dinner only and it's first come first served for breakfast and lunch. But they have a great notification system where they text and call when your table is ready. It took 30 mins for a table for 2 around 10am on a Saturday. Not too bad. I had a hot chai latte. It would have been much better cold as it wasn't frothy like you want any good hot latte. The food however was amazing. There were so many delicious options it was hard to choose. My husband had the breakfast burrito and I had the polenta, eggs over easy, plus a side of avocado. Both had their delicious chorizo and it was such an amazing combo of flavors and textures. Honestly, this place was so much better than The Shed. Highly recommend! read more

This place was PACKED and is recommended everywhere. It's also not cheap, so I expected it to be fantastic. Unfortunately, it really fell short in the food department. I will start by saying, the customer service at the front was great and I really appreciated the host seating me so quickly! I sat at the community table and had fun chatting with the folks at my table. Those were the positives! Now for the food. I ordered the $28 dollar mole enchiladas with chicken. What I got was two very bitter taco sized corn tortillas with completely plain, overcooked, white chicken breast chunks inside, covered in mole sauce. For $28. Maybe it's a Santa Fe thing, but never in my life have I had "enchiladas" where the filling wasn't cooked in the tortilla with the sauce. Maybe if the chicken had literally any amount of seasoning or fat, it would have been ok. I showed the server how dry it was and he just looked at me like....and? I decided to ask for more sauce but the chicken was just so tough, I barely ate anything. Super bummed. read more

This was our favorite food of the trip! It is very popular and the wait times are long though, so plan accordingly. We showed up for lunch on a Saturday around 1:30pm and the wait was an hour and a half, so we got the food to go instead and ate it while we did a wine tasting at Gruet Wine tasting room right nearby, which ended up being a phenomenal idea. The egg salad was probably the best I've ever had. We decided to go back for brunch on Sunday and were lucky to get spots at the communal table without waiting. I had the breakfast quesadilla which was so good. My friend had the avocado toast which she also loved. We will definitely be back on our next visit. Stopped in for a quick breakfast while we were visiting the Plaza. We had a little bit of a wait, but it wasn't too bad. Everyone at the place was very friendly. Coming from SOCal, I wasn't expecting sticker shock at the menu, but wow - I got it. Breakfast burrito for $26? Can of beer for $8? Anyway, all the plates we saw looked very good so we were excited to get seated and try it out. Each of us selected a different option and everything was good. Did the flavors match the premium prices? Not really. The seating arrangements are cozy as it's a small place. We sat at the booth, so we didn't have to worry about rubbing elbows with other patrons. We were however close enough to the community table where you can get seated quicker if you dont mind sitting with strangers. I was amazed at how quick people are to tell their life stories to people they've never met over a meal while making half hearted attempts to chew with their mouths closed. If you are in Santa Fe, this should be the first restaurant you go to! They open at 8 AM, serve breakfast, serve lunch, and take their last clients for lunch at 2:59 PM. Then they reopen for dinner at 5 PM. They only take reservations for dinner! We got the tacos and the Huevos Barbacoa - both were great but the tacos WERE AMAZING! I felt like the corn tortillas tasted homemade, the pork was phenomenal and the sauce was divine! The tacos were honestly my favorite part of the entire city of Santa Fe - I am not a local, so I do not know for a fact this is the best restaurant in the city, but I have not eaten at a restaurant this good in years. I would give the tacos six out of five stars if I could and I have lived in the southwest so I know what good tacos are. Friendly service when we stopped to chat at the end of our meal but they seemed overwhelmed with all the tourists in town for the hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque. If you like street tacos you've got to try the Pibil! I had a variation of this dish here about 7 years ago and it is still equally inspiring. The presentation is an experience with unwrapping the banana leaves to find your juicy pork, and I love how you can build your tacos with whatever variations of veggies, rice, sour cream, and pork you prefer. Very disappointed with the food. My husband and I both ordered the chile relleno scrambled eggs breakfast. The presentation was not appetizing, eggs were cooked hard even though I had asked them soft scrambled, there was only about an inch of green to the chile relleno, the black bean were bland and the 1 corn tortilla was cold and hard. The food is a bit pricier here for the portion (chicken sandwich was $19), but you can taste the quality. One thing I'll note is that the tables are incredibly close to one another. It was super hard to squeeze in our group of 5 while having our backs immediately facing other tables. I felt like we were packed in like sardines! Just an FYI. My wife suggested we try this place after she saw it featured on "Best Thing I Ever Ate" This place was CROWDED. Very long wait. My thought was how good could this really be... It did not disappoint! Due to covid, we decided to get takeout and eat in our car that was parked nearby. Had to get the Huevos Barbacoa as that was the dish featured on the show. I really don't have words for how great this was. You got the eggs cooked perfectly, the barbacoa on the bottom along with all the onions, cilantro and the highlight for me, the green chilies. Way too expensive for what you get. Also, very loud and crowded--not worth the wait at all. They claim to have vegan options but that is extremely misleading and disappointing. You can just order some of the dishes without meat or cheese. A total joke--menu says ask server for vegan options and when you do they say that you could order a salad or enchiladas without cheese or meat. Paid close to $70 for lunch for 2 --- no dessert or appetizers. It took forever for a waiter to take our order. The rice and beans were good as well as the chicken sandwich. We ate here three times over the five days we were in Santa Fe (dinner and two breakfasts). We've been coming here for 30 years. My favorite breakfast item has been downsized. Griddled Polenta with chorizo and red sauce. The size of the polenta is 2/3rd less than the last time I was there. Here's a photo of how it used to be. The polenta was substantial. Now it's tiny. Next morning I wanted to order the Chorizo Scramble but turns out it's eggless. The title is misleading. It's not a scramble. Why not offer eggs as an option? A traditional chorizo con huevos.
