Passing through town, and found this place with a little searching of well-rated locations. We were not at all disappointed, once we realized the "REGIS GROCER" was, in fact, the cafe. FOOD: We came in about 20 minutes between afternoon close, though there were still other groups dining and chatting. Didn't affect the servings at all -- a great half-sandwich, eggs and hash browns, a smothered burrito, and a breakfast burrito. I had the latter -- ordered with chili Verde which was put inside -- and it was quite tasty, if a bit more black bean forward than I was expecting. Iced tea was quite good, too. Overall, ingredients were fresh and healthy. SERVICE: Despite the time, the service was friendly, helpful, and even above and beyond (as we showed an interest in some of the history of the building on display, one worker brought out a basket of old bills and documents and so forth -- fun!). AMBIANCE: Cute, nostalgic, cozy, without being cloying. Clean and pleasantly appointed. NET-NET: A big win, better than stopping someplace for fast food or a burger. Definitely marked as a place to visit again. read more

Great food in an old grocery store. We stop here for breakfast frequently on the drive between Cody and Absarokee. Service is fast and the food is reliably good. If you're coming from Absarokee take Airport Rd to avoid downtown Red Lodge during tourist season (unless you're a tourist ). read more

There's nothing "grocery" about this spot. Ignore the second half of the name over the door. It's all cafe. And what a spot it is. From the wood floors, big windows, garden seating -- complete with wild turkeys on patrol -- chalkboard of daily specials, Cafe Regis doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a family friendly stop with interesting twists in classic menu items. A few things on the menu looked interesting, but the French Scramble was calling my attention for some reason with its green onions, dill and cream cheese mix. It was tasty and served with the fruit salad, a nicely balanced choice to get the day started without needing a nap first. My only "ding" was getting charged for coffee when I didn't have any. I think the waitstaff is so used to having customers order a meal with a beverage they automatically add it to the bill without thinking. It was a nearly three dollar extra, but I didn't press it because it was otherwise a good experience, and, Christmas Eve didn't seem like an appropriate time to forego the "goodwill to all" theme. I look forward to trying this place out again, though. read more

Came here for breakfast on a Friday, 6/23/23! After we finished, we promptly recommended to our extended family staying in town. Kids had corn cakes + choc chips and powdered sugar. I found myself eating both their leftovers bc it was a generous portion and tasty. Both kids loved their sides of maple sausage and bacon, respectively. My husband and I both had the "heaping bowl". (Husband added two eggs) Yum!! Fresh and healthy veggies. Lots of hot sauces to try on table) Came with delicious sourdough (my choice) and a (toasted) fruit bread (banana!) for my husband. I wrote a review on trip adviser that although we like the food and the ambience of this restaurant our orders got very mixed up. I received a polite reply from the owner who assumed the waitress that got our order messed up was a special needs gal who works there. To the owner: It was not her. She was waiting on a different table. So please do not assume that we would not have understood if it was her as we had a special needs person with us that accompanied us that day. Extremely rude waiter and waitress. We walked out after being treated like crap. First gal asks us if we wanted to share a table with another group. I'm sorry but I don't feel like sitting with strangers at a table is what we had in mind. There were two tables that just go up and clearly could sit us. Then there was another group of three behind us. A guy walks up and says first come first serve and was about to seat us at a smaller high top. He sees the people behind us as sees the high stop was setup for three. Then asks me to wait 15 min for another table as he would like to sit the high top. Like seriously you won't sit two people at a small corner high top? What a joke and to toy with us multiple times was just rude. Makes no sense, you will sit a 4 top at your 8 top table, but refused to sit us two at small three top table. read more

One of my all time favorite spots to eat in Montana! This cute little diner is somewhat hard to find, as it's tucked away in a neighborhood off the main drag but it's worth searching. The menu offers a lot of different options, all delicious, and includes a number of vegetarian options. The breakfast here is hard to beat and the collection of hot sauces makes the meal complete. Service is always good, despite the fact that it's usually a full house. I've always appreciated the small town charm and feel here. Definitely a cute, cozy spot to brunch. read more

If I could, I'd give this place 6 stars. Wow! The hidden gem of red lodge, literally! It's tucked away off main street. It's a small cafe with a huge out door patio and yard. They have two green houses so everything is fresh and right from their garden. They are so friendly, and very welcoming. They are also very accommodating, we brought our dog so they put us on the patio and brought our dog water when they brought out our drinks! Cindy was our lovely waitress, she brought our dog treats and took really great care of us. If it's nice weather this is the place to be!!! We ordered the egg scramble with crumpets(Big fan of the crumpets) and the pork chili verde burrito is a must have. read more

Our Bay Area friends that grew up in Bozeman told us they always stop at Cafe Regis for breakfast any time they're in Red Lodge. I'm so glad they told us about this little local gem, as we never would have found it on our own. Cafe Rouge is a little off the beaten path, 2 blocks from Main Street, in a quiet residential neighborhood. Street parking was free and plentiful. The dining space is dated but comfortable. There's a single step at the entrance, but there's also a fully accessible side door that was open when we arrived, and easy to reach from the garden. Speaking of which, the restaurant is on a fairly large plot of land, with a large well manicured lawn, including table-service-dining on the patio and on the lawn, as well as a pair of well kept greenhouses at the back growing seasonal veggies. We found assorted lettuces and garden fresh tomatoes growing that should be ripe by the end of July. The big outdoor area was perfect for the kids to run around and explore. We appreciated being able to let them blow off steam while we finished our coffees before piling back into the car on our way to the Beartooth Highway. We received warm and welcoming service from the staff. They were friendly towards travelers but also clearly had a loyal following of local regulars. Our coffee cups were never empty, and the staff seemed to be enjoying themselves. The chef clearly took pride in serving and showcasing local and organic ingredients. When he switched the special from Strawberry Rhubarb French-toast to Caramelized banana, he made one of the guests' day, and his joy was visible. The food was fresh, creative, and prepared perfectly. The kids got kid-sized corn-cakes for less than $2, and they even indulged our request for apples AND blueberries inside. Our eggs were organic, free-range, and cooked perfectly. Most of the breakfasts come with a choice of: toast, crumpet (like a homemade whole wheat English muffin), or a slice of fruit bread (tasted like banana bread with carrots and other goodies baked inside). I accidentally received rye-bread instead of fruit bread, but they were quick to bring a replacement, and I didn't let any of that buttery rye toast go to waste (although it may go to my waist). I loved that they offered a dozen different kinds of hot-sauce to accompany our meal. It was fun comparing old favorites with others we'd never seen before, including a garlicky option from Gilroy, not far from our home. Go figure, we had to come all the way to Red Lodge to discover it. We enjoyed a pretty perfect breakfast at Cafe Regis, and would definitely come back again. read more

What a cute place - the cafe sits in an old market, vintage signage included. If it's nice out, I definitely recommend sitting outside and checking out their garden...they even let your four legged friends sit with you during your meal. Service was great, all the staff was nice, friendly, and made you feel like you were a guest in their home. Food was great, definitely recommend the breakfast hash brown and veggie bowl with their homemade tahini sour cream sauce. The fruit bread is a great side and is made on site. A lot of their specials include items picked fresh from their garden, which is great! Definitely worth the trip while in Red Lodge. read more
