Cafe Reyes used to be a regular stop whenever I was in the area. My husband and I went tonight and while the food is still awesome the service was unforgivable. We arrived and the outside tables were full, no matter. We were hungry and inside had several spots available. It wasn't busy but the pace of the service was so weird and slow. Even the perfunctory check ins at our table during dinner was like a drive by. She barely waited for us to finish an answer before taking off. Again not busy at all. We've both worked in restaurants before and are very forgiving when it comes to service. I realize it's a pizza place but we found our server borderline rude. My hiking group hit this place up on the way into town after our hike at Point Reyes. They were actually closing in just a few minutes so the waiter and I think he might've been the owner too. It was a beautiful day out and they have great outdoor seating but there was a wait vs being seated right away inside. The herb bread had these thinly sliced pieces of garlic on it that paired well with the rest of the bread. The salad was nice and crisp with a delicious herb dressing. This restaurant might rival my favorite pizza spot in the greater Bay Area! First, we were fortunate to arrive right at the restaurant's opening at 5, by happenstance, because there was a long line of people waiting to get in and a subsequently long waitlist! Unfortunately, we were the first people to get cut-off from being seated inside, so we chose to sit outside in the cold; they don't have heaters, but they did give out blankets which was a pleasant surprise. As for food, we ordered two Pale Ales and shared the Miwok pizza with added Italian sausage (no photos to share since the patio got dark and it doesn't do it justice!). The crust was delicious! The edges were thick, it was crisp on the bottom and soft / fluffy on the inside. The salami had a great flavor, and a bit of a kick, and they didn't skimp on the added sausage! I loved the garlic and Kalamata olives on top as well. I feel like I don't often see Kalamata olives on pizza, but I loved the bold, tangy flavor in contrast with the cheese and tomato sauce. They easily accommodated my boyfriend's request for no cheese on half the pizza, and the food was out quickly despite the large dinner crowd. When asked about the mix of the salad, she didn't know and said "various lettuces and some purple stuff" Not very helpful but we ordered it anyway. Restrooms: this was definitely the worst part. For a relatively large restaurant (with the outdoor seating), there is only one toilet which is really not enough. Stood in line behind two people and then upon exiting, there were three more people waiting. Needs a serious upgrade here. Drinks: this restaurant is almost like a European place. No ice served unless requested and even the Coke is served warm. Not only that, but the ice is the tiny crushed ice style, which is great, but melts SO fast. So when you're adding to a warm beverage (water, Coke, etc), the ice disappears immediately. Bottom line: Would I come here again? Yes, absolutely. But only for a To Go order. Side note: We ate outside, as it was an awesome day. After we sat down, we were informed/alerted about yellow jackets. We did see a few of them but we didn't have a big issue. After hiking nearby and walking around Point Reyes Station, my friends and I stumbled upon Cafe Reyes for lunch. It was a beautiful sunny day, so naturally, the outdoor seating area, which reminded me of Wine Country with the picnic tables and umbrellas, was full. Luckily, they were able to split our party of 10 into two tables inside with no wait and separate checks (and therefore, avoiding a possible mandatory gratuity fee for a larger party). The organic tossed greens were crisp and fresh, and I really liked their herb dressing. I would have no problem eating salad every day if it tasted like this one! The thin crust wood fired pizzas were light and tasty. The Farallon with pepperoni and mushrooms was fragrant. Despite being a vegetarian pizza, the Bolinas with arugula and mushrooms had the same price as the other pizzas containing meat. I do wish that the crust was a tad chewier, especially because these are considered Neopolitan pizzas made with 00 flour, and that there was chili oil on the side. But overall, I was happy with this meal, and I think Cafe Reyes is one of the better restaurants in this cute little town! read more

A cozy spot for lunch and dinner in Point Reyes Station. Fast, friendly service and delicious pizza are to pros. A pie feeds one person if hungry, two if just peckish. The Fogcutter double IPA tastes more like a Weizenbock, so stick to wine or lighter beers if you're an IPA person. Make sure to check their hours as they take a break between lunch and dinner, and aren't open at all Mon, Tues, and Weds. On days when they are open, they fill up fast, so get there early. We came on a busy Sunday afternoon after a gorgeous morning out hiking Pojnt Reyes. Cafe Reyes is located conveniently in the heart of Point Reyes Station, near the gas station. We were seated almost immediately and were served fairly quickly. We ordered the Margherita pizza with prosciutto and the Tule pizza with Italian sausage. Both were SO tasty. The Margherita was dolloped with fresh mozzarella and the Italian sausage on the other pizza had a nice kick to it. It is a lot of food, so we took home almost half of each pizza. One thing to know Is that there is only one single occupancy bathroom for the restaurant, so the bathroom line can't be quite long (especially when everyone is coming here after a long day out hiking). read more

So good that.... I got it twice. The pizza is naturally leavened, and 100% 00 caputo flour. They use local ingredients (the star of which has to be the amazing cheese from this region). The crust was perfection - light, airy, foldable, perfect. And the cheese pull was 10/10. Cool ambiance with a black and white James Bond Film (Cary Grant), candle lit tables and a roaring pizza oven. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, the team here was really great with me and my dad. Farallon (3.5/5): the visual of the pizza was quite enticing but I was so disappointed with the dough. It was so floppy/SOGGY that once you lifted the slice up, it would immediately drop all the toppings. The flavors were good and I could taste the freshness of the ingredients but it didn't live up to my expectations. I ended up eating the toppings instead of the crust, it wasn't worth going back and forth scooping the ingredients back onto the crust just to flop down. The pizza was $20, I rather spend that much at Station House Cafe. Overall, wanted to try this place for the first time after hearing the hype but it is not worth the hype at all. Our experience here was quite mixed. As a parent coming here with two kids, I was thrilled when the announced 25-minute wait turned out to be only 7 minutes. However, once we were in, things went downhill. The waiter wasn't very eager to explain the menu, even though we had few and precise questions about the vegetarian options. I waited with 2 hungry kids for 50 minutes while people who had come after us ordered and got served. The Diet Coke I had ordered at the beginning was forgotten, and I had to remind them after we got the salad. As some reviewers have noted, the server was very kind only when the time came to pay the bill. I'm not sure I understand why some reviewers have such high opinions about the pizza. It was just about alright as far as regular wood-fired oven pizza goes. Not terrible, but not exceptional, and the service left a lot to be desired. After a day of renting the local kayaks, Cafe Reyes was on my list of places to go! The place is beautiful! Great outdoor area , shaded and beautiful indoor area. A couple of tv screens hang above the bar and on the side wall so you can watch sports (what was playing ). Cafe Reyes does have a legit pizza oven inside- you can watch them put the pizza's in. The neighboring shop's cute small dog wobbled near, lying at the entrance. We had ordered two pizzas: Tule & Palomarin. Practically identical with the exception of one with Boauerones and the other sausage. It would have been nice if they weren't so similar save one ingredient. There wasn't enough difference to make you order one vs the other - practically the same pizza aside the solo ingredient. Would've appreciated a little more uniqueness. Wood fire char hung on the crust. Delicious. Very hot and fresh. Didn't taste enough oomph. It was missing something. I don't want to say it was that bland, but nothing stood out too much. The mozzarella was semi- melted, still in little chunks. We had ordered wine, which was delicious. And hog oysters were great, tho it lacked a lot of the natural juices inside. Very meaty. The service was fantastic . Owners and waiters were what I'd come back for. The ambiance was great. All in all a great place to try in Point Reyes. Glad I tried it! And such a beautiful place! I stopped by Cafe Reyes on a Saturday evening after a long day of hiking around 5:00 p.m. Getting a seat outdoors was about a 30 minute wait because the weather was so nice, but an indoor table had no wait, so I opted to sit inside. When my friends and I received the menus, we were sticker shocked: how is food so cheap in the Bay Area? I am unsure how they are pricing their wood-fired pizzas around $15 a pie when other places are charging anywhere from $20 - $30 for the same product. Two pizzas ended up being the perfect amount of food for a party of four. My only criticism around the pizza is 1) that the dough is over-proofed, which leads to the crust being more dense and 2) one side of the pizza is noticeably more burnt than the other side because the pizza did not get rotated in the wood-fire oven. Other than these two minor criticism, you really can't go wrong stopping by Cafe Reyes for a casual, quick bite. Just be prepared for a potentially long wait if you stop by on a long weekend when the weather is exceptionally nice out. read more

This review is a bit overdue but what a fantastic place. I stopped here on a whim on the way back to San Francisco with my wife and daughter and we were so happy that we did. The servers were so attentive and kind. They treated my 2 1/2 year old as if she were the most important person in the restaurant. They brought her a "make your own pizza" set up and even baked it in the oven after she made it. She really enjoyed it and we all enjoyed eating some of the pizza she made. As for the food, it was all delicious. We got 2 pizzas and a dozen oysters and it was all fresh and delicious. The place is comfortable and not pretentious, which was perfect for a family that had been out exploring all day. On the way out, we complimented the staff and raved about our experience. Someone who may have been the owner or a manager brought my daughter over and gave her a Cafe Reyes hat. She really got a kick out of that. 100% recommend this place. It was about 10 of us, naturally they didn't have a table available without a reservation and couldn't split tables for us either, so we were seated outside. There are no heating lamps outside but they provide blankets. I felt the service was a bit hostile from everyone the hostess, waitress and manager. First the hostess was telling us we couldn't sit at the outside table we picked, we could only sit at the table closest to door. Then it was confirmed it was fine. Then we asked for warm water and they said the restaurant doesn't have hot water which another person later corrected and brought the waters. Then we were told they were out of sausage, one person wanted a pizza that apparently had sausage on it and the waitress aggressively said I just told you we don't have sausage, rather than just confirming he's fine with the rest of the ingredients. Then we were seated inside at tables right next to each other but couldn't combine them because apparently it was hazardous. Server was only super nice when giving us the bill. As for the food, we weren't really impressed, we were just hungry. We all ordered a pizza, each. The fact that it was wood fire was a plus. Price is decent for dinner also read more

TL;DR: tasty pizzas and oysters but don't even think about coming here after a hike or exercise Although the feeling has been building for months, it was at Cafe Reyes that I finally realized that the foodie obsession with "authentic" Italian food has exceeded all reasonable bounds on sense. In my photo, you see a small pizza, with nice dough, an anemic smear of tomato sauce and cheese, topped with mere morsels of meat and fish--not too many, because the thin Neapolitan dough has little structural soundness--there's approximately zero vegetables, and it costs about $25. What?! Scrolling through some reviews, I see that many people are dropping in after long hikes and kayaks, as I did, and as one would expect at Point Reyes. This seems regrettable: after rigorous exercise, the body is not satiated with carbohydrates and fats, but demands protein, which this restaurant serves extraordinarily little of. You would consume both more meat and--perhaps shockingly--more vegetables by eating a burger from In 'n' Out. This is not the fault of the restaurant per se, but rather the tastes of the market in demanding this style of food, which to be clear is inauthentic: after stepping off at Ellis Island, Italian immigrants in 19th century America did not insist on eating bread and cheese and little morsels of meat and fish once they could afford to eat otherwise. Similarly, when Americans brought pizza back from Naples, they too did not pretend to be satiated by cheese and morsels on bread. The oysters here are good though. read more
