TL;DR: tasty pizzas and oysters but don't even think about coming here after a hike or exercise Although the feeling has been building for months, it was at Cafe Reyes that I finally realized that the foodie obsession with "authentic" Italian food has exceeded all reasonable bounds on sense. In my photo, you see a small pizza, with nice dough, an anemic smear of tomato sauce and cheese, topped with mere morsels of meat and fish--not too many, because the thin Neapolitan dough has little structural soundness--there's approximately zero vegetables, and it costs about $25. What?! Scrolling through some reviews, I see that many people are dropping in after long hikes and kayaks, as I did, and as one would expect at Point Reyes. This seems regrettable: after rigorous exercise, the body is not satiated with carbohydrates and fats, but demands protein, which this restaurant serves extraordinarily little of. You would consume both more meat and--perhaps shockingly--more vegetables by eating a burger from In 'n' Out. This is not the fault of the restaurant per se, but rather the tastes of the market in demanding this style of food, which to be clear is inauthentic: after stepping off at Ellis Island, Italian immigrants in 19th century America did not insist on eating bread and cheese and little morsels of meat and fish once they could afford to eat otherwise. Similarly, when Americans brought pizza back from Naples, they too did not pretend to be satiated by cheese and morsels on bread. The oysters here are good though. read more

Once we were checked in it wasn't a long wait and we were seated inside. The owner knew many of the regulars and stopped at most tables to say hello. I only knock off one star because I wish they put as much thought into the intricacy and variety of their non-pizza options. The one green salad is dominated by blue cheese (albeit local) so if you're not in a carb mood, your options are limited and less imaginative. Came here on a Sunday evening after spending the day at the beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore. Located on highway one, in a little town is this gem with reasonably priced pizza and drinks! (also raw oysters if that's you) Got a beer for $6, tomatoes with fresh mozzarella (seemed like they were roma tomatoes, was expecting something like an heirloom tomato), and two pizzas: Miwok and Palomarin. Heard a lot of people ordering after us ordering the same as well. The pizzas were very different. They both had the same sauce and pizza, but the Palomarin's pizza crust was wayyyy thinner and slightly undercooked. Had to drag each slice onto the place and cut/eat with a fork and knife. the Miwok pizza was great! the pizza wasn't as thin and was able to hold the sauce and cheese better. We stopped by after a day trip to Point Reyes' North beach craving some oysters! There was a little less than an hour-long wait but there's a big lawn with badminton, corn hole, and some other games to keep you entertained. We loved the patio that was dog-friendly so our dog could hang out with us too! We got some beers at the bar and got to hang out before we were called. The host/possibly owner was really friendly and got us seated pretty quickly for a busy Saturday! Food-wise, the two pizzas we had were amazing! You could taste the pizza oven crust and the quality ingredients. The oysters were as fresh as they come from the area and well worth the price. The center of things is where it all falls apart. the thin strip of dough was hardly the fully cooked crust I expected. instead it was a soggy thin piece of doughy stuff that couldn't support the filling above, was difficult to cut well - an all round disaster. We came here crazy hungry after the lighthouse. The service was attentive and we were able to sit right away. There's just no substitute for brick oven pizza! They have many options including vegetarian. They had a good source of cream soda if you needed a treat. Prices aren't astronomical which is awesome! Around 15 bucks a pizza place any additional toppings. The downside is there's one bathroom/toilet so when we wanted to use the bathroom before we left it was about a 20 minute wait. We were served our oysters, GF pizza and wine surprisingly fast. Sadly, our pizza arrived cold. We asked Christina (or was it Crystal?) if we could put the pizza back in the wood burning oven for a few minutes. It would be great to see the blue cheese replaced by Parmesan cheese (or another type). There is a decent selection of vegetarian options, but no vegan ones I believe (cheeseless pizza exists on the menu, but I'm not sure the dough is vegan). I would have gotten a coffee, but the only milk is whole milk. Please consider at least one dairy free milk option. There are SO many to choose from, and going plant-based lowers our water footprint. But yesterday while visiting Point Reyes Seashore, my partner was wanting to try oysters. Omg! I remembered their "fresh oyster" sign and we headed back into town. This was our first time having oysters and wow, they were so good (and fresh). We also tried their salad for two and ordered the Inverness pizza. WOW. Both were so good.
