Unfortunately the night of 11/07/2025 the customer service was less than sub par. They were rude, talking crap about customers while ordering, rolling eyes while customers ordering or asked to get change for peers. Not to mention the establishment closes at 11:00pm and were ready to closed before 10:00pm when we entered. No more ice, limited meats (pork & shredded steak), no queso, etc. Unfortunately no one had name tags on so I can not report who directly exhibited poor customer service. Love Cafe Rio food but the carry out situation needs to be fixed. Placed a carry out order at 5:00 and requested a 5:30 pick up time. Paid ahead of time so there was no chance that they would get stuck if they made the food before I arrived. Arrived at the location at 5:32 and my order was not even started. There were two people going through the inside ordering line so I thought as soon as they were served, my order would be made up. I was wrong .......five more people entered the store and all five of them received their orders before mine was even started. I stood there waiting. I walked out of the store at 5:45 with my online order. 1. Why wasn't the order ready to go at 5:30 when I gave a half hour lead time to allow it to be. 2. Why wasn't my order placed through the line when there was a gap? 3. Why would you serve five more people before filling the online order while I was standing there. I am really struggling to write this review because I am a huge fan of Cafe Rio and I have been since the second location opened up in Provo Utah over 20 years ago. I have eaten at Cafe at least once a week over that time sometimes twice a week or even twice in one day. I was obsessed! Ever since the new menu items were rolled out, the old menu items have tasted slightly different - and not in a good way. They also have apparently stopped giving guacamole with the vegetarian meals. My biggest issue personally is that they no longer put cheese on the tortilla before making your salad - I'm not sure why, but this makes a huge difference for the dish To go orders are almost always wrong. Make sure you go inside if you want your food to be right. I would pay double the prices just to have the food made the way it used to be made. I wrote a very kind and thought-out private letter to management several months back when I noticed these issues and when I saw the ratings start to drop - I never heard a word back from them so now I'm leaving a public review. Please, Cafe Rio, get your act together! We need you here in Mesquite! read more

If I could give -10 I would. Place is a mess. Went up to the serving counter the rice was almost empty ( much like the dining area) and the rice had burnt crusty rice in the pan. I asked nicely if she could change the rice because it looked old and it was burnt The girl with the fish hooks in her lips And Burgundy hair walked away with an irritated look, went and got fresh rice, clearly annoyed she had to do her job, brought it back, swapped the pans then proceeded to purposely scrape all the burnt rice out of the old pan while looking at me right in the face then she took the spoon and stirred it altogether and looked at me like now what are you gonna do and then turned to her coworker, and they both started to smile with sarcasm. So I told them to enjoy the rice and we walked out and we will never be back. We are locals that live here permanently and I hope they can keep their business while the snowbirds leave when they treat their local permanent people like she did. The woman who appeared to be the manager was gossiping while I waited to be served. The food was cold, old, and had a terrible taste. I ordered cilantro and vegetables, and none were added. The sauces were left with the lid open, and they spilled in my car. When I paid, no one gave me my receipt or my food, and I had to wait for someone to stop using their cell phone so I could get my food. It's the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I've been a long time customer of Cafe Rio... probably 15+ years or so. In Vegas, I've always been satisfied with both food and customer service. I will NEVER give another dollar to any Cafe Rio after our experience today in Mesquite. It was busy. Very busy. So at 12:30p after standing in line, I opened my Cafe Rio app and placed my order. It said our order would be ready by 12:50. Since we were already inside, I stood by the register waiting for our food. At 12:50, I notice that nobody was preparing our food, so I ask the cashier if our food will be ready soon. He points to a lady by the griddle and says the manager is putting our order together. 10 minutes later, I notice that the manager isn't putting our order together... she's helping the customers in line. Now I'm annoyed. I ask when she'll finish our order, and the manager points to the people in line and says she has to serve them first. Wait... what?! It's 1:00 pm at this point and she's not going to help us until the line dies down? We're getting penalized for ordering online and paying in advance?! The kicker was when the manager started yelling at me. Lol. She never came over to me to discuss or calm me down. From across the kitchen, in front of other customers, she's yelling at me telling me to wait while she helps the folks in line. Even though our food looked like it would be ready soon, I wasn't about to give a dime to this business. I asked for a refund. Our friends were so disgusted by the customer service we received that she gave our boys her lunch. How do you trust this restaurant with a manager who lacks the ability to manage her emotions or temper?? An eye to eye apology would've gone a long way. A little bit of effort showing that she was working our our order would've gone a long way. Sorry Cafe Rio. You should slow down on expansion and re-focus on customer service training. read more

I would normally leave a crappy review for having to wait 30 minutes past my online pickup time. However, the long wait was due to a severe understaffing issue, not the fault of the workers. This appears to be a Mesquite, Nevada problem with most of the fast food places sharing the same staffing issues. I am giving 5 stars because the food was absolutely delicious and properly prepared. The Birria tacos, vegetarian burrito, and Sweet Pork Barbacoa enchiladas were simply awesome! The staff was trying their very best to do a good job, but it was very apparent that they were all being overwhelmed! Regardless, they all remained cheerful and showed great pride in their restaurant. We will be back, even if it means a long wait again! read more

I had such a lovely day and I almost made it through the whole thing without having to absolutely light up a company's yelp page, but cafe rio mesquite came in for the buzzer beater. Got a bowl and a 14 dollar salad. Bowl was fine I guess. 14 dollar salad, was smaller than a tostada. Comically small. Smaller than a kids meal. Genuinely unbelievable and ruined the entire year of 2025 for me. Also 4 lime slices in each plate? Clearly not enough!!! Should just put in the whole lime at that point! All the workers were rude and multiple on their phones near areas with food. Disgusting. All trash bins were overflowing. This place needs to be shut down immediately. New to Mesquite and trying to check out the local restaurants. Decided to do takeout from Cafe Rio. Great experience. Staff greeted me immediately. I was a few minutes early, so food was being prepared. They added extra cheese as requested on the tacos. My beef fajita bowl was outstanding. I can put away some food at dinner and could not finish it. There was an abundance of meat. Taste was terrific. Ingredients were fresh. My wife's chicken tacos were also loaded with chicken and very tasty. Pleenty of rice on the side. Overall, a grand slam. Great service, great food, great potions and great taste. Cage Rio--welcome to Mesquite! It is so nice to have a healthy meal option for those of us driving through town. Also, it's wonderful to have access to a Cafe Rio that doesn't have a long wait. I've waited over 30 minutes in line at the St. George store; your Mesquite employees took my order almost immediately, were very nice, and conscientious. What a change from my normal experience! I love Café Rio! It is my usual haunt because there are so few restaurants that offer healthy fast food. All their ingredients are fresh and made immediately right before your eyes. I always get the salad with just beans (no rice), lettuce, pico de gallo, and creamy cilantro dressing. I have them put the 440 calorie tortilla on the side (so I can make quesadilla quarters for a snack or dinner side dish later in the week) making the total salad calorie count less than 400 calories. I can often get 2 meals out of the salad. Don't be afraid to ask for more of each ingredient. I ask for them to put in 2 scoops of black beans (I'm mostly vegetarian) and as much lettuce and pico as they can fit. They always generously oblige. Even after a long workout (I'm a long course triathlete so a 75 mile ride or half marathon training session aren't uncommon), the salad is filling. There is nowhere else I've found a salad that completely fills me (though Cheesecake Factory and CPK come close). There are several perks for regulars. Download their app and scan it at the register to earn $10 off every $100 spent. They also announce special offers on the app--like double-point days. Another perk relates to the receipt. Most receipts ask if you'd like to complete an online survey. The survey takes about 5 minutes. Once done, you receive a numerical code allowing you to get free chips and salsa or a free dessert. You do not have to combine these freebies with an order. Sometimes, I stop by my neighborhood Cafe Rio just to pick up a snack of free chips. If you're driving along I-15 and hunkering for healthy food, go to THIS Cafe Rio. In 45 minutes, you'll hit the St. George store that is obnoxiously slow. read more

Lucky for Cafe Rio, in order to leave a review, at least one star has to be selected. Without a doubt, the slowest service you will ever encounter. If you've stuck it out long enough to actually place an order, most of the meat options are not available so you're at the mercy of whatever is left. The lack of food options and slow service is nothing compared to the super rude and inept employees. The icing on the cake was when an employee was walking to the bathroom and cursed out loud in front of our family when he saw the messy floor which looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day. Entered the restaurant to find two employees sitting at a customer table. The female of the two was coughing and wiping her face on her arm. As we were ordering she returned to the food preparation area and was still coughing. We hesitantly ordered, I advised the server I was hard of hearing and asked him to speak louder and look at make when speaking. He did not, so I repeated my order two more times. He walked to his manager and said I was rude and he would not serve me. Typical soy boy Gen Z, can not look someone in the eye. The food here is very overpriced based on portion size anyway. We recently moved to town and had never tried Cafe Rio. We decided to give it a go. The food was convenient, flavorful and the price was reasonable. We returned on multiple occasions, again convenient and reasonable, each time ordering the same items. This past week we once again went into the restaurant, ordered our usual order, no problem. We returned 2 days later, and was told they did not serve our usual items, had no way of ringing up our usual items and we would have to pay twice the amount for half the amount of sides we were receiving for the past 2 months. This, from the SAME employees who had served us the SAME items 2 days earlier. Yes, twice as much for half the quantity. With that said, I will now talk about the service we have received from the employees EACH AND EVERY TIME we have stepped foot in the restaurant (remember, convenient and reasonable). The attitude was that they were doing us a favor by even being there and serving us. No greetings, no thanks you, just a bored why are you even in here, I don't want to serve you attitude. Now that the food is no longer reasonable (at least for us, they may treat others differently), we have no need to go back to Cafe Rio. read more

My husband and I eat at Rios often in various states. The food is consistently good and the service friendly. Today, however, the Rio in Mesquite gave us our first Rio disappointment. We both ordered enchiladas. We were expecting the freshly made flour tortillas, but received pre-made tortillas. The difference was startling! The tortillas were tough, smaller in size and did not taste "homemade", a preference we always associate with Rio. Since this is my first time eating at this restaurant I can't say if the tortillas have always been this way. All I know is the difference is huge and for Rio aficionados, a loss. Thanks. read more

I thought my first bad experience with this location was a fluke but after the barely edible food this last visit, I will not be going to this location anymore. And I urge others to find something in this town to eat. First experience- Ordered my food through the app. My friends were at the restaurant eating and were going to pick it up for me. They went to pick it up and were told it was already picked up. I called the store told them that was not the case and refused to remake the order. I had to leave my event to go to the store to show them my order on my phone. They were extremely rude that they had to remake it again mind you this is now over 2hrs of waiting for the food. I asked to talk to a manager and was told one wasn't there and that it wasn't their fault. Whatever, I was hungry and needed to get back to my event. Second and last experience- Ordered food on the app again for my employees and I. While eating our food we all made the comment about how disgusting all of it was. I had a beef salad with house dressing. There was zero seasoning on the beef and the dressing was thin like water and little to no flavor. My employees got sweet pork burritos that also has zero sweet sauce/seasoning on it plus the mild sauce on top was very watery. We ordered chips and queso as well. The queso was fine but the bag of chips was less than half full. I love Cafe Rio but this location is so horrible that it shouldn't be allowed to call its self that name read more

Aside from the decent but small menu selection, the price is about as ritzy as Beverly Hills, CA. The price is about 10 times that of most authentic Mexican restaurants and these dishes are hit and miss. The only have shredded meats, chicken, and pork. They really need to add more to their menu.
