To start I had an empanada, an alcapuria, & finally pictured here a steak Jibarito. Everything was delicious. To end the friendly waitress gave me an in house made fruit salad. I haven't had Puerto Rican food in 15 years. No where near my house and I don't cook. This place brought back memories of good food. The jibaro, I call it, was great. Steak was thin but that's how I like it. Very good flavor, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and garlic and mayo were great! Arroz gondules was very good, hot, moist and flavorful! My 6 year old son had this food for the first time and really enjoyed it. He had the pastel, I think that's how you say it. Just like my exes mother used to make. Delicious. Love this place. It may not look like much but it is delicious. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. The Jivarito and Pollo Guisado are absolutely delicious. We also ask for more of the Mayo Ketchup because it is great on everything!!! It is a bit hard to find parking but you can park on the side streets wouldn't recommend parking on archer. read more

I just went to this resturant and what caught my attention was the inside it looks like theirs a lot of fun stuff that goes on at night. let me get to the food the empanada crust was good but the meat could have been better, the jibarito was okay nothing to brag about and the arroz con gandule was freakin good now that i would suggest eating other than that the waitress was sad or something she never smiled or introduced us to the menu. We ordered the "Pollo Frito" which took about 30 min to cook and looked and tasted like it was about 10 min over cooked. No air conditioning/ventilation. When we asked if we could possibly just be accommodated the "owner" was visibly/verbally upset and told us "It's not my fault you ordered something you didn't like" Very rude. absolutely LOVED the food at Cafe Rosa! Lechon was my favorite, but chicken was also very good. Rice is some of the best I have had. 2nd time ordering from here and the food is amazing. We ordered a little bit of everything from the menu. Mofongo con Camaron, Jibaritos, Pollo Frito, Papa Relleno, Alcapurrias, Arroz Blanco con Habichuelas. Everything tasted amazing, the lechon was so juicy! I love that we have a PR restaurant nearby and we no longer have to drive to the north side. If you haven't tried it - try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Today 4 of us went to Cafe Rosa located at 5842 s Archer. We wanted to try it because south we usually go to china buffett taco bell. We didnt think there was a puerto Rican restaurant south. But google did its job and found this place. Theres a saying that says" if its not broken dont fix it." I love ponce on north avenue. Why we decided to go to casa rosa was because it was near my sisters house. Theres no parking. Today they had three waitress, from reading other reviews theres usually one. There arent many tables. Today there was a swarm of flies.At one point i grabbed the menu to swat the bgeezes out of them . i missed. We moved to another table. The tables were on the sticky side. I would recommend a degreaser. The waitress brought our water and menu. She came back took order.i had the steak with salad and side order of fried plantains. I passed on the rice . although the others at the table said rice was on point. My nephew had chicken rice and salad. My other nephew had jibarito. Fried plantain, meat and salad on the inside with mayo. And my sister had rice with black beans, pork, yuca and alot of garlic.. Then i order a lb. of blood sausage for the table. What a fricken mistake.It came cut up into like 6 pieces. I took one piece. cut off a slice i put it in my mouth . i think i saw hell. It was flaming hot. And i mean spicy hot. It burned my tongue. My eyes started to tear and i drank two glasses of water and a cup of ice coffee. Ive had morcillas from ponce and jibarito y mas nothing like this. My nephew gave the place a 7. The other nephew went higher 8 . my sister she said between 7- me i would have to say about a five. The waitress took long time to bring our bill. She went to get 2 boxes for left overs and disappeared. Other waitress brought boxes. Will we be going back? NO.!! Im on the northside where i can find plenty of places to eat. Would i reccomend this place? The prices run - $8-10. We ended spending $59. If youre on the southside and are dying for puerto rican food and desperate. This place is for you.. Alcaparras and empanadas were great! Lechón was juicy and Arroz con gandules was moist. We are definitely coming back.

The employees here are lazy! They don't answer their phones to take orders, so I would HAVE go to the restaurant to see if they are even open and guess what...they are! They're just behind the counters yapping away! It's almost as if they don't like to make money! Simply ridiculous!!! The food is delicious without a doubt but they are running this restaurant into the ground by their neglectful and careless actions. They close way before the time specified on their menu and seem not to put the customer first. For it being the only Puerto Rican restaurant around the southwest side of Chicago, you would think that their customer service would be extraordinary. Instead I give it 3 stars and that's ONLY because of the food. Hey Cafe Rosa get your shit together before you no longer have any customers... no customers, no money, no money, no business WAKE UP!Too bad because you already lost one customer.
