I've never had a bad experience at any of the Smitten locations and I can't wait for the additional ice cream location, which I believe is opening at BuenaVista and White Lane. Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this place has a little bit of everything. Try to get something new every time we visit. They have live music on Thursdays and I believe they have little events here and there, at each location. Definitely a great addition to Bakersfield. We need more innovative and creative ideas like Smitten. Well done! The restaurant is always clean and the service is spot on. The food is always delicious and even though the menu is small, everything is cooked to order and seems to always be packed full of flavor. The coffee was okay. It is served in a glass with no handle and it's very hard to drink it until it becomes lukewarm. They have no cozies or anything for the glasses. The pastry selection was very limited. And it is very crowded and noisy in there. We went to the one on Ming Avenue. I don't think I would go again. read more

Came with my sister to have lunch. This place is one of her favorites because of the vegan options they have available. They also have meat for those who aren't. I had the steak wrap and it came with a salad. I ordered a side of fries and a slice of earl gray pie. I really enjoyed what I had. There was some veggies in my wrap that was really good, I just wish it had more throughout the wrap. My fries were seasoned well and perfectly crispy and of course the pie was so good! We also had a a Paloma cocktail and it was good, a little bit on the bitter side. I think a tiny bit of fresh squeezed orange juice would take the bitterness of the grapefruit down. My sister had the avocado toast, that came with a side salad and she ordered the hummus plate. It all looked great! They do have a dinner menu I would like to try. They do close after lunch time in order to prep for their dinner time. I like the style of the restaurant. It's very open and spacious! Steak on salad is not quality. Ask for dressing on the side because the salads are over dressed. Didn't enjoy my coffee... not sure what the flavor was, kind of like sludge. Egg dishes come with a tomato cucumber salad, pickles, tahini + bread. If you haven't have halloumi cheese before - you're missing out. It's a firm, salty cheese that surprisingly pairs well with eggs. The heirloom tomatoes are a nice addition to offset each savory bite. If you're like me and regularly gets out of towner guests for the weekend, you definitely want to take them somewhere for Sunday brunch before you send them off on their merry way! Been here a couple of times and I usually get the same thing to start--an iced cafe latte with a pie hole, while I wait for the heart of my meal. If you've had the pie holes here, these cute little babies are enough to bring you back another time. They are nutty and chewy at the same time. And if you order yourself a hot coffee or a hot latte, these babies are probably great for dipping. Will have to try that myself the next time I come by. If you prefer sweet for brunch, I would recommend the Nutella & Hazelnut toast. It has coconut flakes, Nutella, strawberries and toasted hazelnuts. If you prefer savory, they offer several options including some lighter fare (salads, quinoa bowls, etc.) There is plenty of seating available inside and outside as well if you prefer to dine al fresco. Went to check out Smitten and I have to say, this is one little restaurant that lives up to the hype. Start to finish, my experience was awesome. The Smitten Burger was one of the best burgers I have ever had. The beef was perfectly cooked and the toppings were fresh and delicious. I also tried the Kale Caesar Salad, which was equally impressive. The kale was crispy and fresh, and the dressing was perfectly balanced. But the food wasn't the only thing that impressed me. The service was top-notch. The servers were friendly & attentive. Finally, I have to mention the Earl Grey Pie. This dessert was out of this world. The crust was flaky and buttery, and the filling was rich and decadent. It was the perfect way to end our meal. Overall, I cannot recommend Smitten enough. It's a cute cafe/restaurant to visit. I'm no longer from the area but was recommended by a friend to take my father out to lunch. I stopped by that morning to get a latte and check out the place before taking my dad. Their customer service, not the best. I asked for agave and asked if I could pump it myself (I just like a tiny bit) and the barista just stared at me all confused. I said thank you, no response. Just looked at me.. Still decide take my dad back for lunch, he ordered an omelet and I ordered the vegan burger. Both really good. We ordered waters, but the cashier did not let us know it's self serve. So once we knew we of course got water. It's just the customer service for me, not great but not horrible. Food and ambiance makes up for that. They did not greet me, did not serve me my food nicely and threw the plate on my table, and the woman worker put trash on my plate "by accident" and when I told her my food wasn't done, she just said "oh" and left with the trash on the plate. I've been here several times now and I love the coffee here. Coffee is freshly brewed and I'm glad they put this one here on this side of town so it's closer to me. Although I do have to admit, I still like the downtown one versus this one. Early mornings it gets busy, but if you're not in a rush then this is a good place to grab your breakfast and coffee. From my understanding, some of their goodies are not made in-house and are actually from another establishment, but everything that I have tried here has been really yummy. Every time I have come, staff has always been incredible. They are very nice, respectful and they always look happy to be here. The establishment is always clean and they have lots of tables for you to enjoy your coffee break. The setup inside is cute and very inviting. The little succulents on the tables are a nice addition to your visit. Don't be intimidated by their lines during their rush since they are usually pretty quick. I have never waited a long time for any of my orders. This is a nice place to meet up with friends, family or even for business. Prices are not bad and are pretty normal for coffee, but their food items might be a little bit on the pricier side. Again, I think it's because they serve some food items from another establishment. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try! Lately I've been trying to try different cafes/coffee shops and the pictures and menu seemed interesting so I decided to give this a shot. Upon walking in we noticed it was quite busy! I didn't expect a cafe to be quite so busy. Since it was so busy, we were left with only the entry way tables to sit at. It wasn't a big deal. It was a chilly afternoon and they had the doors wide open so it got a little cold sitting in that area but not too bad! We looked at the desserts they had on display and they looked really tasty! We got to the front and the lady at the register was very nice and explained what the desserts had and a few of their drinks since it was our first time here. We decided on getting a brown sugar latte that was a special, a vanilla chai, Mexican chocolate pie, and 2 little pie bites. Unfortunately we didn't come to eat food so that will be the next time around but the desserts were pleasantly good seeing as the the place has some mixed reviews. I will say the pie was very decadent and a slice was more than enough for 2! Both of the drinks were delicious and the pie bites (we got lemon and chocolate) were very tasty as well.
