I've always seen this here, but I'm guilty for never trying this place out until recently. I actually pass this place almost everyday for work and my oldest son used to go to the Jr High around the corner many years ago, but I never visited until last year. Since then, I have now visited a few times and I kind of regret not coming earlier. On our last visit a few weeks ago when my youngest was down for spring break we came for breakfast and even my kids were surprised how good the food was. Breakfast is probably my favorite meal of the day and possibly the rest of my family because we all love eggs. My sons definitely want to come back and this place is already a place me and my husband loves to visit now. When you first walk in, you can't help but feel an older diner feel, the decoration is vintage and it almost looks like a restaurant from the 80s. Every time I have visited now, there's always people dining in, so this seems like a nice place Bakersfield people like to visit. The restaurant looks clean, just outdated. Service is always great, we have always been greeted with friendliness and patience because we never know what we want and sometimes we take time to order. Coffee is nice, they make the coffee semi strong which is perfect for me. Parking is a little crazy sometimes because of the surrounding businesses, but if you're like me and lived in Bakersfield for years and haven't visited, then you need to make your way out to check this place out! read more

Located off Ming Ave, you will find them tucked away in their own little corner of the buisness parking lot. Usually this place is packed on weekend mornings so just a heads up on that. Came by most recently on a Saturday morning at 11:45am and got seated right away. They were busy so I lucked out on that. Service was good here and after ordering my meal, the food was out in 10-15 minutes. I ordered a Denver Omlette with Cheddar and Jack Cheese. That thing was massive! The plate was $18 bucks so at least you do get your moneys worth. The dish was cooked to perfection and worth every penny. Truly a 10/10. We love this place and the one downtown it we visited this place because it was closer to our next destination. Upon entering we were greeted and served drinks right away. Our server was really nice and our order was taken right away too. They were not busy at all either so I think that helps too so it was really quiet. This place is really clean too. On this visit I ordered the Early Bird and my husband ordered the Lorene's omelette. I usually get the breakfast combo but wanted hash browns. Lorraine's Coffee Shop I can remember going with my father to Lorraine's in the 70s. We would walk from his work to the 24th Street location. A lot has changed since then, but Lorene's hasn't, with the exception of its location. It is simple American food served by delightful ladies much like it has always been. That being said, Coffee hasn't stood still for the past 50 years. And simply hot and brown doesn't cut it anymore. We moved closer to this location so we decided to have lunch there. It was busy. I noticed the 2 servers doing their best to take care of the crowd. It was getting warm inside. The staff are just normal folks; not overtly chatty or interactive. But please, do NOT misinterpret this as me hating the place! My son & I stopped in for breakfast and were not disappointed. We each had an omelette and they were both cooked perfectly. They included plenty of stuffing ingredients. I asked if they had salsa and they brought out a home made salsa that had a nice kick and complimented both of our omelettes well. They happily substituted fruit for potatoes. We went for a walk on this foggy morning in our new neighborhood and all of a sudden we decided we should go get breakfast at a near by restaurant. I've been before, but my partner hadn't. We walked just a little bit to get some breakfast. The restaurant only has 3 stars, but I figured you can't really mess up breakfast and it will be better than having to make it ourselves. The restaurant was clean, but loud because there were a bunch of rugrats sitting near us and the parents didn't care they were screaming. But it didn't ruin our breakfast. The staff is really friendly. I ordered the Mushroom Bacon and Cheese omlette with tomatoes, hashbrowns and sourdough. THE HASHBROWNS WERE DELICIOUS! Crispy on the outside and creamy potato on the inside. Their salsa was great as well. I really liked my breakfast and order it again. My partner ordered the Mexican style skillet with pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and good. The Mexican omlette has weird slimy potatoes on the bottom. We wouldn't order a skillet if that's what is on the bottom. It was decent. I had half a steak sandwich or as they call it an "open faced sandwich," which was okay. Cooked right, but lacked flavor. I'm guessing it was one of our first cooked plates since by the time I got it, the juices had leaked all over the toast which made it soggy so couldn't even pick up. This is nothing against the new guy working as he was doing his best to field questions, and when he did not know the answers would go ask the ladies in the back and return with his answer. Went there for lunch after years of not going. Not much has change. The service was good considering they're short staffed and one cook. So overall we were pleased (we were not a time schedule). I took time to visit with out waitress she's been there a long time. Longer than 8 years. She's friendly and very accommodating. I ordered the steak sandwich and a bowl of clam chowder. My wife had the trip-tip sandwich and a cup of chowder too. The steak sandwich was juicy and tender with good flavor. The tri- tip sandwich was of the same quality per my wife. Overall the meal was really good, I'm not sure why I've been away so long. Oh I tried to go in there two other times for dinner to findi them closed. Lorene's is your classic mom and pop diner where you can find always count on finding a decent meal. Like others have already mentioned, service here is nothing to write home about. I've been here numerous times and I've typically have received my check when I'm not even half way through my meal. Normally this would really bother me since it gives off the feeling that they want you out of there as quickly as possible. But I don't really take offense to it at Lorene's, it's just what they do here. The menu probably hasn't changed in years but it features all the diner classics, so why would you mess with a solid menu? The chicken fried steak here is my favorite. It's a respectable portion that leaves you perfectly full. It's always been perfectly fried, never overdone. Their fresh salsa is also incredible! It's much better than some Mexican restaurants I've been to. I usually drench my entire plate in it, it's that good! I actually think you may be able to purchase it by the pint (why haven't I done this?!). But overall, Lorene's is a solid, no-fuss type of greasy spoon diner. First time here, ordered omelette bacon spinach, wheat toast, fruit with coffee and water. I took a bite on the omeletteand oh was so salty, thinking maybe just one side so i try the other side and also salty. I called the server and explained, I can't eat the omelette it's so salty. The server defense, we don't put salt on that. She didn't apologize or nothing. So when we are paying the manager was at the cashier and explained the situation, she was the same, she was like we don't put salt on omelette. Instead of apologizing.
