    The Sophia Sandwich Breakfast
    Margarita R.

It wasn't great but satisfied the need for breakfast. When I think of a egg and cheese sandwich, I think of the being egg scrambled and that's not the case. Make sure to request that if you're looking for that! I also ordered the americano coffee that was on the bitter side. Overall, I probably wouldn't return.

$40 DOLLARS??? For two of these (1 WITHOUT bacon) and two cappuccinos and tip. Hoboken prices are out of control.

I went here on Saturday morning with my partner and our dog. Reviewing the menu on their bench, we quickly grabbed the single outdoor table once it freed up. We were left to clean the table ourselves, and while waiting on my order to be completed I brought used napkins, cutlery, and plates one by one into the cafe. We settled on breakfast sandwiches and coffee to start our day. Egg and Cheese Croissant: My partner ordered his with cheddar and bacon, while I chose provolone and added mushrooms and avocado. I found the croissants to be light and extremely flakey. My one complaint is that they were leaking oil from the base. The mushrooms were raw and thick cut - from the additional cost I expected them to be sauteed, seasoned, anything. Iced Mocha with Oat Milk: Although we were eating in, the drink was prepared in a plastic cup. I asked easy on the ice, but it was filled the brim. Chocolate syrup was poured over the milk and ice, proceeded to sink into the crevice of the plastic cup, and later stirring and shaking was no use to mix it. The coffee was poured in last, but ultimately a quarter of it splashed off the surface of the ice and on to the counter. In the end, the drink tasted like cold oat milk. Cappuccino with Oat Milk: This drink lacked the balance and complexity that makes a good cappuccino. It was overly acidic. Oatmeal Cookie: Great size for the price. Overly sweet and lacked the textural interest that I seek in a good oatmeal raisin cookie. As we were leaving, the owner hurried out grumbling, calling his two female staff bimbos. Not a great impression. Overall, for all of the choices in Hoboken for coffee and breakfast, I would not recommend Cafe Sophia. I also recommend looking at other places who are transitioning to environmentally friendly alternatives (e.g. biodegradable straws) or at the very least not using single use plastics for drinks to stay.

We found it on their grand opening day!

Great service on opening day and the sandwiches we got were outstanding. I ordered off menu (whoops) and got peppers and eggs on a long roll and it was great. My better half ordered "The Monroe" without the sriracha mayo which was also delicious. They serve Lavazza coffee and it's really nice to get coffee served in an actual coffee cup for a change. I spoke with the owner and his inspiration was all the little Italian coffee shops he remembered from growing up in Hoboken and they really did a great job of blending that feeling with the modern coffee shop. Limited outside seating for now, with 7 2-top tables inside.

Stumbled on this small breakfast spot a few saturdays ago. It is a small corner cafe but also has a few tables to sit down and eat in if you want. The one issue off the bat was that it was kind of smokey in there. The kitchen it pretty much behind the counter so the smoke comes into the table area. Maybe they need to improve the vent. The other issue is there is one guy running the show so sometimes you have to wait for service. He takes orders, brings food to tables, and cashes people out. Probably need one more person to help out. As for the food it wasnt anything spectacular. The nutella croissant was stale and tasted a day old. The egg mozzarella cheese sandwich on a croissant was ok but not the best in town. I don't really have a crazy urge to come back but if I am in the area and dying from hunger I would come. Otherwise there are better places.

There was only one other family dining, and the space stayed empty the entire time. The service was genuinely great. Friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere, and a really cute, cozy space. I especially loved the Christmas décor and overall vibe--it felt warm and inviting. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the prices. The house salad was $13 and honestly one of the most basic, smallest, and most boring salads I've ever had--very underwhelming for the cost. We also ordered quesadillas, a cheeseburger with fries, and grilled cheese with tomato soup. My son enjoyed the burger and fries, and the quesadillas were flavorful, generously filled with chicken and veggies, and came with sour cream, pico, and guac. The tomato soup was tasty, while the grilled cheese was just okay. One small but appreciated detail: canned soda. Cold, crisp, and not flat which is always a win. Lunch for 3 came in just under $100, which felt high given what we received. One frustration was being seated in a tight corner right next to the kitchen even though the dining room was completely empty. We were so close I could literally see into the kitchen and count items on the shelves. On top of that, the hostess repeatedly walked by calling out "corner," which became distracting and honestly a bit irritating. Overall, I liked the vibe, but the food-to-price ratio missed the mark for me. It wasn't bad--just alright.

The spicy rigatoni vodka had little to no fresh mutz despite chunks in the pictures on the website. Half of the mozzarella sticks were devoid of cheese and drenched in too much breading -- a far cry from the epic cheese pulls on the IG grid. And the chicken parm sandwich -- while serviceable with excellent bread -- was a fraction of the size and not even close to the double-decker cutlet shown on the online menu. No pickle included either. The ambience was lovely kitsch and the wait staff was friendly, kind, and attentive. But overall, it was incredibly disappointing dining experience. I had also been glad to see that they had a reasonable amount of seating; Hoboken has no shortage of coffeeshops, but few of them have comfortable seating options. At that first visit, I had ordered a Golden Latte, which I had enjoyed, but found very overpriced for a small takeout cup. So, I had not rushed back there for a while. However, I recently met a friend for coffee and found my giant, dine-in mug of cappuccino with almond milk reasonable at its ~$6.50 cost. My drink was creamy, rich, and delicious. I was also thrilled that we were able to get a table on a Saturday afternoon, though we both found the service inconsistent, as it went from overbearing to avoidant. However, it was still friendly and not something that would prevent me from returning. Overall, Bluestone Lane's cozy cafe atmosphere and tasty beverages made it a great place to grab a brew. I also need to try some of their food items, especially their avocado toast, which I have heard is fantastic.
