The charming town of Yachats is going to make my 5-star rating average skyrocket. What can be said about Luna Sea? The fisherman comes every night with fresh catch. The vibe couldn't get more authentic fish house unless we were on the boat. Speaking of authentic, the "chips" are about as real English triple cooked as I've had. I haven't been to England, but these fries are better than British themed pubs I've tried in Vegas. Freshness is the difference from the fish coming out of Luna's kitchen and any other fish houses we've tried from Santa Monica all the way up to Port Angeles. That's 3 Pacific states I mentioned. Lightly fried and nicely battered. I literally felt the alpha proteins process in my body before the check even came. Flakey, buttery and tender seem like generic terms to use with fish descriptions. I truly mean it here, dude. The aesthetic is functional honest fish house. Choose your own seating, with adequate outdoor umbrella'd picnic tables with a view of the gorgeous village. There's a hybrid indoor/outdoor dining space with a transparent rooftop for a sheltered outdoor vibe and there's an indoor dining area away from the elements as well. You seat yourselves. The busy bodies working at Luna's are chipper and are all about what they do. Keep a happy staff and you see the results. They have to be feeding the staff I'm sure. Refills on time, attentive even when full. Elioy is THE MAN! We've sent our teenagers on their own to dine here. It's that kind of service. Good peeps! I am going to stop trying to cook fish when we go to the beach, and go to this delicious restaurant. I cannot believe this is the first time we are venturing here! This very chill restaurant, has had some of the best fish and chips that I have tasted. They had a wide variety of fish, and you can get it grilled or fried. I chose the halibut it, which was so tasty! My husband got the cod, which was also excellent, but my meal was arguably better. They have a great kids menu as well. Beer and wine. There is some indoor seating, and lots of outdoor seating. They were super busy, so service was a little slow, but nothing that was a problem. This is not a fancy place, but it sure is tasty! The salmon was the best one. It was flavorful and tender. I liked the halibut too because it was very clean tasting and flaky. The albacore was forgettable. The texture was mushier and tasted fishier. Even with the subpar albacore, the whole meal was great. The fries were thick and fluffy. I appreciated that they were generous with the ketchup and tartar sauce. I also liked that despite this being a fried dish, it didn't feel greasy or heavy. It's not cheap, but I think it's worth it. Loved the fried cod and chips!! Most of our group got the halibut but we pretty much all agreed the cod was the best, so soft and delicious. The seasoning on the "chips" (fries) was interesting, mine had absolutely zero seasoning at all, whereas my mom's had a dump of seasoning on one part of it. Driving down south Oregon along the coastline. Decided to stop for a quick lunch. Very gloomy and foggy day and we were the only guest. The whole town seems weirdly quiet and aloof. But the food was actually surprisingly good. Another delicious lunch at Luna Sea! We always stop here when we're in Yachats. They have another location in Seal Rock, but we have yet to stop in there. Today we decided to try their inside dining area. It was decent, but we decided we prefer the outdoor enclosed seating area with heaters. It has much better natural light. The indoor dining area felt more like a basement. It's definitely a nice option during the stormy weather conditions the Oregon coast gets. Today we ordered the combo fish and chips with halibut, albacore tuna and wild king salmon. There were two pieces of each fish, making it perfect to share. The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly. Love their homemade tartar sauce. We also ordered the New England clam chowder with garlic bread. The chowder had great flavor, but I prefer my clam chowder thick, not runny. My husband really enjoyed it. Overall a nice experience with quick and friendly service. This place is a little odd, although the food was pretty tasty. First, the not so great. We walked up in between the two buildings without any signage telling us where to go. We got in line to walk into the bar area, just to be told to exit the area due to fire code restrictions (totally understandable) instead of being welcomed and told where to go. I ended up writing our own names on a board the servers were using and hoped for the best. A woman came out a few min later and told us there were a couple open tables in the outside building if we wanted to seat ourselves. The menus were waiting for us, covered with what must be the oil of many other diners' hands. They were so gross, we tried to touch them as little as possible. After using them, I made my way to the restroom to wash my hands, just to find a normal residential restroom, complete with shower and plastic curtain - weird. The good. The food was pretty good. We ordered a captain's platter and a half basket of clam strips. Oddly, both platters were roughly the same size. I'll continue to focus on the good. The fish, shrimp, and scallops on the captain's platter seemed fried in a Tempura style batter and cooked almost perfectly, with the scallop and shrimp juuuust cooked through. The clam strips seemed battered/coated in a cornmeal type of dry batter and were decent. (I learned later from a local) that the entire waitstaff covers all tables and tip pools. This meant, while we didn't have a dedicated server, we did have people checking in with us regularly without having to chase down our server. Overall, the food was pretty good, but the odd layout, confusing welcome, and dirty menus were a turnoff. Not writing this place off though and hoping for a different experience if we return. read more

Delicious. Possibly the best fish & chips I've ever had. We were concerned when we first arrived that there was only outdoor seating, but eventually found our way into an indoor patio area. It was charmingly lit and decorated and we were the only ones there, so we got out choice of seating. We started a trend because not to long after, the place filled up with people. I ordered halibut and prawns, forgoing the scallops in the listed combo they had available. It didn't take very long to arrive & was piping hot for most of the meal. And so freaking delicious. It was served with a small side of coleslaw, which I don't normally care for, but I was in desperate need of some veggies, so I ate it... and I liked it! Not creamy and drowning in sauce like I'm used to seeing - it was very light and refreshing. A cellist was set up & started up live music while we were dining around 6:30 & he was really good. I stop here every time I'm in Yachats. We grab a table outside in the sunshine,and kick back. Our go to order is the luna sea platter with fried prawns, scallops, and halibut. The food always shows up fresh and perfectly cooked! The breading was light and hugged the fish just enough in each bite. The halibut is always my favorite but today the scallops really sang. Buttery and soft. Everything pairs perfectly with their homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw. I just love it here! read more

We were excited to try Luna Sea Fish House after hearing so many good things, but unfortunately our first experience was disappointing. From the moment we arrived, things got off on the wrong foot. We followed the **"Dining Entrance"** sign around the building and ended up confused between the outdoor seating and the Gallery entrance. Several employees walked right past us while we were obviously trying to figure out where to go, but no one offered any guidance. Once we finally found the indoor dining area, no one acknowledged us. Three employees were behind the counter, but we had to speak up and ask if we should seat ourselves. Jeremy, who was clearly busy, said in an annoyed tone, 'Take any clean table." Service continued to feel disorganized. One young man took our beer order, then a young woman took our food order. A few minutes later, the young man returned to take our food order again because apparently they hadn't communicated with each other. When our food arrived, we'd already requested two soup spoons when we placed our order, but only one was brought out. When we asked Jeremy for the missing spoon, he replied, **"If you'll wait a minute, I'll be happy to get it for you,"** but his tone conveyed anything but happiness. It felt unnecessarily sharp, especially since we'd already requested the second spoon with our order. The final interaction really sealed the experience. My husband ordered a second beer and simply asked for the same one he'd just had. Jeremy responded, **"If you tell me what you had, I'd be happy to help you out,"** again in a terse, annoyed tone. The interaction was so off-putting that my husband canceled the beer altogether. I understand restaurants get busy, and everyone can have an off day. We were only ones inside, some were outside, but hospitality matters. A smile, a little patience, and basic courtesy go a long way. Considering the premium prices, we expected much better service. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the service. While it was decent, we didn't feel it justified the prices--a cup of clam chowder for $10, along with the overall cost of the meal, left us feeling the value simply wasn't there. Overall, we left feeling like we were an inconvenience from the time we arrived until we walked out. Most racist experience I've encountered...went out of our way to try this place with my girlfriend, who is Hispanic, and we were totally ignored by the staff as they served a white couple right in front of us and we weren't even acknowledged. One of the staff even went out of his way to ask the couple if they've been helped & if they have ordered, I spoke up & said "we haven't been helped & would like to order" and we were totally ignored. The fish is definitely fresh, and the French fries are good but I got a stomachache. I think there is too much butter on the sandwich. Butter was not listed as a condiment or I wouldn't have gotten it. Also while the lettuce and tomato were fresh, it was just kind of amateur in presentation. Great little place for some casual seafood. As you approach it from the 101 highway, you'll see the fish market but the dining area is to the left. They actually have 2 dining areas...one is the main dining area where the restroom is and the other is a covered annex with just tables and chairs. The Annex is heated so on a cold day, it's still warm enough. We had the clam chowder which was pretty good. Had big chunks of clam but a bit too much potato for my taste. Wow this place has fallen off. Too many issues to list them all so I'll just leave this. The chowder was not hot enough to serve. Barely warm. I didn't complain, and when I went to pay I told the server and the response I got was "perfect". Thinking maybe there was some sort of miscommunication I said it wasn't anywhere close to 140 degrees. I was met with silence. We made a stop at Luna Sea Fish House to get some fish and chips. The parking in their lot was limited so we had to find more parking down in the residential area. There were a lot of tables open so we seated ourselves and were promptly served water. The guy who served us wasn't able to take any orders so we waiting for our waitress. There were a lot of seats and tables full with people. Thankfully the sun was out so it kept us warm but there are umbrellas. I ordered the cod and chips while my husband got the slumgullion and crab cock tail. The cod and chips were delicious but it was made with tiny chunks of fish. I just wished they would have had some homemade dilly or caper sauce. The crab cocktail was good just needed less shells in it. The slumgullion was ok, just didn't have enough seasoning in it like cream/butter /salt. I got a side salad which came with a lot of toppings: cranberry, mandarin orange, walnuts, which my daughter didn't want. To others that may have been a better side salad but she is very simple. They have ranch in a squeeze bottle if you ask for it. Service was good, not fast nor slow. It was great to see the small town from our outside seats. I saw mixed reviews about this place, took a chance and unfortunately we ended up being one of those that had a bad experience. A server yelled for us to pick a table and we sat in one of the outside areas. It felt very disorganized, like servers weren't assigned sections. No one came to our table for about 15 minutes, and only then to give us water. It was about an additional 15 minutes until a server came to take our orders. We asked one basic dietary question about the menu and the server just said "I don't know." They didn't offer to find out the answer and pointed out one solitary dish that would meet the allergen needs. She said she knew there were more, but just didn't know what they were. We were super hungry by that point so we just ordered. After that, within 5 minutes 2 other servers came over to also take our orders, it was just very disorganized. The good thing was that our food came out very quickly after we were finally able to order. The bad thing was the food was mediocre. The portions were very modest for the high price. The fish tacos were hands down the worst we've ever tried anywhere on any continent, so dry and flavorless. We all took a bite because we couldn't believe how bad they were. The person who ordered ended up eating only two bites then couldn't stomach the rest. One of the teenage boys ate them because he was still hungry after finishing his meal. No one ever came back to ask us if we needed anything or how the food was. We probably had three minutes interaction total with staff the hour plus we were there. Tables next to us were getting frustrated as well trying to get help from the servers, and it wasn't especially busy. There was no one waiting and there were empty tables. The place isn't cheap and we opted to give a 10% tip because the service was so poor. I tip at least 20% when the service is just normal but this was terrible. We then got glared at by the staff. All in all, the whole experience was bad and we definitely will not be back if we are in the area. read more

There's clear instructions to seat your self, but then when you do, they may or may not have you move since your table was "promised" to someone else.
