Driving down south Oregon along the coastline. Decided to stop for a quick lunch. Very gloomy and foggy day and we were the only guest. The whole town seems weirdly quiet and aloof. But the food was actually surprisingly good. Since we were the first guest for lunch, the food is very hot and crispy which is great for a cold day The fries is crispy, thick cut, and with a nice powdery seasoning with a mild kick The Luna sea omelet is packed with various seafood and generous with the quantity. It matches well with the white sauce and with the juicy mushroom. The toast is also very crispy with homemade blackberry jam The cod is also fried just right. Waiter is very nice as well.

Another delicious lunch at Luna Sea! We always stop here when we're in Yachats. They have another location in Seal Rock, but we have yet to stop in there. Today we decided to try their inside dining area. It was decent, but we decided we prefer the outdoor enclosed seating area with heaters. It has much better natural light. The indoor dining area felt more like a basement. It's definitely a nice option during the stormy weather conditions the Oregon coast gets. Today we ordered the combo fish and chips with halibut, albacore tuna and wild king salmon. There were two pieces of each fish, making it perfect to share. The fish was delicious and cooked perfectly. Love their homemade tartar sauce. We also ordered the New England clam chowder with garlic bread. The chowder had great flavor, but I prefer my clam chowder thick, not runny. My husband really enjoyed it. Overall a nice experience with quick and friendly service. Prices are a little high, but you can tell the fish is wild and fresh, so it's worth it! They don't sell farmed fish here. Would highly recommend!

Captain's platter on left, 1/2 basket clam strips on the right. Not sure why they're the same portion size!

This place is a little odd, although the food was pretty tasty. First, the not so great. We walked up in between the two buildings without any signage telling us where to go. We got in line to walk into the bar area, just to be told to exit the area due to fire code restrictions (totally understandable) instead of being welcomed and told where to go. I ended up writing our own names on a board the servers were using and hoped for the best. A woman came out a few min later and told us there were a couple open tables in the outside building if we wanted to seat ourselves. The menus were waiting for us, covered with what must be the oil of many other diners' hands. They were so gross, we tried to touch them as little as possible. After using them, I made my way to the restroom to wash my hands, just to find a normal residential restroom, complete with shower and plastic curtain - weird. The good. The food was pretty good. We ordered a captain's platter and a half basket of clam strips. Oddly, both platters were roughly the same size. I'll continue to focus on the good. The fish, shrimp, and scallops on the captain's platter seemed fried in a Tempura style batter and cooked almost perfectly, with the scallop and shrimp juuuust cooked through. The clam strips seemed battered/coated in a cornmeal type of dry batter and were decent. (I learned later from a local) that the entire waitstaff covers all tables and tip pools. This meant, while we didn't have a dedicated server, we did have people checking in with us regularly without having to chase down our server. Overall, the food was pretty good, but the odd layout, confusing welcome, and dirty menus were a turnoff. Not writing this place off though and hoping for a different experience if we return.

Delicious. Possibly the best fish & chips I've ever had. We were concerned when we first arrived that there was only outdoor seating, but eventually found our way into an indoor patio area. It was charmingly lit and decorated and we were the only ones there, so we got out choice of seating. We started a trend because not to long after, the place filled up with people. I ordered halibut and prawns, forgoing the scallops in the listed combo they had available. It didn't take very long to arrive & was piping hot for most of the meal. And so freaking delicious. It was served with a small side of coleslaw, which I don't normally care for, but I was in desperate need of some veggies, so I ate it... and I liked it! Not creamy and drowning in sauce like I'm used to seeing - it was very light and refreshing. A cellist was set up & started up live music while we were dining around 6:30 & he was really good. It was such a neat vibe, really rounding out the whole dining experience for me at Luna. I loved it & would recommend it to anyone and everyone who stops into Yachats.

Been going to their other location for years! We stayed in Yachats for a couple days and decided to eat here, of course! Was perfect weather to sit outside! Food was great as always, service was great too! Only negative at this location is that on the "Luna Sea Platter," they didnt allow you to get the scallops grilled instead of fried. But it was still delicious.

I like it! Funky little sea fish house place in Yachats. This town is tiny and has a great amount of character. I'm trying every PNW chowder and this one is in the top ten now. Very fresh tasting whole clams and the potatoes are excellent. The soup is not too thick and consistency is great! Buttery creamy smooth. I like the chowder here! I'll be back to try something else sooner or later. I like the place, it's rustic and friendly.

Outdoor annex to the left of the store front.

Great little place for some casual seafood. As you approach it from the 101 highway, you'll see the fish market but the dining area is to the left. They actually have 2 dining areas...one is the main dining area where the restroom is and the other is a covered annex with just tables and chairs. The Annex is heated so on a cold day, it's still warm enough. We had the clam chowder which was pretty good. Had big chunks of clam but a bit too much potato for my taste. The calamari was excellent and very tender. The fish and chips and the Luna Sea Platter were also both very good. Friendly service all around.

    Albacore fish n chips

This really hit the spot when looking for some Oregon Coast fish and chips. We tried a basket of cod and one of albacore. Both were delicious, the albacore much more firm and meaty, the cod light and flaky with a bit more excess batter. It's a great spot to sit outside and dine on a summer day at the coast in beautiful Yachats. The service was fairly quick considering how many people were there, they did great!

so delicious. Ordered the halibut and chips a must have! bomb no words... kinda bugged out that is making me write so much... cuz its just a mic drop.

We made a stop at Luna Sea Fish House to get some fish and chips. The parking in their lot was limited so we had to find more parking down in the residential area. There were a lot of tables open so we seated ourselves and were promptly served water. The guy who served us wasn't able to take any orders so we waiting for our waitress. There were a lot of seats and tables full with people. Thankfully the sun was out so it kept us warm but there are umbrellas. I ordered the cod and chips while my husband got the slumgullion and crab cock tail. The cod and chips were delicious but it was made with tiny chunks of fish. I just wished they would have had some homemade dilly or caper sauce. The crab cocktail was good just needed less shells in it. The slumgullion was ok, just didn't have enough seasoning in it like cream/butter /salt. I got a side salad which came with a lot of toppings: cranberry, mandarin orange, walnuts, which my daughter didn't want. To others that may have been a better side salad but she is very simple. They have ranch in a squeeze bottle if you ask for it. Service was good, not fast nor slow. It was great to see the small town from our outside seats. If you are traveling through the area make sure to check this place out!

I'll start by agreeing with the many reviews that mention that the seating situation is a mess here. There's clear instructions to seat your self, but then when you do, they may or may not have you move since your table was "promised" to someone else. However, this is a small business in a tiny town on the Oregon coast, so I'll give them a break on their organization. The food is amazing! Delicious crispy cod and fries. Perfectly seasoned chowder. And if you sit at the tables on the side of the restaurant, you have an amazing view of the ocean! So, be prepared for annoying/disorganized seating, but know it will be worth it in the end!

Ask the Community - Luna Sea Fish House

Do they serve beer and wine?

    Yes to both 😬

Do they have any gluten free fried fish?

As far as I know the batter they use is not gluten free. I'm sorry. The grilled rock fish is very, very tasty though. That's gluten free. It depends on what the catch of the day is though. Everything is fresh. I hope this helps.

    So they take reservations?

No reservations but don't worry. Plenty of seating in this exceptional and fun restaurant.

Anyone know if they have a kids menu?

We were here in January 2020, and there is indeed a kids menu

We were told that Ona was the chef's restaurant and wanted to come check it out. Appearance - We recommend sitting outside on their patio. I wish I ordered more. They were so yummy! I also got a bowl of the clam chowder that was great. My husband ordered the albacore steak sandwich and said it had a large piece of fish with good seasoning but mentioned he wouldn't order it again. We happened to be there during happy hour and wanted to try oysters for the first time. Let's just say it was a taste of the ocean and will be our last :/ Oysters are just not for us! I've heard that oysters can be seasoned and spruced up to help add more flavor, but these were not. I wonder if it would have helped us enjoy them more?

Finally, with friends visiting from Washington, we made a special trip up to Reedsport, just to try it out. Best dining experience for a long time, for each of us! We called in for reservations, and the host nabbed us a table by the window, with an incredible view out across the bay. Upon arrival, Ron greeted us like we were family, and promptly offered us a tour of this very unique facility. The remains of a retired Coast Guard cutter, the entry way brings you into what looks to be a steel galleyway. Portholes peek through to the bar area and dining rooms. Up top, guests can reserve a private dining room, built from the original Bridge Cabin of the ship! Ron's original artwork adorned the walls of the place, and were quite unique - definitely adds to the decor. We sat down with the menu, and were pleased with the excellent variety of items available. We started off with the Clams Portuguese appetizer, and all LOVED it! In my opinion, it could have included a few more wheels of the Linguica, but the flavor was perfect. The drinks menu was very inviting, but considering that we were all extending our Dry January tradition, opted to try them on another visit. For our main course, my partner ordered the Beef Stroganoff. Being an aficionado of this dish, and having her own special recipe herself, she really loved how the flavors blended. Our guests ordered the Spaghetti di Frutti di Mare, and the Shrimp Louis salad. Both were delicious! I requested the Huckleberry-glazed Salmon, and was delighted with the consistency. The turmeric rice side dish was fantastic as well. Our favorite item was the Flowerpot Bread - a dense, two-toned baked roll, with a crusty shell. Very nice for wiping out all the delicious sauce residue from our meals. The parking was just a minor challenge; it is shared with the restaurant next door, so we ended up parking in what seemed to be boat trailer spots. Fortunately, there were no boats coming or going that evening, but it could be dicey during salmon season. We will definitely be back soon, however, to try out some of the other excellent-looking menu items!
