The sign outside says Best Bloody Marys this side of the Mississippi. I have seen some pretty over the top drinks lately and was curious about their version - - decided to stop in one afternoon to give it a try. The interior of the place was not at all what I had expected. I was thinking dark, low lights, lots of booths and a large bar. I was surprised to find a big open room with a bar on the side, next to a kitchen window, tables in the front and some gaming and a pool table in the back half. I heard some of the regulars talking about some new games back there but I didn't venture past my comfortable bar stool. Didn't see the food menu but most of the folks had baskets full of fried food and condiments. I stuck with my Bloody Maria idea and it was tasty - - the bartender filled it with a variety of pickled veggies and a pepperoni stick. The flounder has gone down hill horrible there are a couple good people working in there an working there butts off, so it's with a heavy heart that I leave this post. The management is poor and when I say poor I mean very poor the place needs new management an has needed it for years now. Flounder Inn is your typical small town dive bar. If you are not scared of dive bars, then go ahead and give this place a shot if you can't figure any place out to eat when you come in to town a little late, and most places are getting ready to close, and some of the other places look a little too packed. We showed up on a Thursday evening, the parking lot wasn't packed so we stopped in. The waitress was very nice, and attentive to our needs. We both ended up ordering the halibut fish n chips, and I had the tomato soup with mine, he had the homemade clam chowder. I forgot to ask if the tomato soup was homemade. It was pretty good. I do not drink often, but since we were on a little vacation I wanted Tito's and pineapple juice. I can't remember if she said they do not carry it, or if they were out. No biggie, I think I ended up with Stoli. The drink was good. He loved his clam chowder, and also the halibut was pretty good. I usually prefer my halibut not breaded, but if they don't make it that way, and this is the only way it was pretty good. The tarter sauce was also pretty good, which I am also picky about some times. Bartender pre occupied with current movie playing on TV Chef long uncovered hair and beard most interested in machine which says Video Lottery Food ok had special made of gristle prime rib scraps called prime rib scramble. Tasted ok but full of gristle scraps. $12.00 Had to pour my own coffee refill with only 6 people in place! meal took over 10 minutes to prepare and Server Never did pick up my paymen. First impression was that this business needs to work on cleaning. The tables were a bit sticky and dirty and the floors needed vacuumed. The employee was very nice They had a good assortment of beer. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary, it was nothing special. I had a cup of potato soup, it was fresh and delicious. Off to a good start with food. I ordered fish and chips and my husband ordered a hamburger with American cheese. He said that even though the burger was ordered medium rare, it came and it was still dry. Again, nothing special. The shoe string fries were cooked perfectly. As for my fish, they looked beautiful. The top side was nice and crisp but the bottom side was platted too soon after cooking, which made them soggy on the bottom side. The fish had no flavor, they need to season the batter and maybe add some salt to the fish prior to cooking. The best part of the meal was the potato soup. The meal was not worth the cost. I paid $22.00 for the fish and chips, a more reasonable cost would be half that. read more

Went in tonight to hang because we thought the broasted chicken was the best on the coast and it was a cool place to chill and listen to music. This was our third visit. We really enjoyed the first two. After we had our snack a gentleman sitting across from us approached and asked why we were in Waldport. We chatted a bit and then he said that Waldport didn't like tourist. We were sitting at our table drinking our beer. Not sure if the staff felt the same. Well... not great, but not horrible, either. We walked into the diveyest bar I have ever been in and I instantly wanted to run away (reminiscent of a creepy van). However, despite the lack of windows and dingy interior, there were well lit games with catchy tunes, a very attentive and kind waitress, and eye catching interest all around. The food was atypical of bar food, but prepared similarly in that it wasn't very flavorful and extremely greasy. Not great, for sure, but not horrible, either. The beer was pretty good, as well. I can honestly say I most likely wouldn't go back unless I had no other alternative, but if you enjoy bar food and games and a pretty good beer, then you might really enjoy it here. read more

Was visiting a buddy on the Alsea and ventured in to watch the Duck's game. Good sports bar scene with multiple TVs. Friendly barmaid. Met some cool locals-had some good beers. Karaoke playing while game still on, could've done without squealing singers, but made place entertaining. read more

Been here for breakfast, lunch, dinner and just drinks many times now and I absolutely love this place. Happened to be staying around the area during my last birthday and stopped in The Flounder and had a great night. It's really everything you'd expect out of a small town bar and it's always fun being the new person in a group of locals. From that night on I was a fan. People here are very fun and the bartenders are great too. Love the pool tables and slot machines. Drinks and food are well priced. Got more potato wedges than I knew what to do with for like $3 and now thats usually my goto when available. Just a simple, easygoing place usually full of great people and I make sure I go at least once every time I'm in Waldport but let's be real, I usually hang out here every night. read more

We've been coming to Waldport for years, and we've always loved the fresh seafood from the area. We came here and ordered seafood expecting it to be local and fresh, but what we got was frozen, prepackaged, and deep fried fish and clams. I paid about $17 for the halibut and we also ordered some clam strips but they were all out of a bag and deep fried with really thick breading. It was really disappointing. Stop for dinner one evening. Wifey had prime rib. The meat was so tough and stringy you could nor eat it. Although the waitress took off 10 bucks for the bad food the whole experience was below par would never return there. People were smoking on the outside patio. I live locally, but never tried this place until last week. Kind of a gritty, dark place (ever been to the Timbers in Toledo?), but the waitress was friendly and the beer was ICE COLD---just the way I like like it! Hubby had a burger and fries and I had the jojos and clam strips. The clam strips were a little overcooked, but had great flavor and the tartar sauce was very good. The jojo order was huge and HOT and delicious---comes with a generous cup of ranch for dipping. The burger and fries were really good. I was wishing I would have just ordered the soup at this point! My husband salad looked good but just lettuce with a tablespoon of runny dressing. It had some veggies and a nice thick dressing! Then our main course came. Fries and deep fried halibut. Fries were tasty and a huge serving. The halibut was breaded in corn meal batter of some sort. I was assuming and expecting regular fish fry batter. This was good but but not my favorite. The fish was mild and tasty a little on the dry side for me. But my husband lives halibut and he really enjoyed his ( and part of mine)!! So mine was just a personal preferance. I like cod.... Went here for a beer one evening since I am a local. Has a typical 'dive bar' atmosphere, but the service was very friendly and fast. However, there was a group of drunk locals taking to each other across the bar so loudly we couldn't even hear ourselves. We left after one beer even though we wanted to stay. We stopped by on a whim to find "All you can eat ribs" as the special. They were amazing, fall off the bone juicy ribs with a tasty but not overwhelming sauce. It came with a plate full of baked beans with ham and onion and coleslaw. I am not a fan of either side dish, but got them as I didn't want to be, "that picky lady." Good thing I did because they were both great. My boyfriend ordered the Reuben sandwich that he classified as "the best he ever had." It was presented well and was stuffed with such goodness that it soon became a messy operation. He is a connoisseur of Reuben sandwiches and this was the best! The order of fries served as a side dish for three of us and while we were all full, we wanted more. They were perfectly crispy with light seasoning and were plentiful. The beer list is very good and they have a list of creative mixed drinks for each season. The apple pie hot cider cocktail was amazing! The waitress was very friendly and has been each time I have called for take out. That's right, if you don't want to be around a bunch of friendly strangers, you can call in an order for take out! She is attentive, happy and generally seems to enjoy her job. If the place gets real busy she may not hear you call for another order of fries, so be nice and raise your hand or catch her on the next round and she'll be right over. The appearance, outside and inside, is modest and does not prepare you for the amazing food and friendly service you will find here. If you are looking for white table clothes and small portions of things that are hard to pronounce, this is not the place for you. We were hungry travelers arriving late into Waldorf after everything except this bar was closed. The bar tenders were friendly and while the main kitchen menu was closed, they had a bar menu with tots, fries, and chicken strips on it. The chicken strips were tasty! And the bartender doing the cooking didn't bat an eye when we asked for four more orders to take back to the house where there were more weary travelers. Homesick for a Portland dive bar and heard this is where the locals hang out. And I do know why.
