I discovered this restaurant last year. I'm here for Work for the summer again and was looking forward coming back to Cafe This Way the for pancakes (very good) I eat out solo so I sit at the bar. I came back to the restaurant a few weeks ago when I came in to sit the Bartender name is Fred looks at me and doesn't say hello. How are you? As a bartender he should be greeting the guest ...I didn't feel welcomed there and I told myself if I come back here again I'm not going to tip. I went back today craving a pancake he was the bartender and he did the same thing as last time... I didn't tip... Literally stunning!! We were on our way out of Bar Harbor and needed breakfast so we stopped here. We only waited a couple minutes before getting seated at a table outside. The staff was so nice and checked on us on constantly and sitting outside was just gorgeous and so nice. We ordered some coffee which the staff kept full. For breakfast I got the country breakfast with scrambled eggs and a blueberry pancake. We had already hit the 2 Cats Cafe, so we wanted to be sure to try Cafe This Way, which was the other highly recommended Bar Harbor breakfast spot we had heard about. It's a little hard to find, because it's tucked behind some other stores just off Main Street. The Cafe Monte Cristo sounded great when I read the description on the menu and it lived up to exactly what I had hoped for. Others in our party had the French Toast and the Country Breakfast and really enjoyed them. The inside of the building has a cute library/bookstore theme and there is also a spacious outdoor dining area. This is definitely one of the top breakfast spots in town! read more

I almost always rely entirely on Yelp when making dining decisions. Our breakfast experience at Cafe This Way is an excellent example of why I have come to depend on fellow Yelpers... Our Bar Harbor lodgings offered a decent, if typical, free American hotel breakfast buffet. It was fine. But after a few days of it, we decided we wanted to try something different. Yelp to the rescue. Based on our search criteria, 4.5-star Cafe This Way topped the list, and off we went. As frequently reported by those who preceded us, this off-the-beaten-path, eclectic breakfast spot was well worth the trip down the alley off Mt. Desert St. I ordered the housemade Corned Beef Hash with Poached Eggs (drizzled with Hollandaise Sauce), and she ordered the Veggie Eggwhite Omelette with Cheddar. Both came with homemade sourdough toast, and we knew from reading the reviews to ask for the homemade strawberry jam. We both loved our breakfasts! So much so that we would have been back again the following day if not for our plan to be up in time for the Bar Harbor sunrise (and the need for food and coffee well before Cafe This Way's opening hour). Bonus: The decoratively displayed used books led to my partner's discovery of a new author she has since started reading. This was probably one of my favorite meals of our entire eight day trip. We followed the reviews to this eatery after looking for the best blueberry pancakes in town on Yelp. It's true, these pancakes are incredible. You can't beat the crispy buttery edges. We shared one as a family as an appetizer. The restaurant has a large indoor space as well as, a garden patio with plenty of shade from umbrellas and trees. We ordered a smoothie, shakshuka with eggs, quiche of the day with fresh fruit and coffee. They offer fun and flavorful smoothie and food specials each day. Be sure to ask what is offered! I was impressed with how kid friendly the establishment was, the staff was super patient with us and brought over to chairs. Speaking of service, everyone was very friendly and helpful during our meal. Overall, this was a five star experience and I will definitely visit again in the future. This place is really good -- we went here twice on our short stay in the area. Inside and outside, the space is very nice and comfortable. We sat outside both days given the great weather. There's plenty of seating in both areas. The service is really good here. The hostess is very pleasant, and our servers have all been on top of it as well. Monte Cristo - The eggs were nicely done, the ham was flavorful, and the hash browns were moderately crisp and seasoned well. The actual french toast was good, but not great. I expected fluffier slices. They also tasted more eggy than cinnamon sugary (which was essentially remedied with the maple syrup). In short, good, but could be a bit better. Recommend the two dishes below over this one. The Smokey - A perfectly executed scramble with plenty of veggies and smokey trout, which really elevated this dish. I could have eaten this all day -- so good. All of the flavors went very well together. Highly recommend. Blueberry Pancake - The blueberry pancake was great --- crepe-like thickness with crisp edges. These pancakes are certainly top-tier, but they're a little expensive at $7 for just one. They're wide, taking up nearly the whole plate, but one pancake is more of a snack-size, supplementing the scramble nicely such that I was pretty full by the end. This was my favorite restaurant in bar harbor! The Pancakes are to die for! They close for the season in the winter, but I highly recommend anybody to visit if they are in town while they are open. My friend and I went here twice while on vacation in Bar Harbor for a week. They are really good at making sure your coffee stays filled. We split pancakes and one of the egg dishes both times. The food came out very quickly, and all of the servers were very kind. The inside is very cozy and they also have outdoor seating if the weather is nice. WOW, this was a fantastic brunch spot!! My friends and I decided to stop by here on our way out of Bar Harbor. It's on a side street with limited parking so I'd recommend parking in the square on the street. We didn't have reservations so it took about 15 minutes wait to be seated. The weather was gorgeous so we sat outside which was really nice! The staff was also super friendly, making sure to check in on us consistently. I had an iced chai to drink which was delicious! For food, I ordered the Mandala and split a blueberry pancake with a friend. The scramble was so yummy and I loved the buttery toast it came with. The pancake was the winner though!! I ordered the Salmon Bagel Sandwich, which came with chive and dill cream cheese, cucumber, smoked salmon, a fried egg, and capers. There were good proportions of everything and it was very tasty. Enjoyed our last breakfast here in Bar Harbir before heading out. It's tucked away on a side street that has a parking lot but fills up quickly so I would recommend just doing street parking. We didn't have reservations and it was about a 15-20 minute wait on a Tuesday morning during the summer. The waitstaff were very friendly and made sure to check on us throughout our meal. They also make patterns on the ground outside with the leftover water on the tables when they I got Kit's burrito which was delicious and very filling.
