My husband and I were visiting Bar Harbor and, specifically, Acadia National Park - a week or two before the season really gets started. Thankfully, there was just enough open for us to be able to eat well and sample a lot! Our first breakfast in the area was Cafe This Way - I think this was only the second day they'd opened for the season. We started with coffee and a latte. I had the traditional eggs benedict, with canadian ham, and my husband had the corned beef has. We also split a chocolate chip pancake. Overall, it was a solid breakfast - I really enjoyed my benedict and my husband cleared his plate! The pancake was both crispy and fluffy, and wasn't too sweet. I loved that you order your entree and then any sides as needed; sometimes at breakfast places I feel so wasteful, because I don't want the homefries or fruit! Stopped in for breakfast at 10am on a Friday and had a 30 minute wait. I don't fault businesses for being busy, this is just a note for future patrons. The food was great, we had two breakfast scrambles, a burrito, home fries, and chocolate milk, and all of it scored a 5/5. But here's the important part: their food hygiene needs a serious upgrade. My waitress brought our drinks out holding them by the rims with her fingers. The busser wiped a chair seat with the same rag he then wiped the tables with. I watched a customer smear the strawberry jam onto their bread that they had already eaten off of and put the spoon back into the jam, which then went to another table. The host touched the silverware by the ends instead of the handle as he put them down. The busser brought out waters to a table, immediately after cleaning up a dirty table. Light with a slightly crisp crunch around the edges. Fruit cup all the best summer fruits peach, plum, watermelon, raspberries, grapes, kiwi. Coffee also good! The waitress? We stopped by Café This Way and really enjoyed the experience. The ambiance is cozy and unique, with bookshelves lining the space and local paintings for sale, which gave it a creative touch. We tried the pomegranate mimosas, which were refreshing. For food, we ordered two omelets (the Howdy Doody and a make-your-own). Both were flavorful and satisfying, though I do wish the onions had been cooked down a bit more. Service was quick, friendly, and very welcoming. Cafe This Way is truly fabulous and very family friendly. We had a great breakfast on a beautiful day and sat outside. There is also indoor seating but we had a larger party which included a 2 and a 4 year old and it was a perfect fall day to sit outside. The adults shared the carafe of pomegranate mimosas which was a great choice. My kids loved the pancakes and all the food was superb. We cleaned our plates. The service was delightful, fast and super friendly. After having a terrible experience at Galyn's in Bar Harbor where the other patrons and staff were so rude to my kids and we left in tears - Cafe This Way was so awesome for a visiting family to the area! The ambiance in the cafe is warm and comforting even on a grey rainy morning. Of all the restaurants in bar harbor, of which granted I have not tried all, this one has been by far my favorite. The blueberry pancakes are by far the best I have eaten not just in Maine, but ever. Also a big fan that the pricing is reasonable in a town that seems hell bent on charging $60 for any item that even looks like it has a blueberry or lobster related menu item. 10/10, I woke up with my tent full of rain and a mild headache, but after this meal I am eager to face the day. read more

The food was just okay...I was excepting something more/better based on the reviews. The blueberry pancakes were good, I enjoyed the crispy edges and the soft inside. I had poached eggs and there was a significant amount of water left in the dish and the potatoes were AWEFUL they were small tasteless squares...after 2-3 they went untouched on the plate. The parking it also a little weird, the sign points you to drive down the alley to where prove residences surround the cafe, but once there you cannot park and will be told to turn around and find street parking...in a not so nice manner. There is better breakfast in BH and you won't get the stink eye for following the signs. read more

Disappointed! Man...we were up early for the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain. After freezing our butts off, we were hoping for some hot coffee and tasty breakfast. We DID get hot coffee, and the service was great, but the food definitely fell short. I had a scramble with peppers and onions and some home fries, my husband got one blueberry pancake, one egg, and a side of the corn beef hash- nothing was BAD, but nothing was good? All the food had an odd aftertaste (oil issue?), the eggs, hash, and home fries were all bland/not crispy. The pancake was solid, above-average, but we were hoping for more. We had other tasty meals in Bar Harbor that weekend, and would look elsewhere for breakfast next time. read more

Bottom Line: Casual welcoming atmosphere, great food and attentive staff. My husband and I went to Café this Way for breakfast in late May and really enjoyed it. They have indoor seating and a little patio. We chose to sit inside since it was a bit chilly and breezy. I had the Country Breakfast with eggs, pancakes, sausage, homefries and sourdough toast. My husband had The Usual which is the same as the country breakfast sans the pancakes. My husband and I shared my pancakes which were thin, almost crepe like, and super tender. The sausage was good and the homefries were nice and crispy. Something I really liked about Café This Way is the warm and charming interior. It definitely had a bit of an art-sy coffee shop vibe. Also, I like the flowerbeds out front too. I can tell the owner puts a good bit of care into their flowerbeds. Service was attentive and friendly. A very cute little cafe in downtown Bar Harbor with plenty of seating inside and outside and great service! Chose "cafe this way," as our early start breakfast before getting back on the road to head down to our next stop, Portland, and was very pleased with my pick. This was awesome brunch place for our trip to Acadia National Park in Maine. It is on the street where there are number of restaurants but this was way awesome. We loved the omelettes, blueberry pancakes (super thin, crispy and awesome real maple syrup), a cappuccino for that price is uncommon to see. The ambiance is cool with a feel of family library or living room. The place was just calling for staying a bit longer.. I wish we get a chance to visit Maine again and we will definitely look this on up. The sign is hard to miss and name is a nice play on location which is a bit inside from the road. The service was quick and awesome and we were able to order more and they brought out more food quickly. read more

We came here on a Wednesday morning around 9:30AM and were able to be seated right away outside. Our server was excellent and took care to accommodate the allergies in our party and make recommendations. The food came out FAST and was very tasty. I ordered a choose your own scramble, my partner had a breakfast burrito, and the other members of our party had scrambles and eggs benedict. I'd definitely come back if I were in the area again. After a short wait we were ushered in past a very friendly host. The ambience was warm and inviting. We sat in a corner with books in the wall - which we immediately investigated. While the restaurant was full we sat and easily had conversations. We ordered blueberry pancakes, an egg scramble - "the Howdy Doody" - eggs, French toast, and home fries. The Howdy Doody was delicious, flavorful and buttery. The French Toast and pancakes were perfectly crispy and incredibly buttery. You will always have plenty of butter here! The home fries were light and had a great potato taste that was as not at all oily. The scrambled eggs were light and airy not overly mixed. The coffee was good. Cafe This Way is a cafe down one of the alleys in Bar Harbor. It has ample indoor and outdoor seating split across two sides of the little alleyway. It's a pretty popular place, so they seem to usually have a waiting list that you can put your name on. My girlfriend and I showed up around noonish on a Sunday in late September. We didn't have to wait too long for an indoor table and there were a lot of other free tables inside. Outside was a different story though. Service was fast and everyone was friendly. Food came out super fast and drinks as well. Food: - The Harney - corned beef hash, two poached eggs, Hollandaise sauce, sourdough toast. I'm a big sucker for corned beef hash and I thought the combo with Hollandaise eggs was interesting. Pretty fulfilling dish in my opinion since I love runny eggs as well. - Blueberry Pancakes with syrup - Pancakes were thin and more crispy than fluffy. A little bit different than your normal flapjack. I kind of like this style more than the big fluffy ones. Blueberries weren't too sweet and just added a touch of syrup to each bite. Subbed a side of homefries and they were a little overdone and needed salt. Overall, really solid place that is efficient, friendly, and provides high quality food. We loved Cafe This Way! They may be hidden off of Maine Street but it was surprisingly very big with ample indoor/outdoor seating. We went here after the Cadillac Mountain sunrise tour at 6:30am and the staff was very attentive with coffee constantly flowing and serving food extremely quickly. The eggs scrambled were very flavorful and hearty, the hashbrowns were strong, and the blueberry pancake was so good with the local maple syrup - definitely a must get even just to share with the table. This was the best breakfast we had in Maine, we ordered eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon, eggs with corn beef hash, French toast with sausages and pancake with eggs which came with a special Maine maple syrup. Stoped by for a bite after a sunrise hike to summit Cadillac Mountain. The cafe is tucked away right off the village green in bar harbor, and offers a wonderful menu of sweet and savory treats. Everyone from host to our server was cheery and helpful, and made us feel welcome in the area. Our waitress even gave us some great recommendations for places to swim in the area. For the food: our party tried two of the specials-- the ploughman's plate and the peach pancakes, as well as an egg scramble. The plate was described as a savory Maine breakfast charcuterie board, and was curated perfectly for the morning: fresh Maine blueberries, sharp cheddar cheese, hard boiled eggs and sausages. The pancakes were divine-- almost as thin as crepes but as fluffy and airy and flavored as pancakes. The egg scramble was hearty and warm and filling, and served with perfectly fresh vegetables folded inside.
