For the steak sandwich, they added some type of aioli that was a bit overpowering--it was so strong that you couldn't really taste the steak, just the garlic aioli. The turkey sandwich, on the other hand, was well assembled and flavorful. The burger was probably the best item we tried. The fried pickles were a little oily, as were the fries. It seems this place has been recognized by quite a few food folks, and I can see why. I'll definitely come back, and now that I'm familiar with how they build their sandwiches, I'll just request a bit less of the toppings next time.

I thought well maybe the flavor is an explosion. So we dive in just to be hit with bland dry meat bits!! It was so disappointing and as you see in the pictures what we got isn't even comparable to what they show online. The sandwiches were so bad we ended up stopping and grabbing a sandwich at Burger King immediately after. BURGER KING!!! I want to think i expected to much but when you look at the side by side I was robbed. I reached out on social media and they didn't respond. I DID NOT want to write a bad review and actually waited a while before posting because it hurt so bad to do so.

In a previous review I had given the highest of accolades to Cafe Urbano, but on more recent visits I have been sorely disappointed. The waitstaff seems grumbly and as though they would rather be doing something else, particularly the pretty Latina who works behind the counter and always seems to have a sour face. Also, the coffee which was advertised as Metropolis I believe to be another brand (Folgers perhaps) as it lacked the smoky warmth I associate with the Metropolis brand. I could be that the beans were just not fresh, but I know good coffee when I taste it (check out Backlot over on Irving and Kedvale). The food while still very tasty is overpriced, how is a panini with a small side salad, a bag of chips and a cup of coffee over $20.00? Maybe in the loop, but not over in the middle of the Elston industrial area. Re-brand, recommit, and re-open with a new attitude and new promotions or I doubt this place will last. read more

This place is amazing, been here a few times. Fresh soups made from scratch. Service is great and the space has great vibes. They also have a selection of great Breakfast Burritos that you must try. If you have an appetite I would also suggest the Cheddar Butter Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich. Cheddar Butter biscuit also made from scratch, with choice of chorizo, sausage and bacon egg and cheese mmmmmm. Or just in a mode for a refreshing cold essprsso drink? Try an Horchata latte. The horchata is also made in a traditional mexican style. Not that can or gallon stuff. I can tell the difference. with my favorite espresso from colectivo. We visited Cafe Urbano to grab some coffee after indulging in some carb-heavy Filipino pastries, and it did not disappoint! We ordered a Horchata Latte and an iced Small Chagaccino with almond milk. The Horchata Latte was a delightful blend of creamy sweetness and cinnamon, perfectly balanced. The Chagaccino, a mushroom coffee, was surprisingly rich and smooth, with the almond milk adding a nice touch. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, enhanced by the beautiful paintings from local artists available for purchase. It added a unique, artistic touch to the cafe. The only reason for not giving a full five stars is that the service was a bit slow, but the quality of the drinks more than made up for it. We'll definitely be back! read more

Since several of the longtime baristas left, the café has gone noticeably downhill. I don't blame them for leaving--it's common to see a single barista taking orders, preparing drinks, and making food all at once. As a result, wait times have increased significantly, especially if you order food, so be prepared to wait. My first major concern was with food safety. I watched a barista prepare my bagel directly on a countertop he had just wiped with a brown, soaked rag that had been dipped in murky, soapy water. The counter was still visibly wet when he placed my bagel on it. I politely asked if he could remake it, and he became visibly frustrated before tossing the replacement bagel toward me. Their rewards program is also unnecessarily confusing. On one visit, a barista refused to honor my free pastry reward. After trying to explain it, I eventually gave up and asked for a refund. I was quickly dismissed and told I'd have to wait several days because there wasn't a manager on site who could process it. The customer service has declined considerably, and the food has always been overpriced for the quality. If you're looking for great coffee in the area, I'd recommend Avondale Coffee Club instead. The coffee is consistently excellent, and the baristas are always friendly and welcoming.

Everything we ordered was fresh, made to order, and tasted great. The cashier was also very helpful in answering our questions because like another review mentioned, the menu doesn't include many descriptions. My friend ordered the chilaquiles burrito. The description was unclear so he took a risk, but he ended up loving it. I ordered the tuna melt after confirming with the cashier that everything was freshly made and it was fantastic. The tuna had the perfect balance of veggies and mayo, the cheddar cheese was melted perfectly, and the bread was grilled just right before adding the tuna. It was exactly what I'd been craving. For two people, including a tip, the total came out to $34. This is amazing for the area where many places can easily run you $60 or more for food alone. Overall, I hope this place sticks around. If they continue making fresh food and keep their prices fair, I think they have a great chance of succeeding. We already made plans to come back. Definitely stop by and treat yourself to some fresh, hot food.
