So happy to have this spot in the neighborhood! It's right on the corner and there's street parking around plus a free (small) lot behind the building. The first thing I look for at a breakfast spot is flavored creamer. They delivered! The next is a variety of both savory and sweet items - another check! The reason for the above is because I like a little bit of both for my breakfast order. As such, I got the 2-2-2 Special: 2 pancakes (or waffles), 2 pieces of sausage (or bacon), and 2 eggs. My boyfriend went for the meat lovers skillet! The food came out quickly and the servers were very attentive at filling up our coffee cups, which we appreciated. We are always on the hunt for a breakfast spot and decided to give this one a try today. It's pretty small. We grabbed the last vacant seat and after us there ended up being a bit of a wait. The table behind us was so close that I had to keep my chair really pushed in. That being said, the service was friendly and the food was good. They have fresh jalapeños which are infinitely better than canned. I had the meatlovers omelette and my husband had the meatlovers skillet. I think next time I'll go skillet as I thought that was better. They're both huge and a good sized portion. I really wanted to like this place. I ordered an omelette and some Chilaquiles. Omelette was burned and I ordered my hash browns crispy deff not crispy. The chilaquiles were dry no sour cream which I thought came with it they do give you big portion I hope so for 16 dollars for just the chilaquiles! I placed my order but with 3-5 min I needed to make a change in my order, but was told "I already put your order in , don't think I can make any changes" The food was good, however as we were getting done, the waitress came back to the table and said to the 4 other women and I., " ladies I have to ask you to leave, we are getting busy ." We were all shocked to be told that we had to leave, it was not busy and there were other tables empty and no one was in line waiting to be seated. We were not disruptive or creating any problems . we found this behavior inappropriate and disrespectful not to mentioned felt humiliated. This place is a cute neighborhood joint for breakfast, brunch, and diner food. The staff is friendly and down to earth and all the signs and posters and decorations they have around the place is quirky and fun. It's a very relaxing and chill atmosphere. That being said, to me it really is a place to go to if you lived in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here as I found most of the food average. It wasn't bad, but it was standard food as was the coffee. Decent prices and portions. You can tell the customers are close with the staff because they're all super friendly with each other. This is a great hidden gem in the neighborhood! We searched on Yelp to find a good breakfast spot because we got in very early from our flight and stumbled upon City Cafe. We were greeted very promptly by the waiter and we got some drinks and ordered pretty quick. The decor in the restaurant is all Cubs. Just what you would expect in Chicago. It felt nice and like home and we were excited for our food. The food came and they were VERY generous portion sizes (who doesn't love that?). We both got skillets. Mine was the Denver Skillet with scrambled eggs and his was the Meat Lovers Skillet with egg whites. Both were fantastic and the side pancakes were everything you could have wished for in a fluffy pancake. Great mom and pop neighborhood cafe but they like to change their prices. First time on my route and using their facilities everytime. I ordered a bagel and cream cheese. Total was $2.21. Tipped $.79 Awesome 5 stars. Second order bacon, egg, cheese bagel to go. Total was $9.58. I was like dang, 3 times the price than the McDonald around the corner. 3rd time they ring the order up as TOAST for a bagel and cream cheese. Then charge me $3.58. I don't mind the upcharge just to see his much they charge me the next time. I understand why they don't advertise the menu so they can control the pricing especially with the cutting edge clover POS system. Not a fan of the ever changing prices but I understand they are competing with McDonald's and Wendy's down the street. I can easily go somewhere besides city cafe to use their restroom for $1. We ordered our food, got our drinks, and our food came out quickly. It amounts to an "Eh, it's okay." However, the menu is really, super average. Nothing special. Pretty cheap. Not special enough to be my new go-to favorite place. So, that's a 3-star rating. I knocked off another star because it took us about 15 minutes to get a check, and another 5 to find someone to take our money. The service before we got our food was quick and attentive. I have been here 6 times already. I never had any complaints during my visits. The cafe is located right on Pulaski road and the parking is behind the building. It is better if you take the turn before or after the actual turn because it is opposite direction, so you have to make a circle to use the parking lot. So far I have tried all the omelettes, the fried chicken, the steak skillet and the waffle. They were all really good. I especially want to mention that the portion are good. The avocado omelette and the steak skillet were the best. The quality of the skillet was above my expectation and there was plenty of meat in it. Both the skillet and the omelettes are served with pancakes. Pancakes are better than what they serve in ihop. The prices are relatively cheaper comparing to the other diners in the area. The service is friendly. I think if they keep sticking to the basics and what they do, they will continue their success. This restaurant does not handle its customers in a timely and efficient way. Its 10:43 am, Friday morning, with one couple customers, (finishing eating), and one single person dining in. I placed my order, (2 submarine SANDWICHES and 2 fries), and was told 10 minutes for pick-up. The sandwiches were not ready for pick-up upon arriving. PEDRO (the chef?) said that the fries were being made fresh and to wait another 10 minutes for my order. At this point I just requested the sandwiches only. Pedro added that it would still take 10 minutes. Im completely baffled of the waiting around period with almost NO CUSTOMERS. Finally its 10:58am and I had to request a refund receipt for bad customer handling. This restaurant follows a bad business practice. Hello my Foodzies, keeping with my Groupon payback theme we visited 2 different restaurants. First is Victoria's at 2080 n Mannheim rd in Melrose Park. Large mom and pop family restaurant nestled in the middle of a Super 8 motel. The interior is old and outdated but clean. When we arrived the sign said wait to be seated and even though there were plenty of seats available we ended up waiting as waitstaff passed us without acknowledgement. Finally we were seated. The waitress was friendly, she wasn't one of them that ignored us. She was busy yet attentive. We placed our order and received it in a timely manner. Glenda had the avocado and Swiss omelette, it was nice size the ratio of the cheese to avocado was drastically off. A bunch of cheese and a slight amount of avocado. It was a little bland. I chose a vegetarian skillet which has been my choice throughout Lent. It also was plentiful and cooked well but again needed more seasoning. All in all I give this restaurant 2 1/2 stars. Groupon has a 25% return of what you spent so it takes some of the sting out. Second was also a Groupon restaurant. This on was a lot better experience. This was the City Cafe located at 3234 n Pulaski Rd in Chicago. A nice quiet Cub friendly restaurant. Warm and inviting employees, clean and comfortable. On today's visit Glenda ha Chilaquiles it was an egg dish with tortilla chips, rice and seasoned beans. A well balanced meal. I chose the Vegetarian skillet of course. It was awesome, plenty of vegetables, could use a little more cheese and I would have liked it a little spicier (just my taste) it was well seasoned though. I give this restaurant 4 1/2 stars. Such a fantastic local spot! I love that it's a warm and welcoming neighborhood cafe with its own parking lot and everything. For the amount and quality of food you get, the prices are fantastic. The pancakes are perfectly sized and fluffy, the avocado omelet is loaded with tons of avocado and other ingredients, and yesterday I finally tried the chilaquiles... best I've ever had and in amazing green sauce. This place was great! Stopped in because reviews. It's a very homie down to earth atmosphere! Small and a bit crowded but that's fine. Service was super friendly! I had the steak skillet and my husband had the double cheese burger. It did take a while to get our food, about half hour. But server apologized and said they were short staffed. Portion sizes were huge! I barely put a dent in mine. The burger was cooked perfectly and fries were crispy! Skillet was full of meat and veggies rather then just potatoes like some places do. Very overpriced breakfast that is about the same you'd get at any other breakfast place. The servers are wonderful but you can clearly see they don't have enough cooks in the back to get the food out. We waited about an hour to get our food. (Table of 6). City Cafe is a place that's between Hermosa and Avondale. I'm not sure who thinks this is in Logan Square, but it's definitely not. That said, I consider this place to be in Hermosa and therefore part of my neighborhood brunch repertoire. We come here every few months and the food is always delicious. I've never had to wait for a table, even with a group of four. They're busy but not spectacularly so. The breakfast here is typical diner short order fare plus some Mexican options to satisfy multiple tastes. The chilaquiles are a great order (I like red, personally) and the corned beef hash is always tasty. Inexpensive, to boot. Coffee is always warm and they refill often. There's plenty of available street parking on Pulaski and the side street to the south of City Cafe. I'll keep coming here for breakfast since it's inexpensive, the service is always friendly, and there's never a wait. read more
