Ordered a Meatball sub and a Margherita pizza. The Meatball sub was just ok, but the pizza was horrible. My friend recommended this place for pizza, but we didn't eat more than one slice. My daughter, who loves pizza, said it was worse than her school lunch pizza and wouldn't eat it either after taking a bite. What a sad excuse for a Margherita pizza, see pic. The Margherita should be a staple for a pizza shop - especially Italian - just like brisket is for a BBQ joint. Take some pride in your work folks or get out of the business. Cafe Verdi is a great restaurant located in the trolley square area of Wilmington. The staff are very friendly and provided great service. This was my first time trying them out for restaurant week. The dinner option included 3 courses for $35. I went with the Chipotle bisque shrimp soup and it was absolutely delish ! There was a generous amount of shrimp as well as a tiny quick of heat. I went with the grilled romaine for my second course. The salad was served with crispy prosciutto and a balsamic glaze. The shaved Parmesan added the perfect finish to the dish. I wanted to have high hopes for the salmon but was left disappointed. The salmon was layered by a roasted red pepper coulis but had a weird consistency. The scallops lacked flavor. Although the last dish was a let down, I definitely would give this place another try. read more

My husband and I came across this place randomly. We decided to give it a shot and WOW, we were impressed! The service was great, the environment was welcoming, and the food was amazing! We ordered cheesy bread for an appetizer, the Parma personal pizza, and the Alfredo with chicken (chicken is an extra charge).Everything was delicious and the sizes were way bigger than what we expected. Since my last review, I have tried 2 other things. First, a slice of pizza. My frame of reference, NYC pizza, makes it unfair of me to rate the pizza but let's just say I will not get one again until home for a visit. I have tried several places for pizza and I now hive up! Second, I ordered the pappardelle alfredo with chicken to go. It cane with good bread. But for $24, I received overcooked pasta floating in warm cream with a small handful of chicken pieces that amounted to maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of a chicken breast filet. I added good parmesan and salt & pepper at home but it didn't help. I expected a larger portion for $24... that I would have leftovers. I did not. Alfredo sauce is supposed to have a thick consistency. This was literally warmed up cream. I perhaps should have said I wanted the pasta al dente but assumed an Italian restaurant would know that's how pasta should be served. I don't like giving interviews like this. read more

Had lunch at Cafe Verdi. Loved this restaurant! Everyone really liked their meals. I had chicken Cesar salad & side dish of vegetables Italian style. It was outstanding. Really wish I could eat pizza at present but can't. It looked really good! Quality of food was outstanding & prices were very reasonable. Will definitely go back when I'm in that area. My wife & I took our daughter to Cafe Verdi to celebrate her birthday because it was near a venue where a friend of her's was performing. It was our 1st time eating there. The chef Joe was sitting near our table and came over and talked about that night's special and answered questions about other options. My wife & I got the special and our daughter another dish. Our meals were delicious and each of us had enough left over to take home for another meal. Prices were reasonable. Definitely going back to Cafe Verdi again! read more

My new favorite spot in Trolley! Everything I have tried is amazing. The pizza is the best I've had in Wilmington and maybe even across the state. The sandwiches are superb and the rolls they come on are amazing. Staff is very friendly and welcome. 5-Star review on the cannoli only. This place should be known for cannolis and I don't think I've seen a review mentioning these amazing treats yet! I wish I could say more about the menu but we only stopped in for dessert. The shell was crisp and traditional like that of a homemade cannoli. Maybe even a hint of cinnamon in the shell? The filling was creamy (not gritty at all!) and spiced with the perfect amount of cinnamon & allspice! They did not skimp on the filling either! The ricotta was so smooth, rich, and delicate. The small chocolate chips were perfectly proportioned through the filling... I could have eaten a dozen of these. Be sure to stop in and try a cannoli! read more

Our waitress barely spoke English so she got multiple orders wrong. One order she got right came out almost completely uncooked. More than half of the chicken cutlet was pink inside. We got very little sympathy from the staff for the wrong orders and under cooked food. The tiramasu tasted like tiramasu flavored sand and the chicken parm sandwichwas about 1.5 soggy chicken fingers in Prego sauce on a 10 inch roll. Pick somewhere else to eat. read more

Stromboli was dry and hard, pizza looked ok, one person enjoyed their food which was the chicken parm and the cheesecake that wasn't made in house. I however had the crab bisque which was tomato bisque with crab meat in it. And then on to the shrimp and crab over zucchini noodles. The sauce was ok others said was bland. Zucchini was good but all the crab meat from the soup and this fish had shells throughout. Not full shells just the thin almost unnoticeable if the rest of the food had texture. On a busy Friday night before a holiday weekend, we ordered a mini Hawaiian pizza and a pepperoni Stromboli for pick-up. When we got home, we realized that the Hawaiian pizza was actually just a plain cheese, so we called back to see if there was a mix-up, and to let them know we got the wrong order. They quickly offered to make us the Hawaiian at no extra charge if we were willing to come back. We love their pizza either way, but decided to head back for the correct order. They were apologetic and made us the pizza right away. We've always had wonderful costumer service here whether dining in, or taking out, and will always recommend it to our friends or family who stay in the area! This Italian place is an inconspicuous treasure nestled in a small mall strip of trolley square. My friend & I were looking for a bite to eat quickly & decided to stop in. Oh boy were we greatly surprised. Our pizzas were ooooh so mouth watering- freshness in every bite. The proprietor was soo personable & accommodating. Wildly inconsistent to the point of frustration. Verdi is a restaurant that I want to love. It's a local joint within walking distance and the only true Italian place in Trolley Square. We've been regulars over years but recently...ugh. I'm just fed up with it. You can order the same dish three times and have three completely different experiences. Sometimes it's great, sometimes there are ingredients missing and sometimes the food will be so bland that you'll want to fall asleep in your pollo. I was promised tarragon! I shouldn't have to pay $16 for a dish and add my own! And speaking of prices, apparently everything just went up about three bucks per plate over the past few months while the quality has just taken a nosedive. Shameful. Some quick dish reviews from our last visit: Pappardelle con Funghi e Salciccia - roughly translated to pasta with mushrooms and fatty sausage. Save your $17 and just get some Jimmy Dean links and a bottle of cooking sherry for the same experience. Pollo with Sundried Tomatoes & Artichokes - see above. One of the ingredients was a complete lie. Bolognese Anything - pretty much mac & cheese with bits of hot dog. Yes that's an exaggeration but the flavor profile is spot on. So yeah, this is a place I used to love but has slid downhill over the years at an alarming rate. This used to be a great place. When I moved to Forty Acres years ago, I was thrilled to have great Italian food so close to me. The veal, the gnocci, everything was out of this world. Now the food is not that good. Pizza has declined in quality over the last couple years. Calamari is always soggy. The pasta and sauces are just so-so. Now for the reason I will NEVER return. I placed a phone order. I was told twenty minutes. I went to pick it up and got there 25 minutes after my call. I had to wait another 15 minutes. The restaurant was not that busy. The man who rung me up and barely spoke English hovered over me while I signed my slip, to the point that I was uncomfortable. When he saw the tip line had a zero on it, he huffed very loudly and gave me a dirty look like he wanted to fight or something. If I was classless like him, I might have been upset and lost sleep over it. But knowing I will never, ever return to this horrible place actually just made it quite funny. And when I got my food home, it was again just bland and boring. I do not recommend this place at all anymore. A year ago, I might have. Two years ago I always did. Now I recommend you avoid the average food and horrible, horrible service and lack of basic human manners and respect at all cost. read more

Happened into this unassuming, great little New York-style pizzeria for a quick lunch recently and was an instant fan. Thin, delicious crust, cheese pizza just like any respectable NY pizza joint, 'foldable' slices, original NY-style pizza. Dining area is spacious with tableside service after 5, you get free refills on soda and like most, REAL pizzerias, you have your choice of ordering an entire pie or selecting individual slices from several varieties at the buffet-style counter. Pizza doesn't get any better than this, especially Wilmington. No doubt the best pizza in town if not the Delaware Valley. Molto magnifica! read more

I have been to Cafe Verdi a few times in the past and I always thought they had good food. I haven't been in a few years and went today for lunch. I ordered a slice of buffalo chicken pizza, a tossed salad (the prepared one sitting in a pan), and a small fountain soda. To my suprise the total was $11.50!!! WTF for a slice and a small tossed salad and a drink? The pizza wasn't even that good. This place has some nerve to charge $4-5 dollars for a slice of pizza and $4-5 dollars for a small salad. Surprisingly satisfied for living in a city with not many pizza options. Ordering online was easy, service was quick and friendly for a Sunday night during an Eagles game! They at least put in a little more effort than Ciao...the pizza is below average (that seems the norm for Wilmington) but they look like they try and care. I have a tough time discerning what is holding the pizza back from being good or great, but I'm leaning towards the sauce. It's sweet, but I think it may be blandness rather than sweetness that is the issue (maybe it's too thin too, though that would make too sweet an odd thing to be). The pizza here is amazing. Ciao pizza across the street taste like junky papa johns comparatively. I have never had anything else, "but if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Although, my family commented it tasted a little salty. I didn't notice it, but I usually use a lot of salt. I would have given 5 stars but they overcharge on toppings. $2 a pop is gouging your customer after they ordered one topping already. We had 4 so the pizza was $12 and charged $8 for toppings on top of that. That's a poor way to do things. read more

I ordered in advance a baked gnocchi anticipating it would be delicious.... When I was awaiting my food one of the main cooks said to me,"Bake Ziti for a cold day YUM".... I said ummm I order the gnocchi..... He than replied "ah Mama Mai ok ok"......5 minutes later than hand me my bag of food and we parted ways... I came home and crack a beer sat down in my comfy outfit and open my box to complete sadness...and.... disappointment...It looked like something out of the movie the blob; it was if half baked ziti/half gnocchi created a child ... I usually get the same dish, Baked Gnocchi, and it has been different the past three times and the portion is getting smaller too. Just WAY too much cheese in top & the order is lukewarm by the time I get it home( I like less than a block away) today's order had no bread included & was so nasty I threw it away after trying just a few bites :-( read more
