The clear front runner for best breakfast burrito in the neighborhood. It's cozy with good vibes and friendly service, though veers a bit pricy. Still, for reliably great food and coffee, it's worth a little extra to go to a unique local Mom & Pop.
What an absolutely delightful spot for breakfast in LIC. The moment you walk in, you feel like you're in someone's home kitchen - the staff are all very kind and the environment feels warm and welcoming. The chilaquiles are probably amongst some of the best I've ever had. Most certainly worth the trip to LIC to have them. Highly recommend!
This space is small but homey & is known for their chilaquiles. I got a pickup order of the chilaquiles torta. Albeit it was inevitable for the chilaquiles' tortilla chips to get soggy as they were inside of the torta, it was still tasty and a gigantic portion as well. I'd go back for the chilaquiles!
Came back for a pickup order. I had to call on Sunday to make an order for 4:45pm because they close at 5pm on Sundays and the apps weren't allowing orders after 4pm. Got breakfast burritos and tacos governadors again. I got the green sauce chilaquiles with Pastor with pineapple with a 50 upcharge. Not my favorite with the soggy tortilla chips. There is now a 3% credit card upcharge. They also strangely have higher prices on their website vs Uber and such. But I called to put an order and that was the regular price.
We were very impressed with the food. It feels like a local intimate joint - it's decorated with lots of color and art. We got the breakfast burrito and chilaquiles which was covered in green sauce. It was delicious. The burrito is pressed in a panini press and the chilaquiles were great with the runny egg. The woman was super friendly here! Good service, casual place to meet with friends.
Love this charming spot. Beautiful experience, lovely knowledgeable service and the food matches the wonderful vibe. The quesadilla was definitely scratch made and tasted like love on a plate. Highly recommend.

I was in the New York area in January 2025. Looked for a place on Yelp for breakfast nearby and found Cafe Xochimilco. There was a review where someone said they were a Los Angeles native, and this place exceeded her expectations. Okay, I said. That sounds like legit Mexican food, not Mexican American food. My friend (Venezuelan American) and I headed over. I tried the following: - Huevos con Salsa Verde (Eggs with Green Sauce) - Flan (for Dessert) Food was delicious! Service was friendly (and they speak Spanish)! Ambiance is casual! ENJOY!
If you're on the hunt for authentic Mexican food, don't let the unassuming exterior of this little hole-in-the-wall fool you! This place may not look like much, but once you step inside and taste the food, you'll realize you've struck gold. I tried their chicken green enchiladas, and wow, they were incredible! The enchiladas were super saucy, which I absolutely love. The green salsa had just the right amount of spice--enough to give it a kick without overpowering the flavors. The grilled chicken was a fantastic surprise; it's different from the usual shredded chicken you find elsewhere, and it really elevated the dish. I also tried the red chilaquiles, and those were a hit too! They had a great spice kick. The only hiccup was the steak--I ordered it medium, but it arrived well done. A little room for improvement there, but it didn't overshadow the overall experience. This place serves up delicious, authentic Mexican food, feels just like home away from home, If you appreciate real Mexican cuisine, I highly recommend checking it out. You won't be disappointed!
This is my 4th time coming here and they never disappoint. It's so good, very authentic Mexican food. I typically get the Mexican breakfast (huevos con chorizo) sooooo good. Everyone is very sweet here and attentive. During the weekends it gets pretty packed so go with time. As far as the ambiance, it's a very cutesy place. Go to place for sure when I'm in Astoria! Love supporting mom and pop places.
this is the best chilaquiles in the world. end of story. the food: i got the green sauce chilaquiles with al pastor. the meat is so flavorful and tender, the chips say somehow crispy while soaking in all that amazing green sauce. this is a 10000/10! the avocado salad is also super elevated, fresh and delicious and the SAUCE is so good. burrito also comes panini pressed which takes it to the next level! the space: semi small inside but def a few tables! the service: SO nice and kind!

We did have to ask twice for our beverage, but that's a small price to pay for greatness. I got the green sauce chilaquiles with eggs, and it was a great way to start my day. Casual, bright vibe.

I cannot say I was expecting the food to be this damn good out of a seemingly random Mexican place that just happened to be near where we were. I hadn't seen Tacos Gobernador on any Mexican restaurant menu before. These are sinaloan-style tacos, stuffed with the fresh shrimp abundant in the region. This is the second time I'm saying this in the first four sentences, but these were amazing. First of all - they were huge! Way larger than normal tacos, these tortillas stretch across the plate. The outsides are perfectly crisped up - these are kind of a mix between a soft & hard shell taco, but incorporating the best of both worlds. The amount of oil used in the grilling is perfect. What really makes these though, is the fillings. The shrimp is unbelievable - first of all, its the largest shrimp I've ever seen inside a taco. I mentioned how large these tacos are, but the shrimp bursts out of the top like a xenomorph out of a chest; there's little containment to be had here. These shrimp are seasoned astoundingly, turning practically a dark red from the spices used. Oh yeah, and the juiciness is just perfect. They are so well cooked. The other outstanding part is the cheese. The Oaxacan cheese is special - it's some of the best cheese I've ever had on a taco. Hot, soft, and stretchy with a perfect level of melting, it adds a crazy amount of flavor to each bite. The other toppings are solid, but some more onions would've helped I think. Also, the dipping sauce used is around average, and unnecessary. This was kind of expensive for 3 tacos - coming in at $25 before tax and tip. It was a ton of food though. Cute little breakfast spot right between LIC and Astoria. Not a lot of seats but they tend to free up quickly. Food was delicious and came in large portions. Service was quick and the staff are super kind. There was a family with a toddler and they did everything to make sure they were accommodated, and that the kid was entertained. read more

Food - Big portions! - Someone in my group got the torta and had nothing but great things to say about it - I had the chilaquiles which was also good! Very big portion and shareable between two people if both of y'all aren't that hungry - Leche flan wasn't bad! I liked that it wasn't overly sweet. Service - Very friendly and attentive! Ambiance - Casual - Lots of seating - Restroom was relatively clean - Good for catching up with friends and large groups! read more

Overall this is a great place for breakfast/lunch, the chilaquiles are worth the hype!! It's a small cafe but it wasn't crowded on a weekday. I believe they'll come take your order from your table but we just ordered at the counter. Chilaquiles were delicious. Chips were actually crunchy and not soft, despite the generous amount of sauce. The al pastor was great, but I wish I had just gotten chorizo or steak. My friend's breakfast burrito looked delicious as well. We both only finished half of our meals. Service was wonderful, super friendly. Only downside it felt like it took forever (~20min) for our food to arrive, but at least it came fresh! read more

Absolutely stunning food, incredible service, and lovely ambiance!!! I was really blown away here. Soft piano music played in this well-lit cafe as my friend and I sat in the corner, creating a peaceful environment for our meal. We started off splitting an order of nachos Al pastor, and they were to DIE for. The meat was fresh and flavorful, perfect amount of all ingredients on top, and the cheese was perfectly melted to create genuinely some of the best if not the best nachos I've ever had. My friend had the burrito and they said it was great, I went for the burger and notably it is a HUGE burger with jalapeños, avocado, and an egg on top. The burger was outstanding, and the fries were excellent as well! Can't say enough good things, will be back for sure. Our server was wonderful. Also, notably, we didn't see horchatas on the menu but asked if they had them and oh boy the horchata was delicious. I find horchatas can often be too sweet and this one had the perfect balance of flavor! read more
This place was amazing! We usually don't venture into this area of LIC as we live a little ways away, but we decided we wanted to go on a walk today and discovered this hidden gem. It looks unassuming from the outside but was moderately lively when we stepped inside around 12p on a Saturday. The first thing we noticed was that lots of locals stop by here. My partner ordered the octopus tostadas and I ordered the salsa verde chilaquiles with eggs and al pastor. I was born and raised in LA while my partner was born and raised in Houston. Let's just say that the food had us wanting more and to come back. It's truly authentic and so yummy! On top of that, our server Cesar (not sure re spelling of name) was welcoming and gave us great suggestions for what to order. He continually checked in on us and even apologized for the food being slow (but we were in no rush and generally understand and enjoy the vibes of places such as these). I am already planning to come back and can't wait to try more of their food! read more
Went here one day while I was in the neighborhood and I was definitely not disappointed. It is a very small but cozy cafe. The server I had that morning was mediocre as I had to keep asking for everything (utensils, water, napkins, sugar for coffee, etc). However, the food here is very legit. It is very fresh, flavorful, and authentic Mexican. Ordered avocado toast (with no egg) - was only one piece of toast. However, the avocado was extremely fresh and flavorful. Also got the huevos con chorizo (eggs with Mexican sausage) which came with rice and beans. It was so flavorful. I was advised the owner is from Mexico City. I highly recommend and would definitely visit again. read more

If you love yourself, eat here and order the green sauce chilaquiles with eggs and pastor meat. We asked the waiter and the verde sauce is homemade. It's such a great flavor, I literally will not be ordering chilaquiles anywhere else from now on because they won't be as good as here. Service is great too. read more

Mexican brunch is the meaning of life. My girlfriend I popped in one weekend and shared an order of chilaquiles with chorizo and the huevos con salsa rojo. The food was spicy and delicious. The restaurant's interior is quaint and wholesome, the service was quick and attentive. In an area saturated with Mexican restaurants, Xochimilco is awesome. I can't wait to try their breakfast burrito, tacos, tortas... I fully believe they can do no wrong. read more

Couldn't have been happier with this super cute cafe. My only complaint was how hard it was to choose from the menu! I came solo but regret not coming with friends so we could share!!
