TL;DR before the tirade: Went in for breakfast, and left with a smile on my face. The Huevos Rancheros were fresh, tasty, and most importantly, something different! Ordinarily, breakfast is a very tough meal for me. I never know what to make to break the monotony, and typically, eating breakfast out is a crime. It seems too many breakfast places take $2.25 of ubiquitous ingredients and charge $12.99 for the same fried eggs and toast you could make at home. I saw a picture of the Huevos Rancheros, and immediately knew this would be something great to break the boring carousel of dairy/meat/starch, or sweets of one kind or another. By themselves, the Huevos Rancheros were nothing revolutionary. But they were so well executed I nearly went for the second time in my four day trip! I liked the fried tortilla as the base, as it made the focus less on bread or potatoes, and threw in a nice amount of crunch. Not to mention it adds a tiny element of novelty. The fried egg was of high quality with the rich amber yolk, and it was topped with a pleasant, mildly (to my taste) spicy sauce which really helped bring a new dimension to the egg. Below the egg was fresh lettuce and pico de gallo, which added a fresh element to the dish, something sorely missing from so many "typical" breakfasts. Around the eggs were a couple wedges of avocado, and while I am not the kind of millennial who goes bonkers over avocado, it's [almost] always welcome. This marvelous assembly was topped with a little bit of what I assume is cotija cheese. Did I mention you get two of these? Then there was the coffee. The regular cream-and-sugar coffee was good. But the Café de Olla is something I will certainly be making for myself now. It's black coffee with sugar and cinnamon, but my gosh is it delicious! Sometimes, good food doesn't have to be revolutionary. It can just be a different interpretation, or really freaking well executed. This was a new interpretation, very well executed, and of a good value. The prices were reasonable for New York City, (I think). read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick spot to grab food on the way to the Museum of Moving Images. Found this on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It's a very small spot with only two seats, it seems more of a to-go/delivery spot. Service was good, but the food took a while to come out since they made it fresh to order. We got their combo breakfast burrito which was really good, one of the few good ones I've had in a while - the tortilla was nice and crispy and the filling to tortilla ratio was great. They also add tater tots which gives it a good crunch to balance out the eggs, cheese, and peppers. The bacon did make a bit salty for me. The bacon egg and cheese on a croissant wasn't for me, as it was a bit on the salty side as well. Overall a solid spot to grab breakfast or lunch! read more

This has been my go-to after coming back from a Mexico trip and being obsessed with café de olla. Been looking for a place here that carries it with good authentic Mexican food too. This place hits the spot and all the dishes I've tried so far have been consistently good. My only issue is their service for delivery can be slow. I've ordered using Uber Eats and have even received messages from the delivery person a couple occasions already, that they've been waiting for a long time (over 30 mins) to get my order. One of them even canceled because she had another delivery to attend to and couldn't wait longer. This place would've been 5 stars otherwise. read more

Outstanding food. Quality, Quantity and Flavor! This by far the craftiest Mexican food around. The Huevos Rancheros are easy to eat despite being on top of a tostada which I hate most of the time. Dishes are well put together and you can tell a lot of thought went into each item. From the outside, a subtle storefront but with a well decorated interior, hints to a place of experimenting, of craft, a place one chef may call his or her workshop. Everything matches the sentiment; from the service treatment to the taste of the food. Don't expect only Mexican dishes either, the selection is quite varied. In fact, I think their shrimp stew platter maybe their best yet, despite not being known to be a Mexican dish. My wife absolutely loves it. And that is saying a lot. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple of bucks on this place. We NEED more places like this in Astoria. Places with an real identity, places that aren't trying to be fancier than needed and not having the food to back them up. Perhaps the key to a 4+ star experience with S2G, at this point, is to dine in...because their delivery game needs a lot of work to be a contender in this area. And their price point on some items would need seriously charming ambiance, awesome service, and plating that masks portion size to be justified. To their credit, I received a call within minutes of them accepting my order to inform me that they didn't have two of the things I ordered. However, being out of two items at 9:45am on a Saturday makes me lift an eyebrow. Order arrived half an hour after the estimated delivery window closed. The Southern Omelette (pictured) was delicious! But came with no potato hash (the hash pictured on Yelp was the sole reason I decided to try them for a couple meals' worth of food...) or toast (so $7.50 for two items missing). How did it not catch someone's eye that a dish was being packaged with only half its content? The Mole Poblano (pictured) made me actually exclaim, "WTF?!" when I saw it. Small full leg, very small portion of cheesy rice that had what appeared to be/tasted like a frozen vegetable medley mixed in, and an just okay sauce. $15 and I was hungry an hour after eating it. I've paid as much in the Theater District (and less throughout the boroughs) for the same dish, but received more generous portioning, and more complex flavor to the sauce. Fortunately, the Cemitas with smoked pork chop was excellent! Though their chef/sous needs to pay better attention to prep, as I bit down on pork chop bone. They're new, and seem to be working to be a competitor with some area long standing brunch and cafe spots. I'm all about supporting new and small businesses, but the quality has to be there for me to do so. May try them again after enough time goes by where the training wheels should be off.....but the jury is out. read more

I was staying at an AirBnB in Astoria, Queens, NYC, so I looked on Yelp for the best breakfast I could get at 6:30am locally. I walked about five blocks to this small store. There were five people ahead of me, so I waited and ordered a cafe latte and a breakfast burrito to eat there. The coffee was a very rich and tasty beverage. The breakfast burrito was full of scrambled eggs and chorizo sausage and was wonderful, just what I wanted before going to work in Manhattan on a cold and wet day. I got chorizo tacos - they were great.My boyfriend got a steak quesadilla - it was also great. I ate all of it for him. And loved it so much I ordered it again just two days later. It's a small spot, not the fastest operation of all time - but hey they're new/small and the food was good enough for the wait. Love this little place! We originally went to Swick 2 for coffee, but when we realized that they serve quality Mexican food, we were hooked. The first time we dined there because I was craving pozole, so I was very pleased to see that they serve traditional Jalisco style that was incredibly delicious; my boyfriend enjoyed the chilaquiles verdes (green sauce). The next time we went, we both ordered the chilaquiles verdes and rojas (red sauce) and that was definitely a positive decision - both sauces are great and everything is made to order. We recently went a few weeks later and realized that it was packed! The restaurant is a small little cafe with limited seating, so I would recommend either beating the breakfast rush on the weekends and get there early, or show up a little later in the afternoon to make sure that seats are available. In addition to their brunch menu, they also serve lunch options and have dulce de leche cake and other pastries and fresh squeezed juices! Whee! read more

SUCH a cute place! Just had one of the best omelettes I've ever had! I got the Southern Omelette with red bell peppers instead of poblano peppers and American cheese. The omelette was SO fresh and full of flavor. My favorite part of the meal was the potato hash that came with the omelette. It was also full of flavor!! Everything was amazing. Iced latte and cold brew coffee were A+ I hate when I order iced latte/coffee and I end up paying $4 for ice. The barista working there told me to let her know if I wanted more ice but honestly she nailed that drink. They were strong in taste and the ice to latte ratio was perfect. I got two overeasy eggs with whole wheat toast and potato hash. The hash brown was tasty, the eggs were average, but the toast was little too hard to chew. My bf had the southwestern omelette with the potato hash as well. He enjoyed his dish but we both wished our toast was softer. For me the hi-light was the coffee here. Will def be coming back to try some of the other items on their menu. read more

Swick2 just opened last week and I was super excited to try out their menu. The first time I went there I ordered a large cappuccino which is not out of the ordinary but was made well (even with a little heart in the froth). The quality of the coffee was great! I also had a chicken tinga tostada which tasted homemade and was delicious. I went back on Monday to have lunch there and I was still impressed. I had a large regular coffee (again not out of the ordinary) but the coffee was fresh and well bodied. For lunch I had a mushroom quesadilla, which was fabulous. I loved the fact they used corn tortillas instead of flour ones. The ingredients were fresh. I was also able to see the chefs prepare my meal and they did it with the utmost of care. This place is a coffee shop but has a lot more to offer. They also have cold brew coffee on tap, which isn't common in this area. The focus is on Mexican fare but you can also get your morning bagel here. The cream cheeses are made fresh and in a variety of flavors. They also offer vegetarian and gluten-free items on the menu. The staff is great. The owner, Juan, has been very hospitable, making you feel like you are walking into his home. Andrew, the barista, is very polite and takes customers' orders with care. As I mentioned before, the chefs also take care is preparing food orders. I would absolutely come back here and would recommend this place to anyone looking for something other than the franchise coffee shops that are around. read more

So basically, awesome food, arrived quickly, will definitely be ordering again to eat the rest of the menu We heard this place opened and decided to give it a shot for breakfast delivery. We were actually pleasantly surprised!!! Ordered an omelet with fries, egg and cheese sandwich (huge btw! Saved half for later. Note it does come slightly runny. So if you like your eggs hard like I do be sure to leave a special note,) and a tinga de pollo quesadilla. The quesadilla has a corn tortilla which was an awesome change from flour, tasted great and not too spicy here. Not only was all our food delicious but it arrives in a cute plastic bag. Everything was packed neatly. Oh and the quesadilla came with a nice thick wax paper on the bottom, not the fragile thin ones you usually get with takeout, so it kept the quesadilla nice and crispy, not soggy like in some other places, and didn't tear into pieces when I cut the quesadilla in half. read more

I live in the building right next door so I come here often. I've tried the cheese quesadilla, mushroom quesadilla, fish tacos, egg white omelette with spinach and huevos rancheros all were AMAZING. I'm a frequent customer even though the prices are a little on the high side but I don't mind paying a little extra for quality. They also have a wife range of fresh juices daily which are all good. THE BEST QUESIDILLAS! Being vegetarian quesadillas can get pretty boring bubjts something about the Mexican cheese and the thick fried tortilla that brings your taste buds to life. This place is a bit pricey but the food taste great. The quadrilles are large and mixing with the sour cream and different hot sauces they give ! The best! I'm also a huge fan of their breakfast! Egg white omelette with toast! Their honey butter is something I've never tried before and try to recreate often! The staff usually this younger boy can be rude. The food took just under 2 hours to be delivered. The person answering the phone originally said 30-35 minutes. After an hour they said 20 more minutes. I called again after waiting the additional 20 minutes and they said it was on its way out the door. I am so excited about this place. We ate a late breakfast there today and it was so good that I need to Yelp it. The coffee is great, Stumptown. I had the chilaquiles and my fiancée had the huevos rancheros. Both were SO tasty and authentic. I love the combo of great Mexican breakfast and strong coffee.
