Food is delicious! We had fried bayou Po Boy & fried gator basket. So good we came back the next day & had the Grilled Bayou Po boy & another gator basket. Day 3 of the week we had Muffuletta sandwich & large (regular) seafood Gumbo. The Sandwich is delicious & Gumbo loaded with seafood and large portion. Food Rivals anything I had in New Orleans. The ambiance is cool too, like an old house, with lots of different options of seating. Beignets are good too & only wish sold them weekdays. Only negative is that they're not open for dinner! Stopped here after flying into Bozeman and it was great! I got a shrimp po' boy, friends got fried chicken po' boy and the creole chicken philly with shoestring fries. The staff was very friendly and helpful in our menu decision-making process and service was prompt. It's not exactly a traditional sit-down restaurant but all the food was great and the casual atmosphere of the restaurant doesn't deter from how enjoyable of an experience it was! My sister found this spot for us. Unexpected find in Montana. Very delicious. Crawfish etoufee is buttery. Jambalaya is full of flavor. Because the food is so good make sure you reserve a lot of time if you plan to come here before your flight. The food took 30 mins on a Thursday at lunch. The woman taking your order will let you know wait time on the food before accepting payment. Could be longer on a weekend. It's a large restaurant, plenty of parking and seating: indoors, outdoors, at the bar. This place is great value. You get a lot of food and you will leave full. Had the Fried Oyster Po Boy. The bread was amazing and the oysters were nicely fried and good sized. Loved it so much, I went back the next day and ordered another one along with their seafood gumbo. We tried to find local dishes that Montana is known for and a few local folks we talked to only mention huckleberry and chuckled there's no other dishes the state is known for so I opted to try Cajun, taking me back to my roots. The restaurant is close to Montana State University and it quaint and quite charming with an outdoor patio. The cashier was very friendly. The owner is from Abbeviille, Louisiana which is smack in the middle of Cajun Country. The menu seems legit and we ordered the fried banana pudding fir dessert along with the seafood gumbo and catfish platter. Food cane out and it looks good but I was disappointed that the catfish wasn't fried and it was grilled instead. It taste ok and I think would have taste better if it was fried instead. The seafood gumbo was their popular dish but I was underwhelmed by it. Honestly, the gumbo I make back home taste better. For Montana, the food is good enough but this place can not compete with the restaurants back in Louisiana. Service is friendly and prices are reasonable for small town Monta though. I would definitely go here over the other restaurants I saw on Yelp as those serve the same standard American fare. read more

This place doesn't compare to the real New Orleans style food. Had the gumbo and it lacked flavor and was watery. Had some nice pieces of seafood but really not enough of anything. The etouffe tasted more buttery than having a nice rouge. Had a nice amount of crawfish though. We lived in Louisiana for several years, so going to Cafe Zydeco is like a warm hug from the past. I almost exclusively order the seafood gumbo - it is superb. It is served with a side of soft garlic bread for dipping! Shrimp and grits is also another favorite. Lots of seating and you are able to spread out. We love this place! Don't miss the fresh beignets ( powdered donuts), served up fresh on Saturday and Sunday! read more

Food is great - I'm from Nawlins and its better Creo-Cajun than the actual source (504 boi grew up off St. Charles about a block from the old Belfort mansion) and that's sayin something. all gooooood but very slow when I was in tonight, and it was a Friday night post COVID Bozeman so every other place slammed. I can't count that against the star rating, cause it just made it quicker service. i just hope they relocate because the food is way too good to board up. read more

Being from bayou country, seeing Cajun food outside of Acadiana is usually an exercise in disappointment. In this case, I was pleasantly surprised. The fried shrimp po-boy was spot on. The jambalaya is tasty. I'll have to try the gumbo later. The only ding is the beignets. Instead of fluffy airy pillows, they were dense bullets, more like a Dunkin Donuts filled donut. Well, I love Cajun and I heard about this place. Soooo, I walked into a nearly empty restaurant at 5:30 on a Friday evening. No one greeted me or even looked at me. When I dine alone, I prefer to sit at the bar, which I found myself. It looked like the bar of a closed business, no bartender, glass door fridge empty, a bunch of draft faucets, none marked, no glassware visible. I sat there for almost ten minutes, still no one acknowledged my presence. I walked out and still, no one said a thing. There were people at 2-3 tables and 3 people waiting for take out. Well, to start, be aware that it is spicy! All good Cajun food should be imho, but I guess some don't know that. We caught it at a good time, between lunch but too early for dinner, so there was almost no one there. All the staff was very personable, and had a great attitude about service. The host told us the owner is from New Orleans, LA. I love regional food, and Cajun is one of my favorites. But these guys hit the mark... The food...omg the food...amazing. The three of us got three dinners and two appetizers. They were out of calamari, but the fried pickle spears and shoestring fries more than made up for it. Bozeman is not where I would have expected to find good cajun food but this place was a pleasant surprise. My wife and I each got a po-boy and a friend of ours got shrimp etouffee. Everyone enjoyed their dish and the portions were quite large and filling. Tried the Cajun/creole cuisine here for the first time and I have to bow down for it. Three of us ordered five dishes and to our wonder we emptied the plates and even the waitress was shocked. We ordered BBQ shrimp po-boy, spicy Cajun gyro, jambalaya, chicken & sausage gumbo and chipotle pork po-boy. Each one of them is yummy and fantastic. Lots of meat and quite heavy. Deeeelicious! I had the gator P.O.'boy, fried. It was the first time I've had gator, and I liked it. It's kind of like a mild white meat--the seasoning makes it. Kiddo had a grilled crawfish po'boy and it was even better than the gator. My husband had the small portion of jambalaya, and had more than he could finish--plenty of sausage, chicken and shrimp. Driving through Montana from here to there and stopped for the night in Bozeman - and what says Montana more than New Orleans, so we tried it. It was not just good "for Montana" - it was great - for anywhere. I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans, and the few things I tasted here would have been right at home there. Enjoyed the "Tchopitoulas Catfish" (grilled catfish over shrimp ettouffe) and the Cajun Lobster Roll. Loved the casual environment and cool decor - a large menu promises something for everyone, and plenty to keep you coming back if you live in the area. I was excited to give this place a try today. Went for a later lunch and loved it! I got the fried Bayou Po' Boy and a side of fried pickles. The Bayou Po' Boy had both shrimp and crawfish, lettuce, tomatoes, and some special sauce that was amazing. One thing I will say is that the food was pretty heavy/filling and I could have split a Po' Boy and been perfectly full--especially if you get a side. The prices were moderate--$11.95 for the sandwhich and $4.95 for the fried pickles. The had a large selection on their menus and many things I want to go back to try! The service was great. The atmosphere takes you to Louisiana. The one thing that was disappointing was their lack of freshly brewed sweet tea. They have a Peak Tea machine, but I personally prefer freshly brewed and associate that with Southern food. Overall I highly recommend. read more
