The staff were very friendly and fun to order with, but the menu lacked any descriptions, so I settled on a chai latte and my boyfriend had a brewed coffee. His coffee smelled great and he seemed to enjoy it. The chai, on the other hand was way too milky and tasted more like steamed milk with a hint of chai. Disappointing. Been going to this coffee shop everytime we are in Seattle. Very friendly and good customer service esp when we go it's usually very early in the morning. This Ladro will do in a pinch, but it isn't my favourite... the staff aren't quite as friendly as they are down in LQA or UQA and they're distinctly lacking in pastry selection because they are a smaller location. It has a downtown, business feel to it and is more like somewhere I would take an early morning client than a neighbour or friend. I think with a little more warmth to the ambience, better seating, and interactions with baristas that are genuine without seeming rushed, this Ladro could stand to compete with its Capitol Hill counterparts up the street. read more

it was good and bad that they were so close to where we were staying. we come for one thing at ladro and that's their Medici. not a fan of mochas but no one can make an orange mocha quite like cafe ladro. every place ends up making it with orange syrup where a sip is more orange than mocha. the medici has an orange peel that's placed at the bottom of the cup and that fresh peel infuses with the mocha to give it a very mellow orange after sip. we have searched and searched outside Seattle for it, but there's nothing comes close to caffe ladro medici. read more

My first time at caffe and not the last! I ordered a 12 oz Americano. It was one of the best one I've had. A nice layer of foam then topped with half half (no sugar) gave it a perfect taste. The place makes good coffee at perhaps whatever is normal pricing for Seattle, but it's not really any better or worse than any other swinging shop. Place is busy, so people like it. This location has a somewhat iconic look to it and I could see it from my hotel, so I hit it before I wandered over to my conference. Anyway, if you want to get one of their mugs as a souvenir, you're looking at a $35 investment. Seems a bit too steep for me so I knocked off a star for overly overpriced merch. read more

One time I took my two year old in with me and the barista made him his very own "Leo coffee". Leo was over the moon about it for days and kept asking to go see "Shadow, the coffee guy with a beard." Seattle is home to the second best coffee on the west coast. Portland obviously has better coffee overall. But there are some standouts in town. Ladro finds itself in the upper echelon of solid coffee, but maybe not quite to craft-coffee standards. Ladro is easily on my list as a good go-to spot for espresso drinks. While I might favor Vivace or Victrola or one of the more premier shops when I want to geek out, Ladro gets the damn job done, and they do it well. Solid, tasty joe served up with a smile. I have always been typically loyal to Starbucks, but I had been getting a tad bored of the usual order, and Caffe Ladro is right next to my work so I decided to give it a shot. That was a bad choice! There were 2 guys ahead of me and 2 behind me, and the employees were super flirty and fun and sweet to them, but rude to me. I got short responses and no eye contact, and still the same attitude even after I tipped. I had forgotten to mention that I wanted my drink iced, and I was more than happy to just fix it myself (it was my fault anyhow). The girl at the counter gave me the biggest attitude about it, and I was holding the rice milk container in my hand and she snapped at me, demanding it back. She ordered me a new one, but was clearly resentful. I was incredibly embarrassed, and I woulda walked out if I hadn't already paid. I have always worked in customer service, so I know how to treat people and I know how I should be treated. I'll most definitely NOT be going back. read more

Ladro is one of my coffee go-to's after a trip back from overseas. This ladro location in particular is quite lovely. High ceilings with large glass windows. A great place to grab some non-burnt-non-Starbucks coffee as well as kicking back and resting those weary feet. A few steps away from the Washington convention center as well as the main shopping district. A nice place to get away from the crazy crowd. read more

I was looking for a place to study somewhere downtown and I remembered seeing this name in Capitol Hill. I believe this is one of their branches off of their main roastery. The upsides to this cafe: not crowded (at all), plush chairs, lots of outlets, and pretty decor. The downsides: so-so coffee, steep prices, and at the bottom of a hotel. This place is an average place to stop by for coffee but missing that cafe vibe that makes Seattle known for their coffee. Perhaps a stop at their main location would be better. read more

We had some time to kill before a movie, I wanted an iced coffee, and my dad is not a Starbucks fan. Happily, I remembered this Ladro was right around the corner and being a fan of the location on Capitol Hill (and having a coupon for a free drink!) I thought it would be worth a try. My iced vanilla latte was not quite as good as others I've had in the past, but was tasty nonetheless. Dad ordered almond, which struck me as an odd choice, but he seemed to think it was ok once he doctored it up with some sweeteners. At the very least, he seemed to like the coffee itself. The gal running the shop was very friendly and sweet as pie. I like the staff of the Hill location, but I wish she worked there too because she was great! I had high hopes that this would be our go-to coffeeshop after moving nearby. I knew Ladro's reputation for tasty coffee and pastries due to frequenting their Union location. Unfortunately, the woman behind the bar crushed those hopes. After watching her be totally charming, chatting up the customer ahead of me, I thought, "Finally! A place with good coffee AND nice staff." (Why do those seem to be mutually exclusive? Why God? Why?!) She took her time farewelling the customer, those 2 extra minutes to ring him up were fine by me as I prepared myself to receive great coffee and a pleasant social exchange. Turning to me, her whole demeanor shuttered, like some master controller had switched off her humanity approximator. My, (smile) "Good morning, how are you?" was met with a lackluster, "Finewhatcanigetyou?" to which I replied with my carefully worded order and nothing more. I don't know. Maybe I'm just needy with my desire to have a little chitchat with my $6 latte. Or maybe I felt the chill so severely having basked in the collateral warmth just moments before. Or maybe I just lacked the proper equipment to qualify for warm customer service. All I know is that the coffee tasted of the experience--bitter and cold (and not in a good way)--and I'm still looking for my go-to coffeeshop. read more

Way overpriced for average espresso. Which is all I got by the way. A shot of espresso and was charged almost $4 for it. So ridiculous. I ordered a shot of espresso with cream and just got the shot of espresso. Served in a paper dixie cup that could literally only hold the espresso. The barista even looked annoyed by my order.... I honestly tried to chalk this up to the fact that this place must pay a lot to rent the space. The poor service on top of absurd pricing is why I am leaving the review. Love Ladro! I LOVE the brews! It was a pleasant, satisfying alternative to the typical Starbucks. Vegan pastry options available are very tasty - esp the oat bar! The other pastries are delectable - esp the squash bread! The baristas working the counter was pleasant, personable, and, efficient, even remembered me on my second visit. The digs are a bit sterile for my likings but efficient for your morning brew. Ambiance is conducive more to a solo venture rather than hanging with a friend or two; however, provides nice outdoor seating. read more

We stayed at the Paramount across the street and wanted to try it because it's right accross the street. Man, we were so dissapointed with the service, we couldn't wait to come home and write our review. The waitress was nice with to the man ahead of us. But when it was our turn, she was very rude. While she was making a cup of coffee without giving us eye contact, she said, "Do you know what you want?" (we answered yes) and she replied, "Do you want to tell me?" My friend came in to order after us and received similar treatment. We didn't order any coffee but I did enjoyed the milk and granola. I have been coming to Caffe Ladro since I was a young teen living in the city, memories of sitting our on the front patio in the warm Seattle summer sun. I am 26 now and Still enjoy the staff, location and coffee. And all have been nothing but consistent and pleasant. I would recommend this coffee shop to any customer of mine (I manage a Victrola in SLU) that would have a meeting near this location or if they have been transplanted from my office building to a location closer to Ladro. Cafe Ladro is amazing! Rosa is the best Coffee Professional that I have ever met. Rosa makes amazing coffee and has an artists touch. The coffee is always beautiful and tastes amazing. Rosa is very attentive to all of the customers that come into Cafe Ladro and always makes sure the customers are happy (even when there are many customers to attend to). Rosa noticed that I drink a macchiato before I head to work and recommended I try a a Gibraltar. To reiterate my mission, I am working diligently to find the best white mocha in Seattle. For no real reason. So basically, this particular location of Caffe Ladro and I have run into a few difficulties. For instance, my first attempt to visit Ladro was by bike, which I was very new to at the time. My jeans got caught in the chain, and after I fumbled with that for 10 minutes or so, I was too embarrassed to go in, so I took my shame and went home. Fail on my part. The second attempt, I actually made it inside! However, there was a "cash only" sign at the bar, which I was not made aware of by the reviews on Yelp. I quickly learned that it was because the ISP was down, not that they didn't regularly take cards. Either way, I was already mad because, well, I never carry cash, so this trip was also a bust. I lean towards mutual fail here, but still...Ladro...fail on your part. So the third time. I make it in. I order my white mocha and wait for it with more anticipation than I can possibly let on within this review. I have been told Ladro is the best coffee shop in Seattle. I've been told their coffee is to die for. And then my white mocha finally arrives. I taste it. I'm...surprisingly really underwhelmed. Now, I should say that I've been holding Ladro up on a pedestal based on what lots and lots of other people have said, so maybe they were already at a disadvantage what with all these high expectations of mine. But, basically, I wasn't impressed. It was just a white mocha. Actually, it was just...a warm drink. It wasn't great, it wasn't terrible, it just...was. So. All of this waiting, all of this anticipation, all of this trouble, and just a :\ kind of drink. Definitely not the best white mocha in town. But the cafe itself has a really inviting interior with a prime location for an afternoon of relaxing and maybe some people watching. So, I guess that's nice. The search continues, I suppose. This is one of my favorite of the Ladro mini-chain because from a distance it reminds me of a brightly lit greenhouse. Love the multiples of rice-paper lamps, the red walls, art work by erikandrew.com through November with whimsical titles like "Don't Try Me" (figurative drawing of a man with a gun). We didn't try the drip coffee, but got a latte and a Medici. I think that I have found a new addiction- the Medici is a mocha with orange zest (really orange rinds). They have the biggest quiches and pies I have ever seen- large and deep like a Chicago pizza. Another must for me is their marionberry pie. It is slightly tart and so filling that I had to take 1/2 of it home. I may have found my neighborhood hangout! read more
