A fairly ubiquitous coffee shop around downtown Seattle. This place has all the common fare like lattes, etc but also stands out with the Medici (espresso, chocolate, orange) and some frozen blended drinks that kind of reminds me of a Starbucks Frappuccino but better. We got the Medici and the Coffee Thief (aka frozen latte). The Medici is pretty good - simple but refreshing and fruity. It had the right amount of sweetness and well balanced. It is a bit pricy compared to other drinks at other coffee shops. The Coffee Thief is a bit on the sweeter side, but the employee mentioned it is the least sweet drink in the blended series so imagine how sweet the other drinks are! However, it was creamy and filling. It is a good drink to get on a hot summer day. This place is self-serve with water available. There is good amount of seating, but it can be a bit unwelcoming with the bird poop that is scattered around a lot of the windows, but the windows and the ambience could be pretty inviting without this element. This is a small but wonderful coffee shop and bakery. The beautiful windows look out over Pine Street or you can sit on the patio for prime people watching. The staff are friendly. They have great seasonal specials, like the 'Cactus Blossom' iced matcha latte with strawberry puree and homemade Rose Cardamon you can add to a latte. I went here while I was at a conference in Seattle. I went on Sunday morning where there was only one employee. I like checking out coffee places that's not too mainstream. I ordered their maple spice latte and it was very soothing and comforting while dealing with the cool autumn weather. The wait was a bit long only because we had one barista. I like the atmosphere of the cafe, but I didn't stay too long because I had to get to my conference. Overall, I would give them my patronage again if I'm ever in town. In a land of overpriced coffee shops, Caffe Ladro stands out by having good quality drinks and food at a reasonable price. The baristas are all super friendly and the vibes are chill so it's a nice place to get a coffee and relax. Also, if you come around closing time, all of the pastries are discounted by a lot and it's such a great deal! I love the almond cranberry cake and chili jack scones here. I enjoy intense almond flavors like you get from marzipan and almond extract, and the almond cranberry cake has the perfect amount balanced by the fruitiness of the cranberries. The cake is super moist and tender with a good crunch from the sliced almonds on top. The chili jack scone surprised me because usually scones at coffee shops are super dry, but the scone here was crispy on the outside while soft and tender inside. It had a good flavor from the cheese and peppers, and pockets of cheese caramelized around the outside of the scone giving it a really tasty frico cheese skirt. read more

Dang. I wish I could write a raving review because I came in with really high hopes. The last time I was here was almost 15 years ago when I lived in the city and had worked as a barista myself years before. Coffee culture was something I craved in past years. I won't say where I worked, but I will say that our training was based on serving great coffee and most importantly customer service. Like really caring about the customer experience- clean floors, stocked up with cream, wiped counters, attention to detail and a warm inviting demeanor. When I came- I was met with the opposite. The person who took my order totally did it wrong. She didn't anticipate me needing boxes or bags for my huge order and service was so slow despite there only being two or three other customers. When I found out the chocolate was just bottled sauce with added sugar, I realized Caffe Ladro was a fond memory of the past. The work ethic is not there and there are just too many other choices. Lately in Seattle every shop you go in has someone behind the counter who visibly wants nothing to do with you. It's been depressing to go out to small businesses because of it. It's unfortunate when that occurs, especially in a small place like this one when there's not even other customers inside. Cortado came in a porcelain cup rather than the usual Gibraltar glass, also, the plate was of the wrong size + there was no soda water. Not much attention to detail :) but whatever, I love it anyway. How far are you willing to drive for an amazing coffee? Well I drive about 12 miles to this Ladro because Rosa is hands down the best barista out here. Some people really question my decision making but if you had the chance to taste her coffee, I guarantee you will do the same. BUT: our closest Ladro is 25 min away, and more and more frequently a store will close unexpectedly for the day. Today was ANOTHER one of those days where I wasted an almost hour of driving to get my Ladro Fix. It was 1:25 in the afternoon and their sign says they close at 7pm. Visited for the first time this morning on our way to the Flower and Garden show. A bit hard to get to due to construction out front but it was well worth the small journey. Very quaint shop nice background music provided a calm atmosphere and nice ambiance for those wanting to stay and chit chat. The chocolate croissant was delicious as was my white chocolate americano. I still always wonder why no shop in Seattle makes a 16oz drink with three shots. Seems silly to pay for extra water that just waters down the beautiful coffee flavor. Anyhow enough of that as you can always pay extra or not for more espresso. The Barista sorry I did not catch her name was fantastic. Very calm, smooth a d steady as she kept up with the flow. She apologized for the wait, yet it's the nature of the beast when you make a delicious beverage. Make sure to seek out the downtown Ladro next time you are in Seattle it is kitty corner to the Paramount Hotel. I walked over to Caffe Ladro from the Paramount Hotel. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the very friendly person at the register. We chatted for a few seconds about Star Wars and tattoos before they asked my order. I had a few questions about the seasonal Wild Rose latte (rose and cardamom flavor), mainly I am a hobbyist baker and I've learned the hard way how those flavors can taste like soap if not handled with care! They offered to let me smell/taste a small amount to see what I thought. It smelled wonderful so I decided to go for it. It is one of the best lattes I've ever had! The flavors are well balanced and it is lightly sweet, not over powering at all and not overly sweet. The milk (non fat for me) is foamed well, creamy and light. While I waited the very short time for my drinks, I did take note of the music, which was pleasant and not too loud. It would allow for quiet conversation without feeling like you couldn't hear the other person. Over all, a terrific experience! I walked in sleepy and in need of caffeine. I walked out a few minutes later with a delicious, hot latte and a smile. read more
