    CALIFORNIA STUFFED FIGS
    Donna R.

It was my first time here. My boyfriend chose this restaurant for his birthday. He's been here before and had a wonderful dinner. I made a reservation because we came on a Friday night. We were seated immediately by a hostess. My server Bella was friendly and nice. The owner Antonio and his son Greg were walking around and checking on us. They made us feel welcomed. We started with two appetizers, STUFFED ZUCCHINI BLOSSOMS-Fresh ricotta, battered fried, with cheese fondue. The stuffed zucchini blossoms were delicious. Crispy on the outside, with soft fluffy ricotta on the inside. Then they were topped with melted mozzarella.Next came STUFFED CALIFORNIA FIGS--crumbled blue cheese, wrapped in prosciutto and lightly baked with an arugula-aged balsamic glacé. Both were delicious, but I absolutely loved the fresh stuffed figs.It was a nice blend of salty and a bit sweet, and the prosciutto that was wrapped around was crispy and so good. It melted in my mouth. We were served hot bread and received a house salad. It was lightly dressed and good. For my entree I chose CHICKEN DELIZIOSO- Roasted pepper, shiitake mushrooms, spinach, brandy herbal demi- glace sauce, with melted mozzarella. This dish was also very good. It was served in a lovely casserole pan. What I really liked was that all of the dishes arrived at my table piping hot. My boyfriend ordered VEAL PORTOGALLO- Roasted shallots, porcini mushroom, prosciutto, sundried tomato,in a creamy port wine sauce. My boyfriend didn't leave a drop left on his plate. For his birthday dessert he chose their LEMON STYLE PUDDING.They were so kind to put a candle in it. The owner even put on Happy Birthday music( Today's Your Birthday by the Beatles.) Everyone in the restaurant sang and clapped. For my dessert I chose TIRAMISU it was creamy and delicious. Antonio gave us some homemade Limoncello and cheered us! There's plenty of free parking because this place is located in a strip mall. We had a lovely dinner and we would definitely return.

We booked cafe piazza for our son and daughter-in-laws rehearsal dinner on the day before the wedding. We selected a party package or family style meals. We also ordered a tiramisu instead of a cake. The meal was incredible and so was our dessert choice. If I could do it all over again, I'd pick everything the same. Antonio was easy to work with and his wait staff was very good. I highly recommend this place for a private party!

Caffé Piazza is located in a small strip mall. The average sized restaurant is cutely adorned with that old nostalgic Italian-American feel that I grew up with --faux leaves along the walls, kitchen tools hanging from the ceiling, black and white photos of people hanging on the walls. Frank Sinatra's music is played on a continuous loop. I thought the food was fairly good. The bread service was a little too hard for my liking, but the salad was delicious. Fresh spring mix with a lovely vinaigrette dressing. My entree was the Beef Short Ribs Della Nonna, found on the specials menu. The beef was still on the bone and came off so easily; tender (braised for 5 hours according to the menu!) but a little fatty in some parts. Still good nonetheless. Homemade pappardelle was delicious in the gravy. Perfect serving size. My boyfriend ordered the Bistecca Antonio which was topped with imported prosciutto, spinach and cheese. The steak was nice and tender and very flavorful from the wine sauce. He said the prosciutto was amazing! The steak was served with a decent portion of steak fries that were seasoned nicely. I can easily make a meal out of French fries and could've done so off of these. Dessert was just subpar. They bring out a tray of desserts for you to choose what you'd like. I wanted something chocolaty so I got the brownie with nuts that had melted chocolate inside and it came with a scoop of ice cream. I wasn't overly impressed and found the brownie to be lacking something. It wasn't particularly sweet and it was dry. My boyfriend got tiramisu and it was presented in a glass jar rather than in a slice form. He said it had too much whipped cream but didn't mention anything else about the tiramisu. If I could go back in time, I would've ordered off of the antipasti instead of getting dessert. Bonus points for friendly service! The owner was walking around and talking to guests and the chef came out to a couple tables to show the meat precooked. Pretty neat! Also cool that they have a health-conscious/dietary restriction menu. Those foods are labeled as gluten free, nut free, vegan and vegetarian. A rarity at a lot of Italian restaurants! Overall, nice local spot in Hillsborough for a cozy Italian meal.

What a hidden gem! Although it did take some time to put in our order, once we did the food came out quickly! We had calamari and bruschetta for appetizers. Both were amazing! The salad that comes with the meal is delicious. Not sure the dressing they use but it is so tasty. Every entree we ordered was great. We also had gelato and tiramisu for dessert. Overall amazing food, worth the money. We will be back.

No tables or seats available at the bar with several parties waiting patiently. We were warmly greeted by the manager as he told us it would be at least 45--60 minutes for a four top. My bride noticed a single chair open on the far side of the bar so we made our way through the friendly crowd. The vibe here is causal with a very friendly neighborhood feel. We eventually made it over to the open seat as patrons on both sides skooted over to make room for us. The bartenders were getting slammed but they promptly acknowledged us and took our order shortly after. My martini was served in a well chilled glass with olives and my bride's chardonnay was perfect temperature. Soon after getting our drinks, as our friends arrived, two more seats at the bar opened up, so they took them and order their drinks. A short while later a couple of octogenarians entered the packed bar area, so we gave them our seats. At this point, we ordered another round and patiently waited for a table to open up. The manager stopped by a few times with estimated updates. He did a great job of keeping us advised and about an hour later we were seated. We ordered fried calamari and oyster appetizers. Our friends had mussels marinara, my bride has Caesar's salad and calamari and I had the soft shell crabs. We shared a bottle of Albarino (Great value). The food arrived in a nice relaxed pace as the waiting patrons were all seated at this point. As usual, the food was all on the mark. Nice tentacles with the calamari, perfecting flash fried. My oysters were cold, briney and firm. The mussel portion was very generous and the marinara had just the right medium zip. My sauteed soft shell crabs were perfectly cooked and served with tasty garlic enhanced spinach. We enjoyed our conversations and didnt notice we were the last patrons in the place. Regardless, there was no rush. I had some expresso before heading out. This place has been very consistent, even when packed. We will definitely return. Just a reminder. They dont take reservations, so be prepared to chill with the friendly crowd while you wait... and bring cash as they dont accept credit cards.

Also, the cost of one shoprite apple turnovers from the cafe buys you the whole case at shoprite which is *actually* the same exact food. The breakfast sandwich was the most unflavorful and bland breakfast sandwich I've ever had, counting both outside and even at home. It was difficult to take a third or fourth bite of any of the food. The coffee also did not stand out to me in any way. Coming in very hungry, I was excited and while food typically tastes better when hungry, I just couldn't enjoy it. with this experience, I have to give the food a 2/5 If you're looking for a spot to hangout or get some work in, I'd say it's worth visiting. I wanted to try something from the lunch menu, after asking an employee, I was told that lunch starts at 11:30am. So I came back around that time to order. I've been seeing their Big Mack Smash on social media for some time now, and it looks delicious. So I decided to I order their single patty Big Mack Smash, with angus meat and American cheese, on a plant based white bun. I don't care for sesame seeds on buns, and there was no option for a regular burger bun (without sesame seeds), so I chose the non sesame seed vegan bun. I also ordered a side of fries with garlic aioli. The plant based white bun was a little dry and the burger patty was also dry and did not have much flavor. Maybe I should have done a double patty for the burger, since it is a smashed patty and a little too thin for my liking. I felt like I was eating a dry burger bun with mostly lettuce, an occasional pickle and the Mack sauce. I probably will not order the garlic aioli again, it had a sweeter and nutty flavor to it, and I prefer more of a savory aioli. I used to order their Blackened salmon with a side of greens and Spanish rice in their BBQ Ranch flavor style, from their old menu. I do miss that meal, it was so flavorful with the crispy onions to top everything off. But I understand that they made the change to better suit the business and cut back on waste. I probably would not order the big Mack burger again. But I will definitely be back to try something else from the new menu. I've been a customer for over 6 years, and have introduced some of my family members and friends to this restaurant, and we've enjoyed our meals here for that time. I love that there are many vegan and vegetarian options here. Although I am neither, it's a great place for those who have dietary restrictions/preferences. Hopefully I find my new go to menu item soon, but in the meantime I will be ordering and trying many of the other new menu items. This is definitely the place to come if you don't want a typical vegan meal. You'd be like a kid in a candy store, with the amount of options that are here. They also have many non vegan options. I had the grandma's boy, cashew mac n' cheese, and a customizable bowl. The grandma's boy consisted of a fried oyster mushroom, red cabbage, pickles, pepper jack, chipotle mayo, and horseradish on a white bun. This was not bad. The sandwich was filled to capacity, and the sauces were a nice combination along with the crispy cheese. The pickles were good and I wish there were even more added. The fried mushroom just tasted like batter without much from the mushroom, which was really the only negative about this. The mac and cheese was made with a homemade cashew cheese. Texturally, it felt like a traditional mac and cheese, but the sauce threw me off a little. It was more plain than anything. Regarding my bowl, I opted for blackened chicken, quinoa, spring mix, bacon, chickpeas, corn, edamame, and a house Greek dressing. This was nicely put together. The chicken was seasoned and cooked ideally while the Greek dressing really brought everything together. I really enjoyed the bacon pieces as well.
