Finally made it to this small town Cafe. Parking is a little rough but well worth it. Everyone working there were so nice and helpful. It could be a little tight but not uncomfortable. Looks like all pastries are made on premises. We started with a couple of cappuccinos, accompanied with a pastel de nata. I got mine with Nutella. This was my first time having one and will not be my last. Great small treat. For breakfast, I got a Taylor Ham, egg and cheese on a Portuguese roll. Can't express how delicious this place is. I think they cook up some of the best Portuguese sandwiches and steak sandwiches in the area. If I could move to Portugal just to eat their food for the rest of my life I would, but I can't so this place comes to a close 2nd on that list. The ambiance is just a small little neighborhood cafe. This is your typical small Portuguese bakery but with a twist. They have some fun options for their custard cups including red velvet, chocolate and Nutella. The regular custard cups are delicious are their own too, probably one of the best in town. They lost a star only because they do run out of them fairly quickly and they don't make more during the day. Parking is limited to the street but it's easy enough to find something. Coffee is great, they also offer açaí bowls and breakfast sandwiches. The women behind the counter are nice too, very accommodating. I've been trying to go to local coffee shop and I came across to this place. The place is not too big and not too small. When I first came in, there was a bunch of I believe high school kids and the employee was quite friendly. I was so excited because of the many good reviews that people wrote on here. I ordered their cappuccino, iced latte, pastel de nata, pastel de nata nutella, ham egg and cheese sandwich and the brownie cupcake! Their cappuccino was good, even without sugar. When I took a sip, the sweetness from the whipped cream and dash or cinnamon was a perfect mixture with the coffee. The pastel de nata (original and with Nutella) was super good! Also the brownie cupcake is so good, it's chewy and crispy on top. The ham egg and cheese was good also, the bread is not dry (atleast the one I got) overall, it's good! Came across this place while getting my bf's car fixed in the auto shop across the street. Haven't had Portuguese food in a while so I was down to try this. We went inside and there was a QR code to scan on your phone to see the menu online. There's a plastic divider and sanitizer at the cashier for covid safety measures. My bf and I shared the grilled steak sandwich with egg and wow that was so good. We both took a bite and nodded at the same time like "dang this steak is seasoned different" lol. I also got the pastel de nata, which is pretty much an egg tart. Last time I had this was in Lisbon and I taking a bite of it just gives me such nice memories. We stayed there for a while, luckily they have outdoor seating and the weather is nice to just sit at a cafe. Turning 75 years old was made much easier, let me rephrase, was made GREAT by having a gathering of close family and friends at Mauro's Café in Carle place. This was our second time gathering at Café Mauro for a party and for the second time the food was perfect. Although a large group we were allowed to order anything we wanted off the menu. Lisbeth, our lovely server, did a wonderful job. All orders were perfect, served hot and served with humor and grace. The food was so outstanding that we had to give a standing ovation to the chef who was shocked but I hope realized how amazing he is. Anthony, the manager, coordinated the entire party also perfectly with a joy in seeing it go so well with everyone having a great time. Especially the birthday girl who let loose with just a little of their powerful sangria. Thanks also to Joe, the owner, whose care about quality and good service is infectious. I had come here in the morning after a workout, and was very curious and intrigued to try their pasteis de nata, but wanted something more substantial for breakfast. I opted for their ham and egg breakfast sandwich on a Portugese croissant. Unfortunately, I as not impressed. The "croissant" was extremely dry and the top was burnt. I understand that Portugese croissants vary greatly from your typical buttery and flaky French croissant, but this was so dry I had to order a cup of water to swallow the sandwich down. The espresso and pasteis de nata really saved my dining experience. I've yet to try their other pastries, but perhaps I'll stick to those instead of actual food. read more

Flaky, more custard than I usually have for a filling and the first bite has a perfect crunch to it.....it was delicious and I will definitely come back......BUT THERE'S A TWIST.........wait for it..... They have NUTELLA custards and YES it's a must try. They still have the taste of a regular custard cup but the Nutella is somewhat added in the middle more on the bottom....it was delish! I need to come back and try the other stuff on the menu but when I have a crave for custards I'm definitely coming back here. All street parking....it's definitely worth a trip!!! My wife saw Café Mauro on the way to pick up some Portuguese BBQ from the Fire Pit right down the street. I didn't stop by there yet myself, so my review is solely on the custard cups she brought home and I have to say these are some of the best I've had in a long time. Typically we go all the way into Newark to buy these extremely addictive desserts, so you can imagine how happy I am that she found this place... The wife picked up two different cups, the regular and another I never even seen offered before - nutella! Both types of cups were excellent, perfectly crispy, thick, and flakey crusts. The custard itself had a bit more egg than I am used to, however had a great flavor. The addition of nutella in the cups was a great modification to a classic. But I had one complaint when I walked in, and there were two other older ladies there. And I completely forgot about my mask (since it's not mandatory), and those ladies complained about me in Portuguese, and I was told I needed to put on my mask before ordering. I didn't mind.. until two minutes later, four other people came in maskless but weren't told to put theirs on.
