Empanadas de Carne | Beef Empanadas
    Gina Z.

Cahill Bistro is one of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities, and for good reason! The food, the service, and the ambience are five stars across the board. Owned and operated by three brothers, this family-owned restaurant serves incredible Ecuadorian and Mexican-inspired dishes. If you visit, you'll most likely be greeted and served by one of the owners, who treat you like family--wholesome and genuinely high-quality hospitality without doing too much. The service provided and the love poured into the food are comparable to none. I've frequented this restaurant several times, throughout several years, and I've never had a bad experience or a bad meal. Some of my favorite dishes here include: - Empanadas de Carne or Vegetariana: Beef or vegetable empanadas. These empanadas are pan-fried corn dough, stuffed with your choice of tender, juicy, perfectly cooked braised beef or fresh vegetables. The empanadas are served on a bed of roasted tomato salsa and crema casera. The crispiness and warmth of the empanadas, combined with the tanginess of the sauces, make this dish my absolute favorite. If you're undecided in the appetizer section, this would be the one thing I would absolutely make sure you order. - The guacamole is made with fresh avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro, roasted tomato, salsa, and served with crispy corn chips. It is one of their top-selling items as it is made fresh to order, and absolutely delicious as such. - The shrimp ceviche is another favorite! Made with a blend of tomatoes, red onion, cilantro, and citrus juice, this ceviche is both juicy and packed with tons of flavor. It's the perfect light and refreshing appetizer. - The Tostones and fried yucca, each crispy and crunchy, are also excellent options for sharing or nibbling solo before your main dish. - The Carne Asada is one of my go-to lunches when I visit. Overnight, marinated steak is grilled to perfection and served with achiote (yellow, seasoned) rice, black bean purée, French fries, and a small house salad. It's good comfort food cooked with love and an incredible amount of - The Lomo saltado dish is sautéed beef tips that are very tender, rich, and flavorful. The combination with the red onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes is sensational. Paired with an achiote (yellow, seasoned) rice that waters your mouth, as well as a side house salad served with a tangy lime vinaigrette that will blow you away. - The Mexican Tres leches is my absolute favorite version! I've tried several, not all, across the Twin Cities, and this is always easily my favorite. A homemade cake soaked with a blend of three milks, whipped cream, caramel chocolate, and topped with crispy coconut flakes. This dessert is decadent as it is delicious. In addition to these dishes, Cahill Bistro offers happy hour Sunday-Thursday from 3:00-5:30pm with specials on appetizers and drinks. They also have daily soup specials and brunch on Saturdays. Cahill Bistro has consistently won multiple awards for best Latin American food in the Twin Cities, and for me, there is no debate about that. Cahill Bistro is my #1!

What a wonderful surprise! Tucked away in a small strip mall, this restaurant exceeded every expectation. Their extensive gluten-sensitive menu is a huge plus and offers plenty of delicious options. The Latin-inspired cuisine was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared--every bite was outstanding. The service was equally exceptional, with one of the friendliest and most attentive servers i've had in a long time. Great food, warm hospitality, and an overall fantastic dining experience. I can't wait to return and highly recommend it to everyone!

Wonderful local and family owned restaurant that offers a Latin-inspired menu serving for weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner. You can tell that the owners truly care about Cahill Bistro with fresh flowers at each table, truly homemade food and wholesome ingredients, and super friendly service. I got the Chips and Guacamole as an appetizer and it was super yummy and the guacamole was very fresh, which I loved. For my main I got the Tacos de Carne with beef, which featured steak with red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and homemade avocado tomatillo salsa. These tacos are phenomenal and I would return and order exactly the same thing. I highly recommend a visit to Cahill Bistro and I absolutely will be returning again and again!

The owner greeted us at the door! Super friendly guy. He stopped what he was doing, and escorted us in the door and to a table. Our food came quickly. The refills were plentiful, and the service was attentive. My friend had a wedge salad, which he said was fantastic. I had a bowl of lentil soup. Boy was it good. We also shared an order or roasted brussels sprouts with balsamic and bacon. Wow - so darn tasty. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

We went for lunch, and I got the walleye (5/5), which was great! It had a nice, crunchy crust and wonderful flavor. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were also excellent! For only $15, it was an incredible value! We also got the salmon tacos, and they were also fantastic (5/5)! The service was also amazing (5/5)! The staff were very friendly, and we got the food and check all quickly! The interior of the restaurant is very well decorated too (5/5)! Overall, I am excited to come back!

Great again. Once again we brought another couple to join us for dinner at our favorite neighborhood spot that we are so proud of ... Service and food was amazing as usual and we brought the desert home to enjoy while playing cards.

I am lucky. I've spent a week (7 nights in the hospital) at Mayo and surgeons removed many NET tumors. 2 nights ago I arrived home having not eaten nor even much hydration. Tonight I put on some loose pants, loose shirt, slippers and made my way to an amazing local bistro - Our Cahill Bistro. While some may poo-poo the ambiance, it's in an older strip mall...the proveyors are brothers, and it's a family affair. My wife and I were able to briefly celebrate 36 years of marriage, and never had to worry about the food. It is amazing. From the salad that we shared, to my walleye and my wife's scallops - every bite was divine. My stomach isn't prefect yet - so my diet is fairly limited. And appetite not quite 100%. But the food (taste, preparation, portions, temperature, etc.) is beautiful. Thanks to my neighborhood bistro. Thanks Cahill Bistro! I am lucky.

In the Cahill area strip mall, a hidden gem. I've been there a few times and love their food! If busy, be patient. It's worth the wait.

The food that was carefully and lovingly prepared at this restaurant tastes like an ancestral dish made by caring hands and seasoned to perfection. The service was attentive and helpful. We had three courses and all three blew us away with deliciousness. The decor is simple, clean and comfortable. I don't live in the area, but if I did, I would visit this lovely restaurant often. Highly recommended.

This place is the BEST! Gracious and amazing service. Tons of variety and delicious food. My son said it is his new favorite restaurant of all time! Ambiance is cozy. Located in a tiny strip mall, this hidden gem should not be missed! Highly recommend!

The staff was SO friendly. Happy hour has good prices and the food on the happy hour is delicious for a good price. Feels a little bit like a "hole in the wall" establishment. But in the best way! Met friends there and there's plenty of room for parking. We all split many of the apps on happy hour menu and it was plenty of food. Also got the empanadas and would recommend those over all the other items because they're so good!

We stopped in Saturday afternoon, we got seated right away and given time to look over the menu. Christian was a great server, consistently checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. I really liked the scallops and the guacamole! There is a spacious free parking lot right in front of the restaurant!

The menu was a little bit confusing because I wasn't sure if this was an Italian restaurant or a Mexican restaurant since both cuisines were represented on the menu. Either way, the food (the chips and guac, the empanadas, and the lobster pasta) were fantastic. My favorite item was the chips and guacamole...wow it was delicious. The chips were warm and fresh and the guacamole was so flavorful and seasoned well. The lobster pasta was delicious too. There was a decent amount of lobster for the dish. I wish there was some sort of bread to help sop up the delicious sauce which would have made this a perfect meal. It's a pretty casual ambience, but it has an upscale menu. The service was also really good.

I started with their signature cocktail, the Naked Dani. It comes topped with a salty foam and a little rubber duck, which makes it a fun and memorable drink. For food, we ordered a variety of dishes to share. We started with the Crispy Masa Chips, and honestly, I would probably skip those next time. The portion was pretty small, they were a little awkward to eat, and they just didn't stand out flavor-wise. The Cucumber Watermelon Salad, on the other hand, was amazing. It was light and refreshing, making it the perfect addition to the meal. The roasted sweet potatoes were another favorite--they had so much flavor and were cooked perfectly. We also ordered the Corn Elote Chipotle, which was absolutely delicious. I could have easily eaten the whole bowl myself. For tacos, we tried the Pork Carnitas, and they were fantastic. If you're dining with a larger group, you can even order a larger portion so everyone gets one. Our favorite dish of the night, though, was the Zubuton Asada. It only comes with one skewer and is definitely one of the pricier menu items, but it was worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly, incredibly flavorful, and easily the standout of the meal. We also tried the Chicken Thigh Pincho. It had a nice flavor but was spicier than I expected, so it's probably the one dish I would pass on during my next visit. Overall, we had such a fun dining experience. It's definitely more of a special occasion spot than somewhere I'd visit regularly because of the price, but everything from the atmosphere to most of the food made it feel well worth the splurge.

I'm fancy, so I wanted something a bit more upscale. I did a little bit of research and wouldn't you know it... Colita came up. So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set south of downtown and a bit west of The Mall of America on Penn Avenue is this gem. There is no private parking lot, but plenty of street parking to leave your fly ride. But once you walk up to the restaurant you can immediately understand the message they're trying to send. Everything looks so modern, straightforward with straight lines, grey colors and light woods. There is a small outdoor section where you can dine if you get lucky enough to land a spot there. Inside carries a very similar style with a little nod to the pueblos and architecture of the southwest. The decor is minimalistic and the "loudest" thing in the room is the live plant wall seated directly behind the bar, which was super cool. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues whatsoever. Food/Drink: I was able to try so many different dishes and drinks here and the list is below... : Xochitl In Love : La Clandestina : Tuna Tostada : Chicken Tinga Tostada : Seared Scallops : Tlayuda : Colita Old Fashioned : Lamb Barbacoa Tacos : Duck Tamal However, my favorite things were the Lamb Barbacoa Tacos, Duck Tamal and Seared Scallops, in that order. The food here is phenomenal, the drinks are excellently crafted and things are served tapas style so you don't get too full off of just one thing! Order a whole bunch of stuff and share with the table! Value: As I mentioned earlier, I wanted upscale and the priced dddooo reflect that. Lol. This is a nice place so be prepared to spend... Like you're downtown somewhere. In conclusion, I loved this place and I will come back over and over. Check this place out the next time you're in the area!

We especially enjoyed how conversation-friendly it was here. If you're looking to catch up with a friend, this is a great option! As for the menu, you'll find both Mexican and Ecuadorian options. Starting with the beverage offerings, you'll see many flavors of Jarritos, agua frescoes, and some Ecuadorian sodas. I tried the Tropical, which was delicious. Pink and fruity, it was not too sweet and had a little dose of je ne sais quoi. I really liked it! I saw empanadas on the menu, and while I have had them before, never have I ever seen them served with sugar. Of course we ordered them. They were awesome. Exactly the right balance of crisp and tender, the pastry was a delight. (Definitely sprinkle a little sugar on it.) The salty cheese provided a satisfying little cheese pull and went beautifully with the sugar, too. They also go great with the hot sauce, which is a must-have. It's acidic and bright from the vinegar and has a satisfying heat that tickles the tongue and goes great on everything. The plato vegetariano was the epitome of simple and satisfying: potatoes in a delicious and herby sauce; a fresh salad of lettuce, onion, and tomato; a fried slice of plantain; a mound of perfectly-cooked rice; and a cup of beans. It was comforting without being heavy. The dessert menu featured familiar favorites and one that was completely new to me: higos con queso. While I went with the flan, I did get to sneak a bite of this unusual and intriguing dessert: the figs are poached but retain their firmness and are served with a firm and salty cheese. The figs and cheese come with the poaching liquid, which is not sweet but also not quite savory--it's got quite a depth of flavor and makes for a truly unique dish. I recommend it if you prefer to end your meal with something that isn't super sweet. (If, on the other hand, you prefer a more traditional dessert, the flan here is lovely: a bit sturdier than some you may have had, it's got the right blend of sweet and caramelized--it was just right!) Street parking is available nearby, but if you come later in the evening, it will probably park up. This is a great choice for families and friends!

They came out quickly, as did the rest of our food. They were good and came with a habanero sauce which was delicious. I am a wimp when it comes to spice, but I kept putting little dabs of it on my food because it tasted so good. My partner used it on everything and even scraped the bowl out with his chips. My partner ordered a Burrito with roast pork. When it came it was very big, plenty of value for the money, and the flavor was AMAZING. The pork was juicy and so very flavourful. It was delicious. He also ordered a horchata. I am not usually a fan of horchata, but he is. I tasted the horchata and I loved it. It was very creamy and had plenty of cinnamon. I ordered the sopes barbacoa. Again, lots of food for the money. I have never had sopes before, but they were so good. The barbacoa was juicy and again, so very flavourful. We will definitely be back, many times I am sure.

My birthday treat was the créma catalana, the Catalan answer to crème brûlée: sweet custard sits under a crunchy sugar crust and is topped with a lovely cinnamon-flavored apple concoction.
