Last night I had dinner at Macker Seafood. It's a no frills place, kind of a hole in the wall. My…read morekind of place! Service was fast and friendly. Everyone was exceptionally nice and talkative. I ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell and the shrimp boil. The oysters were delicious and fresh. The shrimp boil was amazing. The shrimp were HUGE! The potatoes were cooked perfectly and the sausage was delicious. I couldn't eat it all. There was a lot of food! The owner told me they have music on Wednesday nights. I wish I was going to be in town. Maybe next time. I will definitely be back. Two big thumbs up guys! Y'all are great guys.

My husband and I started with the buffalo shrimp, which is a go-to order for us at seafood spots. The buffalo flavor was good, but the sauce was very oily, and several shrimp still had bits of shell attached beyond the tails, so I ended up picking shell out of my mouth while eating. For my entrée, I ordered the snow crab and shrimp platter and asked for it to be cooked without butter but keep the old bay. The plate arrived with no discernible seasoning at all, and the seafood, potatoes, and corn tasted like they'd been boiled in plain water. When I asked about it, the server explained that they don't steam crab or shrimp in Old Bay, despite agreeing to that when I ordered, and that the platters rely on butter for flavor, which was disappointing for a $40-$50 dish. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because my mother did enjoy her lobster platter. That said, her lobster was absolutely swimming in butter and Old Bay--not lightly drizzled as the menu implies--and it felt like butter was the main source of flavor rather than an enhancement. The server even mentioned how much butter the restaurant goes through in a day, which reinforced that this is their primary approach to seasoning. I enjoy seasoning and lots of flavor, and I prefer seafood that's cooked so the spices and the delicious taste of the shellfish stand out, not preparations that rely on heavy butter, so this restaurant ultimately wasn't a good fit for my preferences.

The Pink Flamingo was delicious. The biggest surprise for us was the cinnamon roll kitchen where bakers are making fresh cinnamon rolls in front of you and you can eat as many as you like! The beauty of this restaurant is that the "fish camp" fixins' are on an all-you-can-eat buffet. But your entree is made to order, fresh for you! Best of both worlds! We had 8 in our party and were delighted to know that it takes 12 for the gratuity to be automatic. That was not an issue, though. Our first server "cousin Richard" was excellent, but then he got pulled away and "cousin Bailey" took care of us. Both were delightfully friendly and very attentive. In our group we had chicken tenders, which I sampled and were some of the best I've ever had. We had shark and alligator appetizers. They were both awesome. We had sautéed shrimp and sautéed scallops. Both were swimming in a delicious buttery garlic sauce and cooked to perfection. One had meatloaf and said it was great! One had salmon. And a couple of people had the crab cakes which they also said were delicious. The sides were also good, and the "fish camp" sides were awesome. I want to especially comment on the cheese grits. As a G.R.I.T.S. (Girl raised in the south) and a devout grits snob, I give my wholehearted double thumbs-up on the grits. I thought my grandson was going to make himself sick eating so much! Final word, the cinnamon rolls were AMAZING!! Warm out of the oven and covered with sugary sauce.

He messed up the order of a table next to us twice and the guy didn't eat while his entire family ate their meals. Not sure if he was new or just having a very bad day. My wife got sick halfway through our appetizer meal and I promptly told him I needed 2 boxes and the check as soon as he brought our main dish... I waited at least 30 minutes until he came back with the check and boxes, then he left again to correct the check for another 10-15. I wished he would have been a bit faster and more attentive since we were trying to leave in somewhat of a rush... I think maybe this place is just understaffed or we got a bad waiter. The catfish was still good the next day and the cinnamon rolls were AMAZING though!!

This time, my wife and I decided to try the River Grille, as it looked good and got good reviews. We parked and walked in. We were greeted by the hostess and asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Since the weather was beautiful and we wanted to check out the river view, we chose to sit outside. We were led to the outside deck, the restaurant was busy, but we still managed to get a table on the rail with a view of the Tomoka River. While it was nice to sit near the river, the deck was quite high, and the view was spoiled by a busy highway bridge. Still, it was a nice view and relaxing, despite the constant flow of traffic. We were given menus and ordered drinks. Our nice server brought us our drinks, and we ordered. I chose Clam Chowder and a pound of Peel & Eat Shrimp, and my wife chose Fish & Chips. The food came pretty quickly, and the chowder was rich and creamy, loaded with clams. My Peel & Eat Shrimp was just as I hoped, tender and tasty, and definitely local shrimp, not farmed. I had a bit of my wife's fish, and while the batter was indeed thin and crispy, it didn't have much flavor. Good, but we were a bit disappointed. All in all, a nice lunch. I would come back here and try something else. The menu is quite extensive.
