I've never tried gator so I had to go with the Gator Sauce Piquant ($22). It had one of those spicy symbols next to it, but that didn't bother me cause I'm 100% Italian. When Paul, the owner came by, he warned me that it was the hottest dish on the menu. I said bring it on! The dish was hot and spicy, but it wasn't overwhelming. The gator chunks were large and flavorful. Gator is now on my list of exotic foods that I like to eat. We tried some different dishes on the menu. For a starter, we got a cup of their Gumbo. It was pretty good. For entrees, we ordered the Crab Cakes and the Fried Soft Shell Crab and Crab Cake combo. They were excellent. One thing that caught us a little by surprise was the $5 upcharge for Red Beans and Rice as a side dish. For the price, I don't think the portion size was quite big enough. The Fried Okra was great! The service is always friendly. The ambiance is on par with the theme. The owners are great folks. The young lady that served us did a great job. She clears up 3 tables and sat 3 tables very quickly. The service was fast and attentive but not smothering. Man I've been craving Cajun for awhile, and used to go to the old location all the time. When I got out of the military I found that the location was closed so naturally I was bummed. Now many years later I found out they have a new location which I was so happy to hear. Although that "fish camp" feel is missing, the food and service hasn't changed. Stopped in on Saturday night at around 5 PM and we're able to secure a booth without a reservation, which can sometimes be tough. Larger party should definitely have a reservation. Couldn't believe it had been more than a year since we have eaten here, we love it every time we go and just don't get over often enough. The crawfish cornbread is always amazing. This time we got the blackened shrimp as a starter, this seasoning was perfect. I got the catfish courtbouillon for my entrée and my boyfriend got alligator sauce piquant. These are our go to and we always bring half home along with a take and bake bourbon bread, pudding. If you love spicy food, if you have ever wanted to pretend you are in New Orleans, if you have wanted to try something different this place is for you. The service is kind and knowledgeable. I have nothing bad to say about this place, the food, the ambiance and the service. My husband is a Louisiana boy and he said the étouffée was on point, my po-boy was delicious, oysters crispy and delicate. Delicious Creole food at Cajun Cafe on the Bayou! While no longer on a bayou, the inside of the family owned and run restaurant was super cute. A lot of the woodwork they did themselves, and it is a cozy and warm atmosphere with some of the nicest staff. As soon as we walked in, we also felt like family and were well taken care of! I got the Creole Shrimp (spicy but definitely bearable and sooo good!) and my husband got Crawfish Étouffée with dirty rice (also delicious, but much richer). To start, we split a few apps: savory Creole gumbo, amazing red beans and rice (deserves to be the star of the show, not just a side), crawfish jalapeño cornbread (SO good and tender, but think more savory than sweet), and lightly fried okra (best I ever had--crispy and salty but not overly battered outside and a soft inside). An incredible (and incredibly filling!) meal! We wanted to try the bread pudding, but there simply wasn't enough space. Also a nice selection of beers to wash it all down with... Hard to find good Cajun food in the Tampa Bay area... but finally found a place I am happy with.Cajun Cafe on the Bayou (although the new location is not on the bayou). Made reservations for a group of 10 (mostly yelpers) and was told that would probably be split to two tables since thier tables are setup for 6 each. I told them that would not be an issue. We ended up with 7 adults and two kids... and we all sat at one table. It was a little crowded but not bad. The staff was very attentive, and had our drinks on the table fast. After we all decided what to eat, orders were taken efficiently. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee with a side of Okra. And everybody else ordered... most a different dish per person. A basket of fried oysters, fried shrimp and some crawfish cornbread was ordered to keep us happy until the main courses arrived. All the apps were delicious!! Main courses started arriving.... and I wish I could have gotten pictures of everything, but pretty much just got mine, and one of the apps. Every looked wonderful and smelled heavenly! As we started eating, happy smiles broke... I don't think anyone had any complaints. The person closest to me (Paul) had ordered one of the Extra Spicy dishes, Shrimp Creole... and let me try it to check heat level. We both decided (for us) it was about a medium. Piled high with crawfish and other ingredients and on a tasty roll, this is one place to stop by and try out. They also have a hearty beer selection and a full menu. I ordered a good bit of food to go, and it was disappointing overall for the price. The softshell crab batter was too thick, the $12 jambalaya side order was just rice with hardly any meat, the gumbo needs a lot of work to compete with gumbo from LA and MS, the $12 bbq shrimp app was little and the shrimp were too (but tasty), and the alligator piquant was off - the roux was more red than dark which was disappointing, but the $5 dirty rice upcharge with it was good, but it all was little as well. We had a fabulous and delicious evening dining on authentic Cajun food. Nine of us got together including a native Cajun who could advise us on the food choices and tastes! Yes, we brought an expert to guide us! Paul, the owner, was a gracious host letting us split the check four ways and keeping everything perfectly straight! He personally waited on our table and accommodated our desire to all sit together. They don't actually have a table larger than six but all nine of us squeezed together and had a fun, relaxed and shared meal! We ordered crawfish cornbread and fried oysters for appetizers and enjoyed them both! For mains, everyone got something different! We tried étouffée, poor boys, blacked catfish and much more! My red beans and rice and fried okra sides were also extremely tasty! Three kinds of Louisiana hot sauce were available on the table and we tried them all! Everything was very well seasoned, perfectly prepared and most importantly, passed the taste buds of the Cajun with us! Best meal we had while in Florida hands down. Not a second of hesitation went into that statement. We came on a quiet Wednesday afternoon before our flight left, and left wishing we had another day in Florida just to come by again. We were greeted by the friendliest man we may have encountered in Florida. The gentleman happened to be one of the owners. My husband and him happily chatted about beer choices and it flowed from there. Stories were shared, laughs were had. Food was ordered and devoured and each of us loved our meals just as much as the others. Kids included. The kids and my husband were excited to share some gator bites and they loved them. My wife and I stopped at this place on the way home for Christmas. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and waiter really took care of us. This place offers some authentic Cajun cuisine. For an appetizer we started out with the fried crawfish tails. I'm usually not a fan of crawfish but I'd never had it prepared this way. It was a very flavorful appetizer and I enjoyed the sauce. While visiting family in the area we decided to try Cajun Cafe on the Bayou because we heard good things from Yelpers. Previously located on Park Blvd overlooking Lake Seminole it was a quaint Louisiana shack decor. Now since moving to 66th Street in Pinellas Park it's interior is more upscale but their food remain the classic Cajun cuisine that a lot of us love. We started off with their fried green tomatoes appetizer with a remoulade sauce. Large slices of fried green tomatoes beer battered then fried until golden brown. Excellent flavor and not greasy at all. Great way to start your meal. We were a party of four and our two guys picked the same entree. Catfish Court Boullion which is a fried catfish fillet smothered in a spicy red sauce served with a side of white rice and a slice of French bread. They both stated that the spice level was tolerable and the meal was tasty. Rice was cooked perfectly and helped with keeping the heat level down. My Sister in law had a huge bowl of Red beans and Rice which doesn't have any spice in it because she cannot tolerate heat. I had a taste and even though I thought I wasn't a Red beans and Rice fan I loved the flavor and how creamy the dish was. The red beans had a generous portion of sliced sausage and it was served with a big scoop of rice in the middle. A solid choice for those who want a comforting food choice along with any Red Beans and Rice lovers. I chose their Shrimp Etouffee as my main dish and it was every bit as good as I hoped it would be. A generous portion of shrimp smothered in a red tomato sauce made with a roux. Slightly spicy and buttery - the Etouffee had a great flavor. Served with two generous scoops of white rice - I just couldn't stop eating until my plate was clean and I had no room for dessert. We also ordered a side of fried okra for everyone to share and they were fried just the way we liked them. Cooked until tender, they were great. No negatives to our meal at all. Our server was attentive without being overly intrusive and our food was served at an appropriate wait time so we were able to joke and talk in between courses. We walked in on a Friday at 430pm or so. Only one other table occupied by a family with two rambunctious little brats; sigh! Anyway, there is festive Dixieland jazz playing and a somewhat interesting decor: cream colored walls, dark wood wainscoting and old school lighting. Lots of beer signs and other framed photos on the walls. Anyway, the t-shirt and shorts-clad owner himself was the lone waiter. Some other shorts and t-shirt clad man wearing a ball hat came out to help clear the table that the family finally departed from. Owner Man sat us after running about for a moment, asking about drinks: water with lemon. Well, he forgot the lemon, although he said he reminded himself to get it. Owner Man came back three more times to ask if we were ready, wanted to order, wanted to order MORE food, and so on. Pushy, somewhat awkward and ineffectual guy who seems not to understand the finer points of table service. I finally told him we were NOT in a rush. I was stuck between fried green tomatoes and fried shrooms; he didn't offer a word when I so stated. Since U can get fried shrooms nearly anywhere, I said tomatoes. For $6 I got 4 piddly slices of firm breaded tomato with a well-spiced remoulade. Queen Bee opted for tails-on shrimp dinner. She ordered the shrimp grilled; 3 other preparations are blackened, fried or BBQ. This dinner comes with choice of one side (fried okra for QB). I had crawfish étouffée, which is self explanatory. Usual accompaniment is a scoop of white rice; one can opt (I didn't) for dirty rice as an up charge. QB is glad she got 'em grilled. Ten medium sized shrimp and real, hand breaded okra (not a damn Sysco bag). I didn't get any shrimp and one little okra nugget, so I'll take her word for it. My crawfish étouffée was nicely filling with a rather wimpy, lackluster kick. The roux wasn't too starchy or gloppy; rice a bit sticky but fluffy too. I'm a bit divided on whether I'd return. The missus says yes, because she'd like to try some of the stuff with meat in it, which is a lot of their typically Cajun menu. I wish I could give half stars; I'd give three and a half, but it doesn't get four in my book. Maybe after Easter, when I can have a couple beers to wash it all down. read more

Our waiter was very attentive and gave great service. The food was amazing, again nothing fancy in presentation; but the taste of the food was amazing. I tried the crawfish etouffee, and my spouse had the crabcakes appetizer. We ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer to split. I also tried Samuel Smith Organic Apricot beer. The only thing I found to be too fancy about this place is the cost. Our bill was $57.78 after the tip was included $68.78. That's an expensive lunch, in my opinion. It's rare that I will give 5 stars to a restaurant because there is always something an establishment could improve on, but Cajun Cafe tops the cake. We have been to Cajun Cafe a couple of times since they have been at their new location and we love it. The food is delicious, always made fresh and hot. Lots of flavor and you can definitely tell it's homemade which I love. I had the crab cakes with fries and the crab cakes were delicious and packed with flavor. Cajun Cafe is super clean and the owner does all of the order taking and serving. He is super friendly and runs a great restaurant. I can't wait to go back and try something different. read more

Out in Florida for a vacation and we were craving Cajun. Found this place on yelp! Looked closed from the outside but saw patrons inside so we walked right in. Loved the decor and felt comfy.
