"Give me an alligator sandwich and make it snappy!" Cajun Cafe On The Bayou has everything cajun on the menu. Alligator, crawfish, frogs legs, and Cajun shrimp. I've never tried gator so I had to go with the Gator Sauce Piquant ($22). It had one of those spicy symbols next to it, but that didn't bother me cause I'm 100% Italian. When Paul, the owner came by, he warned me that it was the hottest dish on the menu. I said bring it on! The dish was hot and spicy, but it wasn't overwhelming. The gator chunks were large and flavorful. Gator is now on my list of exotic foods that I like to eat. Served with two huge balls of rice to help absorb the heat, the piquant was definitely an entire meal on its own. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is a mix of hipster and casual[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The wait staff is friendly and the restaurant is family owned Upside App users get 6% cash back

Fried Soft Shell Crab and Crab Cake Combo with Red Beans and Rice

We tried some different dishes on the menu. For a starter, we got a cup of their Gumbo. It was pretty good. For entrees, we ordered the Crab Cakes and the Fried Soft Shell Crab and Crab Cake combo. They were excellent. One thing that caught us a little by surprise was the $5 upcharge for Red Beans and Rice as a side dish. For the price, I don't think the portion size was quite big enough. The Fried Okra was great! The service is always friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is on par with the theme.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The owners are great folks. If you're longing for some Cajun cuisine, this is the place for you.

Trying out there new place. Not as nice as where there were before. We went during lunch right as they opened so got a seat quick. Bree our server was awesome and was very attentive. She had drinks and menus ready. I grabbed the Catfish poboy. Great flavors and was cooked perfectly. Hand a side of jambalaya. Delicious! Deb had the trio sampler which was a little gumbo, jambalaya and red beans & rice. All were delicious. Relaxing place with great food.

Delicious Creole food at Cajun Cafe on the Bayou! While no longer on a bayou, the inside of the family owned and run restaurant was super cute. A lot of the woodwork they did themselves, and it is a cozy and warm atmosphere with some of the nicest staff. As soon as we walked in, we also felt like family and were well taken care of! I got the Creole Shrimp (spicy but definitely bearable and sooo good!) and my husband got Crawfish Étouffée with dirty rice (also delicious, but much richer). To start, we split a few apps: savory Creole gumbo, amazing red beans and rice (deserves to be the star of the show, not just a side), crawfish jalapeño cornbread (SO good and tender, but think more savory than sweet), and lightly fried okra (best I ever had--crispy and salty but not overly battered outside and a soft inside). An incredible (and incredibly filling!) meal! We wanted to try the bread pudding, but there simply wasn't enough space. Also a nice selection of beers to wash it all down with... We will definitely be back!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I have nothing bad to say about this place, the food, the ambiance and the service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My husband is a Louisiana boy and he said the étouffée was on point, my po-boy was delicious, oysters crispy and delicate. We also had the crawfish cornbread and it was to die for, buttery and filled with crawfish tails. We will be back and bringing friends.

    Crawfish Etouffee.. it was wonderful!

Hard to find good Cajun food in the Tampa Bay area... but finally found a place I am happy with.Cajun Cafe on the Bayou (although the new location is not on the bayou). Made reservations for a group of 10 (mostly yelpers) and was told that would probably be split to two tables since thier tables are setup for 6 each. I told them that would not be an issue. We ended up with 7 adults and two kids... and we all sat at one table. It was a little crowded but not bad. The staff was very attentive, and had our drinks on the table fast. After we all decided what to eat, orders were taken efficiently. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee with a side of Okra. And everybody else ordered... most a different dish per person. A basket of fried oysters, fried shrimp and some crawfish cornbread was ordered to keep us happy until the main courses arrived. All the apps were delicious!! Main courses started arriving.... and I wish I could have gotten pictures of everything, but pretty much just got mine, and one of the apps. Every looked wonderful and smelled heavenly! As we started eating, happy smiles broke... I don't think anyone had any complaints. The person closest to me (Paul) had ordered one of the Extra Spicy dishes, Shrimp Creole... and let me try it to check heat level. We both decided (for us) it was about a medium. Others may find it hotter, but it was delicious too! We did not order dessert... although it sounded good! All in all, a wonderful meal... with delightful friends and Yelpers!

    Great sandwich/ Crawfish Po Boy

Ordered a crawfish po boy with fries to go and they were both great. Fries were average, but the Po Boy was the star of the show. Piled high with crawfish and other ingredients and on a tasty roll, this is one place to stop by and try out. They also have a hearty beer selection and a full menu. Recommended for some tasty NOLA cuisine.

This place has been a favorite of mine since I was a little girl. I used to get the oyster Po'boy and was in love but tonight I tried something new. It was perfectly spiced and I'm someone with very little spice tolerance. I ate every bite and couldn't fit any desert in but this is a must go to

AMBIANCE-New Orleans style restaurant. Saints Flags throughout the restaurant. Beautiful pictures and decor everywhere Service- The owner was our waiter and he waited the entire restaurant ALONE. Customer service was top tier. FOOD- Food was amazing, flavorful, not overly spicy but just enough. You won't need to add anything to these dishes. The gumbo and Crawfish cornbread TOGETHER were our favorite. The Po Boy is HUGE and I promise you won't be disappointed. Gator bites were nice size and not full of breading.

We had 11 people in our party so it was a large group. The service was ok. The waitress was assigned more than one table so she was stretched too thin. Drinks were ordered, but the water/tea/lemonade tastes very odd. 5 of the 11 people in our group were kids and ordered chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese or fries. My husband and I shared the Hungry Crab Festival boil. It was delivered separately from the rest of the groups' orders due to being too large to fit on the serving robot. Our food was hot and tasted fantastic. The kids all complained about their mac and cheese being watery and bland. The ones who also got boils said they were fantastic. Someone else ordered the tilapia and said it was ok. Could have used more seasoning. Overall, great for a seafood boil, but appears to be under staffed.

I tried both the gumbo and clam chowder. With a little added salt and pepper both were delicious. For my boil i did sausage, snow crab legs ,shrimp headless, and calamari. Each meat is a 1/2 for the serving. So 2lbs is the max to order at any one time because they charge a fee for wasted food that's over 1/2. Obviously wasn't a problem for us because we got through our boils no problem. We were too full to try dessert but i will be back! It had family style meals on long tables that felt like you joined multiple families at a big feast. We were giant fans of their fried chicken and their hush puppies. Unfortunately, like so many restaurants Po Folks closed their doors forever and our favourite dining place became only a memory. That was until we visited my sister in Saint Petersburg, Florida. While looking for a local restaurant, lo and behold, we found a Po folks! Upon further investigation we found that there are five Po Folks restaurants still in existence and except for the Saint Petersburg location all are in northern Florida. With our expectations off the chart, understanding that memories are often better than the actual events, we visited the Saint Petersburg's Po Folks Restaurant. Although the decor was somewhat different (not as large and the old white and blue chequered design is now red and white), we're happy to report that the food was just as good. The Service: Our server was delightful and happy to hear about our previous experience. She made sure our new experience was just as delightful with our glasses always full and our every request fulfilled in a timely manner. The ambiance.: Po folks is set up to feel like a family dining picnic. Designed to feel like a family dining picnic, it's feel is quite a change from the typical Metro Restaurant experience. The design matches the type of 'cookin' and friendly service to a tee. The food: How we initially found the Saint Petersburg Po Folks came about by a challenge we have faced since our move to Florida and that is finding a well-made whole catfish. In Texas there were many restaurants that offered whole (not filets) catfish to choose from. Not in Florida where we have not found a single restaurant that offers whole catfish. But lo and behold, Po Folks came up when we made our "whole catfish" search. Although not quite as large a catfish as what we are used to in Texas, the catfish was delightfully moist and flaky and easily came off the bone. The fried chicken and fried okra were just as fantastic as we remembered and the hush puppies were moist and a bit sweet, just as we love them. We also tried their lemonade which was well balanced (not too tart or too sweet.). We're sad that there is no Po Folks down in the south Florida area but as my sister said "we'll now be seeing a lot more of you, just be sure to stop in and visit with us along with your visit to Po folks."
