Ipswich whole-belly clam basket with cole slaw
    Robert H.

I came here for the clams, and I got em! I had lately been nostalgic for fried whole-belly clams, which I believe I experienced in Long Island, New York long ago. It could be a false memory, but I doubt it. I searched for "whole belly calms" in Google Maps, and I ended up here. This place is real Florida casual dining, with tidy tropical landscaping screening a nice big patio that is back far enough from the street to be tolerable, and there is a cozy inside dining area. There is the usual music mix playing, and it wasn't too loud. A sign directed us to seat ourselves, and we chose the patio. We were quickly met by our server, Kyle, who had no problem with getting us some tasty beverages before ordering food, and brought my unsweetened Arnold Palmer with no explanation needed. And Kyle kept the icy beverages flowing throughout the meal. Both my sister and I ordered the Ipswitch whole-belly clam basket. She got fries, I got cole slaw. After a welcome drink refill our order arrived. My paper-lined red plastic basket was heaped with crunchy nuggets of clammy goodness. And clammy in a good way. The clams are not funky, like oysters, but they have a delicate taste, with just a hint of the briny shore. And the coating was just right, not overly seasoned, nor too salty, which would cover the taste of the delicate clams inside. And nothing was greasy at all, just crunchy and clammy. My sister gave the meal high marks, and deemed the fries crunchy on the outside and soft inside, not greasy or limp. And I give the cole slaw high marks for not being too wet or creamy, just right when I put some black pepper on it. Casual Clam: RECOMMENDED

I used to come here a lot when I was younger with my parents and since the new management, it is very clear profits are being prioritized over food. Usually my mom can't even finish half her basket of clams and my dad will have his portion and hers, but today, she ate pretty much her entire meal today, and that is completely unseen. I got the salmon and rice and hush puppies. I really liked my salmon and it had a good flavor and texture to it, but the rice was pretty much unseasoned. The hushpuppies were okay, and frankly, most of the food came out warm, and not hot. My salmon seemed to be the only thing that was hot. Everything else was either cold or lukewarm. Unfortunately, this place is just not the same quality it used to be.

Um, don't go here, you'll fall in love and then you'll be crowding the place when I return! Seriously, what an amazing find for us; locals must know about it already, as it was briskly busy, but I imagine most tourists never know about it. Tight interior and a converted partially outdoor garage section for drinking and music make it a real joint, and the very friendly and very fast waitress makes it a gem, but the food, wow wow wow, makes it a treasure! Best onion rings in my life (and I'm old), great hush puppies ('70s style), and we all loved our meals so much we couldn't stop guffawing and sharing... I had the shrimp tacos and, sorry, they were so good that you'll never like anyone else's ever again. My brother had the clam chowder, and he is a nutcase for clam chowder, has tried it everywhere from New Hampshire to Maryland and everywhere in between, and he was raving. I wish I could live next door.

The oysters at The Casual Clam are the best deal in St. Pete -- just $12 a dozen every day! Fresh, cold, and perfectly shucked. Bartender Pat is the real gem here -- friendly, quick, and makes the whole experience even better. Great vibes, great prices, and unbeatable oysters.

Food was phenomenal! We had the fisherman's platter. Mel was extremely helpful and with assistance of Lindsey we enjoyed every bite. First time here, I cannot complain about anything. The fried was delicious and not oily at all. Oysters 10 for $10 ... YUMMO! Understand there is new management and they are making big changes to the place. Stand up people. That's why their staff stayed. Kudos to the owner!

My family and I were looking for a seafood restaurant for dinner, and many people recommended the Casual Clam. When we walked in, we were greeted and promptly taken to our table. Our waitress was extremely nice and helpful, giving great suggestions on what we should try. I ordered the shrimp basket which had large fried shrimp with hush puppies and french fries. The shrimps were fried to perfection and juicy. My family members ordered the crab legs, theCaptains platter, and the shrimp po' boy. The captains platter is a plethora of different fried seafood, such as scallops, fish, and shrimp paired with french fries and onion rings. Needless to say, we had a lot of leftovers we took back. Everything tasted amazing and came out fast.

Its been so long since I have been here. I used to have my office near this place many years ago. So I had the opportunity last week to stop in and just like an old friend it was an awesome experience. The service is still exceptional. The laid back atmosphere still has that cool beach bar vibe. And the Gumbo and Fish Nuggets are as delicious as ever. When youre in St. Petersburg make sure to stop in here for a timeless classic

The Casual Clam is a hidden gem of a spot. When we walked in for lunch, a lady walking out told us that we were in for a treat and she was right. I went for the fried clams and swapped fries for onion rings. The clam strips were good, but I couldn't stop eating the onion rings. They were so good! My mom got fried shrimp and followed my lead on the onion rings and she ate more than I've ever seen her eat. These were very generous portions. She said that they were the best fried shrimp she's ever had, and she agreed with me that the onion rings were awesome. We both want to go back. The reason I'm not giving the Casual Clam 5 stars is a due to a couple things. The bathroom was gross and the place is run down. Also, they allow smoking in the outdoor area, which is where most of their seating is.

What a delight to see that some things never change. Been away for 6 years and came back to see how much has changed. I am so glad to see that this restaurant is still here and thriving. If you can't get to the beach stop in for some of the best and freshest seafood! I will be back so don't change. The service was fast and friendly!

Haven't been here in so long but always loved the food and atmosphere here. We stopped in as they were open after hurricane Ian and it was an awesome day to be outside. Service slow though but they seemed to be short staffed which is understandable. We had some buffalo shrimp, hot! Some clambo which 1/2 gumbo and 1/2 chowder. Delicious!! And a blacked fish sandwich which was very good. Food is still really go

How are the wholebelly clams.....are they New Engkand quality?

They were good not sure if they were New England quality but I enjoyed them

How is their fried chicken sandwich? My hubby has been looking for a good one, with a nice piece of meat. Everywhere we go....they've sucked.

They're really not a landlubber joint, though the wings are good. For a great fried chicken sandwich I go to Beter Byrd on 4th Street.

We started with the dip trio (beet hummus, olive tapenade, and babaganoush with fluffy pita triangles), which was fantastic. Each dip had an awesome flavor, especially the beet hummus. We also got the tahini, date, and cashew salad and loved it. My husband isn't a salad guy and said he'd only have a bite, but then he ate half. The rich and spicy tahini mixed with the sweet date, creamy cashew, and fresh/crisp salad was such a great flavor combo. I will note, they go heavy with the tahini on the salad, but we weren't complaining. I got the zataar salmon for my main. A deliciously spiced zataar crust on top of a delicately flaky salmon made for a wonderful meal. My husband got the kafta en croute, which were ground lamb/beef meatballs surrounded by a flaky pastry and topped with pomegranate over a tahini sauce. I kept stealing bites (which was fine, there was plenty to share) it was so good and such a unique entrée! For drinks, they have uniquely spiced cocktails and mocktails. The drinks took longer to arrive than the food, but they were worth the wait. We were too stuffed for dessert, but next time we want to try their tiramisu (made with Turkish coffee and cardamom). We had a wonderful meal and will be back! The sad thing was that half the restaurant was empty. We think it's a unique addition to DTSP and is definitely worth checking out.
