It's not spicy to me but it does have a kick that you start to feel after eating so many. Also pretty decent size crawfish. The gumbo had a great roux. Not too thick and not too thin. Very flavorful. I added crackers to mine for a bit of a crunch. The service was eh. I personally am not a fan of putting my food on the table but that's what they want you to do. I love this place and have been coming here for years. You tend to see the same people. During peak season, be prepared to wait but its worth you getting fresh not frozen crawfish year round. I've been coming here for years, but recently they started nickel & dimeing you on everything. Charge for lemon wedges, butter and even worse, now they charge you 4% to pay with a credit card bc the owners refuse to eat the cost of credit fees. Advice to the owners - don't be cheap!! How to order Crab Toast at Cajun Craven: 1 order of crab toast with no crab. I basically made a donation to this place because what I received in exchange for my money was a joke. I ordered a 6 piece fried shrimp basket and an order of they're highly acclaimed (sarcasm) Crab Toast. The shrimp in the basket were CLEARLY overdone. Some genius of a cook had to have left them in there for an additional 5 minutes or so and instead of dumping them and starting a fresh batch decided to pack them up and send me home with crispy leather. I want to be clear, I'm not talking like they were just a little extra crispy. Them joints were unyielding on the outside and tasted like shrimp jerky on the inside. A crying shame! And some of y'all need to raise your food standards. Whomever says the crab toast is good is just... hell I don't even know what to call you. I think what people mean to say is the cheese blend used in the crab toast is good, that part is true. However, I was shocked and appalled to see small disc of imitation crab when I open the box. Especially at a place that seemingly prides themselves on their seafood. "Cajun" Craven? No self respecting cajun would ever use imitation crab! Listen- use real crab and charge me a little more or take the crab off altogether and charge me a little less for cheese toast. Or throw the whole menu item away for all I care but that imitation crab is a no-go. Oh and did I mention I waited over an hour for this to-go order? Yep! I'm not fan of the craven sauce here. I have tried many crawfish places in Houston, and this place is just about average. Not really bad but not good either. They used too much flour for sauce thickening, and that's why I didn't like the taste. We ordered 10 lbs of crawfishes, 2 lbs of jumbo shrimps, 4 links of sausage and corns/potatoes. My favorite was the sausage. They were delicious and earned my 3 stars. For crawfishes, I would go somewhere else. Customer service was alright. When asking for togo boxes, they handed me a clear bag for crawfishes. That was it. I had to walk to the cash register to ask for a plastic bag to carry. The andouille sausage was very good. Expect a long wait. It's very popular. And parking is a nightmare. Only a handful of spaces out front and other businesses will have you towed. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! where do I even start... Upon walking in, I wasn't greeted at all. Then, 5 minutes later some girl calls me and points to a table. Isn't basic manners to walk you over to the table? AND she doesn't give us any menus to order. So I'm sitting there for almost 10 minutes and haven't been helped or given a menu. So I go on Yelp to read the menu. Then, we called another lady over and say we haven't been helped and she takes our order. First, the crab toast came out. $4 is not worth it for imitation crab. The garlic toast is cheaper and would've been just as satisfying. Then, they come out with my cup of rice with NO crawfish. My rice sits at the table for 15 minutes (we counted the time) and obviously got cold. Waited a total of 45 minutes for our 2 lbs of crawfish to finally come out. Isn't crawfish one of the simpler seafoods to boil and bring out in a bag. It shouldn't take this long since it's not a complicated meal. I also wanted to order one lb of Cajun flavor and one lb of craven (butter and garlic) but they have a 2 lb minimum. Makes zero sense why I couldn't get one lb of each to try different flavors when I will end up paying the same price anyways. The Cajun flavor was not good. It had a weird smell and the sauce wasn't even red Cajun on the bottom of the bag. It was liquid brown. I had to order two lbs of the same flavor and got stuck with a bad flavor. The ONLY plus was the crawfish were big, but this also meant the claws were harder to bite into with the thicker shells. The bathrooms are gross and seems to not be cleaned frequently since I went in at the beginning of my meal and at the end (span of an hour).There's also only one stall for women and men so you have to wait in line just to wash your hands after your meal. The servers and waiters also never come to check on you. You will maybe see them every ten minutes and have to get their attention. Finally, was ready to pay for the meal and you have to go up to the bar area to do that. Their system was lagging or not working so we had to wait another 5-10 minutes just to pay. POOR management (probably family-run) and below par food. I would never recommend this place to anyone even if they were giving out food for free. read more

My family and I have been there twice. Cons: Service sucked both times. Everything is charged, from your gloves to dipping sauce. They forgot to put in an order and never refilled our drinks. Our batch had a good number of FAT and BIG crawfish. One tip is to order the corn and potatoes in mild because I was crying trying to devour my corn. It soaked up all the spiciness and I couldn't finish it. I'm so glad i found an alternative to Boiling Crab and Jolynns from the Bellaire Chinatown area. Seriously, this place is a must try! I had Sea trout and side salad $8.99 lunch. Oddly, the fried, breaded fillet came in a bowl, not on a plate. Made it weird to cut. It was tasty but not memorable. Side salad was pale green iceberg; the only dressing choice was Ranch. Eh. The interior sports overlit fluorescents. The crowd was thin for a Wed noon, but they appeared to be doing a steady take-out and delivery trade. An annoying mechanical noise was constant from the back. A large-screen plasma TV played a soap opera; the dialogue was quiet but the commercials blasted the dining room. Steel flatware and whiteware plates, but instead of napkins they had unperforated brown towels on the table. Waitress was friendly but kind of scarce. Men's room lights were broken. They did have some impressive taxidermy, and that's always important. Two huge sword fish were colorful, flanking the dining room. Otherwise, not much atmosphere to speak of. Most places, their signature sauce is some variation of a garlic and butter, however, this place actually has a unique sauce that they mix with their crawfish. At the first few bites, I was loving it since it was different, however, as the more I ate, I got really tired of it. It is a mix of garlic butter and sweet and sour. The sour/tangy makes it not as appealing the more you eat. Towards the end, I just peeled the crawfish and dipped it in sauce on the side. Overall, the service was good and the crawfish was fresh. Food was fresh and amazing but the time gap between our meals was unbelievably disappointing.. We ordered crab toast for an app and for entrees, I ordered fried shrimp and fries and my friends ordered boiled shrimp. As soon as I ordered I went to the restroom. One stall each for men and woman and as you know.. there is always a line for the women's room. 10/15 minutes more than likely went by and I returned to the table where my fried shrimp waited. I'm thinking awesome, because I'm hungry but then I realize the crab toast never came and the shrimp for the guys is still missing. We're thinking 'okay, it's busy. No biggie.' A few minutes later the toast comes out. Delicious. Another 20 minutes pass, I can't wait any longer so I start eating my food. Still no boiled shrimp.
