9 times out of 10 they have been great! But i had to take a couple of stars off. The service can leave something to be desired , the last time we went we had to ask someone to bring the check , when our waitress did bring the check she didn't even look over at as she handed it over my friend's shoulder in the general direction of our table while continuing to walk away. I felt that this was pretty rude. Other times we have asked ourselves are they going to take her order before someone actually comes to the table. The reason I'm writing the review however is because of my experience yesterday. Everything we got was undercooked , the eggs were watery and the hash browns or liquid inside. Ok, half my family is from New Orleans, so I have spent more than a lot of time there. My main reason for visiting New Orleans is the amazing food. I ate here this morning and it is TOP TIER! I got the jambalaya with eggs breakfast, and it was amazing! I expected maybe one small shrimp and a tiny bit of chicken and sausage. But no! It is full if good quality shrimp and meats! And the perfect amount of spiciness. I am a visitor to this town, but I will be making many return visits, just for this place! I can't wait to try their gumbo and shrimp po- boy! It's hard to find good brunch out in the Isla Vista/Goleta area that fulfills three criteria: a fair price, delicious flavors, and being the cause of bloatation. Cajun Kitchen nails all three on the head with their Southern cuisine, and I was happy to leave the dinky Kmart plaza with a full belly. My friends and I came on a Sunday at 12:30, and the wait was about half an hour long. Their hostesses are good at shuttling people in and out, without rushing parties to leave. They have miniature menus for you to grab near the register at the front of the store, so you can take a look while you wait for your food. During this time, decide if you can fit beignets into your belly, and get them when they come to take your order. Then probably regret fitting it into your stomach, but whatever. It's worth it. I wouldn't know because my stomach couldn't offer the opportunity to eat the beignets, but I ate it visually. Through Yelp photos. We got the country fried steak with sausage gravy, over easy eggs, and hash browns, fried chicken and waffles, and the file gumbo. All three were savory, and I'd say the star of the first dish was the thick sausage gravy. In fact, when I cut into the steak for my first taste, I was surprised at how mushy it was until I realized that I'd literally just cut into a very thick patch of gravy. The strawberries on the chicken and waffles stole the show, and the gumbo was filled with sausage and chicken. Also, special shoutout to the cornbread. It was amazing. Eat it hot with the butter, because it's so, so, SO good. I'd likely not recommend the steak again just because the gravy overpowered everything, ultimately making the steak pretty soggy. However, I'm sure one of the fried chicken dishes will be next on my list for when The Shop downtown feels too far. Came here on vacation. Disappointed all around. Service was horrible. Food is terrible. Don't get bread here. Shrimp po boy and fries: STALE OLD BREAD , overbattered shrimp with MUSHY STEAK FRIES and a couple of tomatoes and lettuce pieces. The best thing on this plate were the tomatoes. The fries were so gross (think elementary school cafeteria). The. Bread was dense, too big for the plate and ... we spotted a MOLD SPORE. it was green, Not black, and on the edge of the bread. We had already eaten the other half before we noticed. When we pointed it out, they immediately took it to the back. No one came to apologize or say anything. One server came back to ask "is everything ok" but did not acknowledge our complaint. Instead, the item remained on the bill and we had to speak to the manager. The manager was not apologetic. He says it was black and it was rubbed off from the tray the bread had been sitting on. That didn't fit what we saw - a round green spore on the end of a slice loaf piece. None of the rest of the bread had any markings.I wish I had gotten a close up photo of the mold spore. He eventually agreed to take the item off but insisted the dot was not mold because his chef said it wasn't. Oh ok, the four of us know mold when we see it. Beignets - the best thing they have on the menu probably. Fried fresh to order so def killing any bacteria. Cornbread: gross boxed mix consistency - dried, flavorless. Not coming back, ever but if you find yourself stuck here get the jambalaya or the shrimp/sausage and grits. They're of passing grade but not amazing. Their service is what got to me. If it's a mistake and you served moldy bread then admit it. If it's a mistake and something else green touched it then admit it. To flat out deny, ignore us and then charge us for the dish and pretend we wouldn't say anything isn't OK. Do something to make us want to give you a second chance. You did nothing of the sort. We got right in on a Friday morning, servers were nice and got our orders quickly and all correct. The 3 sentence review: This place is a perfect breakfast/brunch place! You need to treaty yo' self and start with the beignets because they are so delicious. The fried chicken benedict is super yummy and filling so I'd recommend sharing this one, unless you are are super super hungry. ATMOSPHERE: There's a free parking lot. The servers are super friendly. The only reason I'm not giving this place a 5 star is because the service was a little slow and it wasn't very crowded when my friend and i went. This restaurant refuses to serve Blacks. The waitstaff treat Black customers with open contempt and with hostile attitudes. It is standard practice for waitstaff to pretend that Black who want to eat inside are invisible or will generally ignore Black customers, even the ones who are coming to pick up online orders. The waitstaff routinely tell Blacks who choose to dine in will tell them there are no more seats available. When there are available ones, the waitstaff will avoid serving Blacks in favor of Whites. In fact the waitstaff will spend an inordinate amount of time refilling drinks, ensuring they have clean plates and silverware, plenty of napkins, and even offering dessert suggestions. Not so with Blacks. In fact the servers never come around to check back. Black customers have to go to the front cashier and pay for food before leaving. Upon leaving, the waitstaff exude a "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" attitude. Avoid this place. Although I live five minutes away from this location, I've only just gone for the first time today! Luckily enough, we didn't have to wait long. Service is fast and you can tell the waitresses try to seat you as soon as possible. Everyone is very friendly and the atmosphere is great for families, college students, even for a date! There is outdoor and indoor seating. I ordered the salmon omelette with blueberry muffins and hash browns($12.75). The hash browns were cooked to a crisp and the blueberry muffins were delicious. And can I add their homemade jam or whatever it is they provide with the muffins were HEAVENLY. I may say my favorite part of my meal. The salmon omelette too was delicious. Packed with lots of salmon and with some creamy sauce and spinach on the inside. Also, I LOVE the sauces they have to offer! They have a hot pepper sauce from Louisiana, some creole (?) seasoning, Cholula, Tapatio, Ketchup, and more! They definitely incorporate the Cajun twist into their sauces. Service was standard but the real highlight here was the food......the glorious food. Prices are VERY reasonable for what you get. I ordered the jambalaya for about $11.50. Massive portion of jambalaya (VERY spicy) -- tender chicken, sausage, shrimp. Really impressed. Included was a big hunk of cornbread served w/ apple butter. I've never been to NOLA, but I can't imagine it being much better than this. Even got a chance to sit outside and enjoy the nice day in Santa Barbara. This place is always crowded when I come so be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes sometimes. One of my fave breakfasts is eggs Benedict, so naturally I ordered the California eggs Benedict. Avocados and tomatoes? Hell yes! The hollandaise sauce (the yellow sauce on top) wasn't impressive to me. I think it could definitely use some more lemon for a little more of a kick. But the eggs were cooked beautifully, and the hash brown sides are always nice and crispy. I also tried the beignets with strawberries and bananas. They came out nice and hot. Definitely better with syrup. I'd give this place 5 stars if their hollandaise sauce were better (because it's a very important matter to me lol). Came here from West Covina for brunch while visiting my cousin for the weekend. Nice atmosphere, busy around 10am on a Saturday. With a big appetite I ordered the California Eggs Benedict and shared an order of beignets with all the toppings on them. Splitting that with 2 others, plus my main entree was very filling, in a good way of course. The beignets came with syrup (or was that caramel drizzle??), whipped cream, sliced bananas and strawberries. The texture and flavors all blended in so well, I was a happy fellla. The California Eggs Benedict were your standard eggs benedict but with tomato and avocado. It hit the spot. Staff was very friendly. I had an unplanned overnight layover at the Santa Barbara airport and scheduled an early morning departure. I'm not from the area so searched Yelp for something unique near the airport. I was intrigued by the Cajun Kitchen's reviews - Jambalaya and eggs for a 6am breakfast? I arrived at 5:55am as the restaurant was opening. I was the only patron and was greeted by two male staff prepping for the day ahead. I sat at the counter and glanced the menu, already knowing I had to try the Jambalaya with an over-easy pair on top. As I waited for the meal to arrive I checked the place a bit. Tables were neat and tidy, restroom clean. Lots of "Best Of..." awards hanging from the walls. This place lacks in ambience a bit, a strip mall fast food joint feel from the outside, but the food more than made up for the decor. The jambalaya was fresh, hot and oh so good. I was in New Orleans a few weeks ago and this meal took me right back to that happy place again. A good quantity of large shrimp, mirepoix, andouille and chicken. The flavor profile was excellent. The eggs were more fried than easy, but who am I kidding, I was there for the Jambalaya anyway. I ordered a biscuit instead of toast, and it was hot and fresh with some sweet tasty apple butter that paired well with the zesty flavors in the bowl. They buy the apple butter from a local grower/supplier, but make the biscuits fresh in-house. When I'm in Santa Barbara/Goleta I'll stop in and order the same thing again! read more

I tried to secretly eat all of it so I didn't have to share with my friends... heh. - Shrimp and grits: I'm not a big fan of grits, but this dish was quite delightful. My best friend loved it! - Waffles with strawberries: unlike the usual waffles you get at Denny's, the waffles here were light and airy. The strawberries and whipped cream were awesome with the waffles. - Biscuits and gravy: unlike Mesa Cafe's biscuits and gravy, this was bomb dot com. Cajun Kitchen is a great place to go for weekend breakfast/brunch. They have a wide selection of breakfast dishes, both sweet and savory, which come with sides all mostly under $10. They have lunch sandwiches and other specialties as well, but personally in my dozens of visits I've never strayed from their breakfast because of how consistently tasty it is. The home fries and house-made salsa are a must have as side dishes, as well as their cornbread and blueberry muffins. Great food, reasonably priced, large portions. Quick service. Try the beignets - fresh, puffy donut-like treat covered in powdered sugar and served with syrup. One thing to keep in mind is that there can be a very long wait, especially during the school year at UCSB. Also the cashier does not like having to split checks, which is something that is pretty common in this college town. So maybe start separate checks when ya order. read more

This location is crowded. Wait time was approximately 20-30 minutes tops. Customer Service was speedy and normal, nothing in particular. Food, on the other hand, was delicious. I enjoyed their scrambled eggs with potatoes. Corn Bread is huge, never could finish it with apple butter as well. The food is heavy with lots of calories. I wouldn't mind eating their breakfast on a daily basis if I didn't care too much of my calorie intake. Enjoyed every bit of it though. Would be coming back when I visit Santa Barbara again.
