This is a great spot for brunch with friends and family. I came here on a Thursday afternoon and this place was packed, especially considering that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. This is definitely a popular spot for the UCSB and Goleta area. I got the Jambalaya and Eggs and decided to also get the cornbread that comes with it. I truly don't see how people can rate this place highly. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. There is NOTHING Cajun about this restaurant whatsoever. It's a mostly Mexican restaurant with burritos, chorizo, etc... they have SOME "creole" items on the menu, however any chef from NOLA would be outraged and how it is prepared. Their "Gumbo" is more of a chicken and sausage soup. It had literally no roux and was watery. I've dined at MANY a Cajun restaurant and had NEVER seen Mexican food items on the menu. Two Words: Blueberry Muffins I have been to all of the Cajun locations. This is the best one to get their blueberry muffins. The one downtown is large, but it doesn't melt in my mouth like the one in Goleta serves you. There is a college crowd because it is so close to Isla Vista. My friend has received a bad waitressing service. But, that was because he was hungover. As long as you smile, you will get top-notch service. I have tried quite a few items here, my favorite is probably the Jambalaya. Yes, it is kind of greasy and carb-licious, but it is savory. Their butter is quite fresh and I normally do not eat butter, but daaaang. It's all fresh and whipped, ready-to-eat. If you want something light, don't waste your time by going here. I don't know how Cajun the kitchen is, but it's the perfect breakfast spot in Goleta. I had the Scott's avocado, mushroom, and cheddar omelette with taters and cornbread. Everything was delicious. I loved the cornbread, and my friend's flaky biscuit was tasty too. The mushrooms on the omelette in particular were very flavorful - tiny round dark button mushrooms, not the normal large white criminis, and not chopped up too small - I loved them. I didn't expect to have a 5-star breakfast experience, but there you go, a perfect little brunch spot. I can still taste the corn bread and those mushrooms . . . And our waitress was an Irish lass with a nice, thick accent. You don't expect that in Goleta, much less at the Cajun Kitchen, but it was a welcome surprise! Great, quick service too. read more

Biscuitsssssssssssss. I could leave it at that but I will go on. This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside it is cozy with a nice-sized patio. The service is fast and for our group of six they got everything exactly right. It is ALWAYS packed which to me is a good sign. They have a nice basic eggs, potatoes and your choice of carb breakfast that you can then customize to add meat if you wish. Mine was absolutely huge--I couldn't finish my potatoes and the biscuit was massive and warm and served with apple butter. Fresh apple butter? I was in heaven. I would go there just for that. The breakfast burrito, cornbread and beignets all looked tasty as well. I can tell you from what I saw on others plates that when you order sausage you get about five links, so they're not skimping out on that front. Honestly though, I could care less whether this place was Cajun or not because our non-Cajun breakfast was great! Ok so we could have chosen fresh homemade cornbread to make the meal a bit more Cajun but, that wouldn't have gone with the rest of our American breakfast choices. So, blueberry muffins it was. And when I say muffins, I mean ONE meal comes out with TWO big freshly baked blueberry muffins. Is that really necessary? No... but, the more food the better. And they're super tasty! The pancakes are seriously the thickest I've ever seen. These things are at least a good inch thick. Pancakes in general fill me up pretty fast but, these monsters put you into instant food coma mode before you even get halfway through. They have a great variety of scrambles and omelets to choose from. Crazy Shirley's scramble is the bomb! The combination of mushrooms, spinach, and feta cheese go great together in this scramble. Get some of their perfectly crispy hashbrowns to go along with it and you're all set for a perfect breakfast! Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous, making any meal here a fantastic value. For a moment I felt that shot of panic that I usually feel nowadays when I go to EDM festivals - wow, maybe I'm too old to be here. mmMmm! Jambalaya! Goleta doesn't seem to have much to offer but the cajun food here is delish. Not only do they have a big breakfast menu but they also offer other tasty items such as jambalaya, gumbo, creole entrees.. I tried the Jambalaya which was very tasty. It has a little kick to it (spice wise). Definitely not bland but a little watery for my taste. Lots of sausage and little shrimpies floating around. It was served with cornbread (which was pretty tasty, nothing special though). All for about $8, I believe! The breakfast menu looked very convincing. My friend got a breakfast entree. Just an ordinary breakfast spot. I ordered the Cajun Pizza. I am not sure how this was supposed to look like, or what was so Cajun about it. It was just a mesh of everything. This everything was good, but it just looked like a really big omelet on a plate. Not sure where the pizza part comes in, and I couldn't even taste the Cajun spices. The meal was nothing special. My favorite breakfast place in Goleta. The omelets with avocado are scrumptious, and I love the blueberry wheat germ pancakes. Check the specials on the chalkboard-- they often have yummy and creative stuff up there, but they won't tell you about them unless you ask. Downsides: There is usually quite a wait for breakfast on the weekends, but that's to be expected with any place worth going to. I've gotten "fresh" fruit as a side that wasn't so fresh, but they were quick to take it off the bill. And for someone who's used to drinking Peet's, the coffee is a bit weak. One of my favorite Santa Barbara breakfast hang-outs. The wait-staff here is very nice and never, ever, questioned my request for a "coke and muffin STAT!" The food here is great, everyone I ever lived with loved this place. I will admit that the wait can sometimes be painful, especially if your larger than a party of 2. I know that options are limited around Goleta and IV, but this place was much better than expected. The coffee was standard diner fare, just shy of a mixture of tar and paint thinner. The muffins were ok, and the Corn bread was better than average. I ordered a scramble and my Girlfriend ordered an omelet. Both were fairly good. The plus here is that it was really busy and there was a lot of good energy. Overall, it was a decent breakfast place in an often sub par food area, and service is what you would expect from a place next to KMART. The highlight of the experience came from a patron outside after the meal. He was driving a fixed up Dodge neon with Ferrari stickers on the side fender, wheels, hood and trunk. HE thought he was really cool, until some guy next to me yelled out "that's not a Ferrari", eliciting the guy to scowl and peel out. A full stomach and a comical Goleta moment made the drive north that much easier. read more

I've been to Cajun many many times just because it's the closest breakfast place to my house and it's relatively good. Put my name on the list and was told that the wait would be 15 minutes. Somehow that turned into a 45 minute wait and we were seeing groups of my size being sat before us despite them arriving after us. Finally we're seated and wait another 5 minutes for water and 10 for our waitress to show up. While ordering the waitress seemingly talked over us like she had to go in a certain order while putting in our requests? Food takes about 40 mins to get out. I got the Cali eggs Benedict, decent. Thankfully the "bin-yays" were delicious as usual. We go to pay for the bill and this was the worst part. We split the bill 3 ways, but she kept putting it in wrong and she had to keep refunding and taking things off and just a totally nightmare. It was busy so we were very patient but after sitting for a decent meal for MUCH longer than we had intended, the bill added an extra 20 minutes. Overall turned out to be about a 2 hour trip. read more

Saturday and sunday morning can be pretty busy and you most likely will have to wait. And its first come first served, no reservations. Weekdays are generally slower. Authenticity: I've never been to Louisiana, but I can't imagine how much better it could get! I especially like the cajun spices used on the shrimp po boy. Price: Decent price for large servings. Being a small girl, every time I order, I always have leftovers for the next meal and I really appreciate that. Most of their breakfast orders comes with home fries or hash browns AND toast, blueberry muffin, corn bread or biscuit. Their omelets and scrambles are super big and a must. My favs are the Steve's Special, Les' omelet and Shrimp Po Boy (lunch). I recently had the Chicken Fried Steak and it was yummy! Nice and crunchy with a wonderful gravy. Service is normally pretty spot-on, too. It's not the best Cajun place in SB, though. Palace Grill is amazing and I can't get over it, but it is very pricey compared to here.
