I was able to order my wedding cake through Dawn a couple of weeks before my wedding. She was able to answer all my questions via email since I live in Washington. She made the process so easy, even though I was worried about taste and design since I wasn't in the same state. My worries were unfounded! My husband was able to pick up the cakes the morning of our wedding (they also offer delivery). The design was perfect, and the cakes we ordered were delicious. In addition, this company was much cheaper than some other companies we were researching. I wish I could give this place a -50 stars. Granted this dates back to 2006, but the event was a very big day for me, as it was our wedding day. Cake is one of my favorite foods in the entire world and I knew this cake had to be perfect, it was my wedding day after all! My husband and I tried cakes from all over and we found the perfect cake at a French bakery, but the price was way out of our range. (If I knew what I know now, I would have splurged!) Cake Designs by Ruth was recommended to me by a coworker that was married a few years before. We met with Ruth and I had her make a small cake that I could take home and share with some family to see what people thought. It was a white cake, with fresh strawberries inside and white buttercream on the outside. The cake was delicious (there were 6 of us that tried it... all family) and the price was right, so I called Ruth and placed the order. I was so excited! But when I showed up to my reception, the cake wasn't there. I got on the phone and Ruth said the cake should be there any minute. (I had set a time before the wedding for the cake to be there probably 2 hours before our arrival). The cake came, the guy set it up and the cake was LEANING like the freakin TOWER OF PISA! Everyone just stared at it. Such an eyesore. When we cut into the cake, it had a weird taste. It turns out they separated the layers with CARDBOARD! WTF?!?!?!?!?!? So the entire cake had a slight taste of cardboard. Disgusting. No one ate the cake and I was embarrassed. The reception place said it was extremely hard to cut the cake because of the cardboard. I went under my table at the reception, called Ruth and I left this horrendous message (I shouldn't have been saying some of those things while in my wedding dress!) I was so angry. Of course, she never returned my call. So the next day I called Ruth and she did NOT want to give me a refund after all of the things. After about an hour and a half on the phone with this horrible woman, I was finally able to get a refund. Maybe they have cleaned up their act since 2006, but I would never recommend this place to ANYONE! read more

our wedding cake was included in our wedding package through the venue. i was both relieved and concerned about not picking the bakery myself. but my concern completely dissipated as soon as we met with our cake designer. unfortunately, i can't remember her name. she was helpful, pleasant, extremely knowledgeable and full of great ideas! when we met with her she was in a chef's apron and her hands were stained from coloring. i knew right away that we were in extremely good hands! i knew i wanted cupcakes and my hubby knew he wanted red velvet, which worked out great since our wedding color palette included red. we didn't do a tasting so we just told her that we preferred fluffy, moist cake with whipped topping over dense, sugary, sweet cake with buttercream. again, i was concerned but they delivered exactly what we asked for and more. the majority of the compliments we received from our guests were about how amazing the cupcakes were. thanks goodness we ordered extra because our guests were fighting over cupcakes to take home with them. on our one year anniversary, i ordered a dozen of the same cupcakes and they were identical to the ones we had at our wedding and just as tasty. the hubby and i were so impressed that they were able to recreate our wedding cupcakes an entire year later. it brought back great memories of the best day of our lives. i also ordered a cake for my friend's bridal shower that i was hosting in los angeles. i worked with the cake designer to come up with the design and she did an amazing job. the cake flavors (lemon cake with raspberry filling) were superb and the design came out exactly the way i wanted. the best part, it survived the 4 hour drive to los angeles and the overnight stay in the fridge. cake designs is my go-to cake spot for any event. read more

First they got my wedding date incorrect, even though i had repeated the date multiple times, ehich meant my wedding cake was done over a week early! Than both ladies, Dawn&her sister, argued with me about my wedding date. I'm the one who was getting married, i know the correct date. The design on the cake was gorgeous but the flowers on top were supposed to be made of fondant not fake flowers i could buy at Michaels. Our office is based in Austin, TX but we had a work convention in Las Vegas in February and my friend/coworker's fell in the middle of our trip. I was looking for a place to get her a birthday cake and this place was close to the Rio where we were staying. I contacted Cake Designs via email the week before, hoping they had enough time to help us out! I was dangerously close to the 5 day cut off. Dawn responded saying she was available and I was so relieved! I didn't have any idea what kind of decor I wanted but just told her to avoid pink and gave her some creative freedom to do whatever. My coworker picked up the cake and brought it to dinner one night. He opened the box and oh my gosh it looked amazing!! She did scroll work all over the cake in red and tied it all together with a black ribbon around the bottom. I was definitely impressed with the appearance and couldn't wait to taste it. We had chosen a white cake with strawberry filling and a whipped icing. It was incredible! I don't often eat sweets or cake but this was one of the most delicious cakes I've ever had! More importantly the birthday girl was blown away! Dawn's cakes are fantastic in both taste and appearance, and her creative and intricate decor was.... the icing on the cake. :-) read more
