Calbay is such an iconic company imo. Lived in the bay for a decade and haven't encountered any company this polite and fair up until rented an apt in Lodato ave, San Mateo. Qualities so hard to find in any rental apartment complex honestly. Lodato ave apartments are remodeled, clean and safe with great location! Scott from Cal Bay Property Management responded to my concerns and set up a meeting with me to talk through the issues. There an an incident that happened on the premises that alarmed me and created some concerns. I emailed Scott with the issues and we talked through an action plan to cover that along with several other maintenance issues. So far, I've seen progress on what we've talked about and improvements on the premises from reflective marks on stairwells to exterior lights that illuminate the premises on time. There have also been appointment that I've set for maintenance requests in my apartment that were met on time so I didn't have to reschedule. We moved in to the San Carlos location a couple of months ago. Gustavo has been amazing since the very first phone call I had with him to schedule a tour of the unit. He has been so great, his description of the unit over the phone were accurate. He makes himself very available and is very responsive, regardless of what you need. CalBay PM has made my move in and move out process pretty easy from beginning to end. I lived at one the complexes they managed near Rose Garden area in San Jose, CA. The unit was refurbished, and I was one of the first tenants to occupy the refurbished unit, never had any major issues inside the unit since it was new and very clean. I think I contacted the PM once during the two years I lived there to fix some gutters outside that were draining to my front door, and they had a handyman over the next say addressing issue. They would always email or text us in advance if any major work was being done on the complex, so tenants were prepared. Overall, had a good experience. read more

I lived in the Lodato Apartments for years and did not have any problems with Cal Bay. They knew I was a long time tenant and appreciated that, including minimal rent increases. You hear all the stories of giving low rent to new tenants, then large increases when the one year lease goes to month to month - not the case with Cal Bay. I was also given ample warning of any work that need to be done on the building, things like temporary power or water outages from the city. The day to day maintenance and handling requests were managed by the on-site property manager Gustavo. He was fantastic. Any issues he would handle immediately. He was also proactive in addressing things before there was a possible problem, staying very active all the time. But what separated Gustavo was that he was a genuinely nice person who understood concerns and wanted to make your stay pleasant. Any tenant would be fortunate to have him as your property manager. read more

My wife and I moved in to the newly remodeled apartments in Mountain View (San Luis location) and have been living there for about 10 months now. It's been a great experience so far and we've received excellent support from both Tanya (Property Manager) and Scott Safadi (who I believe runs this business quite well). The apartment itself is very cute, with a nice patio (we're on the second floor), and newly installed cabinets and kitchen appliances. We also have a washer/dryer (although they are very tiny and we have to run multiple loads each time) - but its better than having community washer/dryers for sure! Having two bathrooms is a huge plus and has helped us a lot when we have had guests. The apartments have excellent sound insulation - we have never heard our neighbors, or have neighbors complain to us about noise issues. Things are really quiet and peaceful around here - new apartments built across from us look nice and the surrounding environment is very amiable. There are very few shortcomings but I would say that I miss having amenities like a gym and hot tub. I have friends paying similar rents but they have access to these amenities although their apartments are smaller and not as well sound insulated so I think that evens it out. :) Tanya is very responsive and has helped us resolve multiple issues very quickly. We were scared that wasps were making our patio their home, so the exterminators were called and things were taken of promptly. Another time we had some plumbing issues (water didn't drain) and one of the closet clothes hanging rods was coming off, and I'm pleased to say that both of those issues were addressed quickly. Scott is also very sharp and on the ball - when we first moved in, there was a different property manager and although they were nice, none of our problems were getting fixed. I believe Scott noticed that right away, and a new property manager (Tanya) was hired. We used to have terrible trash problems - trash used to be on the streets because the communal trash cans were overflowing and wasn't being collected. These problems were immediately taken care of by Tanya (thanks so much for doing that!) and it prevented other unnecessary problems from arising. Overall, we feel like we get good value for our place and will continue to live here (hopefully for a few years)! We recommend this location and management and would rent from them again for sure.
