If you're a potential renter, please be aware! My significant other and I looked at a property in San Jose that had been on the market for a while, we liked it so we put in an our applications. We got confirmation that they ran our credit and our paystub information. A week goes by and we hear nothing, I asked my SO to reach out and he did. The lady Irene told my SO there is a pet policy he needs to sign ( we don't have a pet) and that we are all set after that. Another few days go by and nothing. So I reach out to the number provided during the booking of the showing, no response. So now it has been almost 2 weeks since we submitted our applications and nada. I decided to reach out today and ask again. Below is the text message I received, even after giving my name preemptively, they still asked. Ironically it wasn't denied until I reached out, and they sent me a denial letter for an address I didn't even apply to. Unfortunately some of the worst property management I've worked with. First I started with booking an appointment to view a property in which I was delayed an answer till 20 minutes before the actual viewing time. I liked the property so I applied that same day in which I was connected with Irene Llanes. I was very communicative and available for whatever was needed of me. I uploaded my paystubs one day once it was asked of me and a few days had passed with no response so I contacted Irene who told me that it didn't go through and to try again. So my confusion was why I had to be the one to reach out and her not tell me anything. So I reloaded the paystubs again to which they didn't go through again for some reason. I asked her if there was any other way I could send them or if there was anything else I could do on my end to help, no response. I followed up the next day to see if there was a solution we can agree on and yet again, no response. I had called or emailed on multiple occasion for different reasons with no response from Irene. Even though I was on top of my application status, Irene failed to care and I ended up having to stay at a friends place because my lease came to an end and because of Irene's lack of responding. I own a four-plex in Cupertino and as a retiree, this is my main source of my income. Comparing to my former manager, I found keyrenter has a very effective system for their unit turn and management. From property inspection to their tenant placement, it has been done again and again and the result has been excellent! I have also met their maintenance team and I have always happy with their work. Our experience was very unfortunate, as it was mentioned below all conversations via email, SMS. If you have a chance to reach out to the representative, he can hardly understand what you are talking about. Have no updated information about the property, fill in an application, and we will contact you. Even if you submit the application, they will charge you $45 per applicant, promise to send the background check, and never come back to you. I have to schedule a tour for another property and have got 2 different messages, one said the house no longer available, another 5min later, please schedule a tour and time, as mandatory information they requested credit card information, with a notification that they authorize it. Hardly recommend before any payments talk to the representative and make sure that property still on the market. Update: Our money has been returned, I hope that it won't happen again with other customers. read more

WORTH THE READ IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.... My abhorrence for Key Renters is due to the immense amount of stress they have caused as well as from the worst experience possible. My lease with Key Renters was from September 23, 2019-July 31st, 2020. I have so much to say about this company but I'll try my best to keep it short and sweet. I was a tenant so this review is for my fellow tenants out there. If you are an owner, you may have a different experience as it is pretty clear they care more about making the owners happy. Now I will address the issues that broke California law.... By far the worst issue had to do with the security deposit. My security deposit was 3,800.00 and they only planned to give me back 1,995.00. The first bill was $705 in repairs. The second bill was $450 for Target Painting. Third bill is $650 for a cleaning service. I am attaching pictures below. These bills are so outrageous that my roommates and I were actually laughing. It is so obvious they were attempting to take advantage of us. The itemization in the Target Painting bill is clearly for normal wear and tear. As per California law, a landlord cannot charge for normal wear and tear. They know we are young and probably thought we were dumb or wouldn't notice. Well they thought wrong! I immediately sent an email to Stefani Hemphill for a re-evaluation or legal action may be pursued. To which she fell for and immediately responded saying that they will refund the target painting bill. They were so quick to say they will refund us $450 which clearly shows they are SCAMMERS. It still took weeks to settle this matter as Stefani Hemphill said she would send out the new checks and never did until I asked where they were 12 days later. (See attached photos) If you're still here reading then I thank you for continuing to read about my atrocious experience. But wait there's more...these are some of the other issues that I had. 1. House was furnished & completely filthy. They made us store all the owners crap in the garage (violating their own lease as it said the garage was only for the storage of cars) 2. Only communicated with the main tenant even though there were 3 other people on the lease. 3. Nadja Prophete tried to deny my boyfriends emotional support animal. (Claimed stories didn't add up but didn't talk to the person who actually owned the dog.. that makes total sense) 4. Scams you on paying $10 a month for HVAC filters but never received one. Then had the audacity to email at the end of the lease asking for the filter size.. 5. Showed up multiple times to one of their properties and every single time the code did not work for the viewing. They kept telling us to come back another day and the problem was never fixed. 6. They demod the whole master bath vanity due to a small SURFACE crack in the sink. Enjoy that new vanity girl. 7. Horrible horrible horrible horrible communication skills. As soon as you sign a lease, you can say goodbye to at least half of your deposit money. I regret ever signing a lease with this company and putting my money into the hands of untrustworthy people!!!! You live and you learn. read more

Yelp Do not hire Keyrenter! I have never had such a difficult time. I hired them to handle my property & rent it out. Two months later, I had no tenant, an unpaid water bill of $344, and a lawn that cost $2400 to sod. And I paid them over $1500 in fees, along with $600 to change the locks. They told me my house could rent for $3200 a month and then charged my tenant $3400, keeping the extra for themselves- in addition to the monthly management fee. This was my first concern they weren't honest. They claimed it was for air filters. However, clearly the filters were never changed. My air conditioning failed due to a dirty filter just two months after the tenant moved in. First, they charged me $600 to rekey the locks. They never disclosed this expense to me. Then they signed a contract with a pool vendor but neglected to inform me about the contract terms- which included a $2,000 additional expense NEVER disclosed to me. Finally, items were stolen from my shed. I was assured my belongings would be secure by the property manager. I was not notified of the break in and Chapin refused to assist me in obtaining a police report. He completely failed me as a landlord. The tenant was responsible for lawn care and let my yard die, as well as all my plants. It cost me $2400 to sod the dead lawn. The tenant also installed a satellite dish without asking permission as per the lease. Finally, the water bill was never paid by the tenant and I was left with a $344 past due bill. Chapin did not withhold any of the deposit for me to cure these violations. I will now have to sue him. I've never dealt with someone that I paid who seemed to be working against me. It's a tough situation when you are 2000 miles away, and have a property manager you can't trust. Run! read more

STAY AWAY. They are either scammer or really bad property management. They don't reposed to any txt, call or emails. lack of professionalism just to give more contest and an update. 1- There weren't any response from Irene to give an update about readiness of the apt after I refused to pay the deposit for an apt that wasn't ready even though I asked several questions on my email. I reached out to Edward for an update and there were some scatter responses. 2- I couldn't see the apartment on 1/17 ( the apartment supposed to be ready by 1/6 and 1/17 was 11 days after that). I had an appointment for 1/17 and confirmation for that appointment. I couldn't get in and the only response was "You have not been authorized to receive a code". The hallway was still dirty (I could guess how bad the inside of the apartment would be after 11 days of waiting). Leo called me at night (when they weren't supposed to have coverage, just keep in mind that they are a rental property management which doesn't have a night coverage when it's not convenient for them) to tell me that they have done everything right and I should take down this review. He wasn't sorry for wasting my time, forgetting to approve my viewing or lack of response from Irene and Edward. He only wanted to make his point. I reached to to this property management feb 26 to view a property i did get get a fast response from irene but after that went downhill. paid and turned in the application we were told the process takes about 2-3 business days but it is now march 8 me and my husband both left numerous texts and voicemails and got no responses. we were in contact with Irene and after a couple days we called the office number and nobody would pick up either nor nobody would respond to our voicemails that we left .The only response we got was yesterday when they texted us back saying they would give us a response today. It is now 6:30 PM. We have not gotten a phone call nor an email saying if we were able to get this property or it's or even rented out to another person. Don't waste your money on applying to any property that this management overseas. I also current rent at luxury building paying about 1k more than the unit i applied for. I know what i can qualify for and what i can't I wouldn't waste my time applying to something that i know i wouldn't qualify for. They also used the excuse of your landlords rental certification haven't responded but actually im a really great tenant and my previous landlord told me he never received any emails phone calls or voicemails and texts from this property management not sure what was going on there!!! read more

I have been with this company for almost two years and have never written a review until now! Theresa came to my home and fixed a long standing eyesore that many people on the maintenance team found quick fixes for rather than resolve or restore. This company is grossly incompetent and completely unfair to their tenants. This will be long, as there have been numerous problems. Dozens of issues we have had, have not been taken care of in a timely manner, but if there is something that the tenants have control over, the sky is falling for Keyrenter's, and they will not stop hounding you. First, the home was not cleaned when we moved in and had to do it ourselves. Then within a month of moving in, the dryer broke. The maintenance company arrived, only for the technician to tell me that Keyrenter's would not answer the phone and approve the repairs. Went 2 full weeks without working laundry and had to go to a laundromat. Our home has a water filter for the refrigerator. We requested to have a new one as it needed to be replaced, and it took them 3.5 months just to text me "sorry, we're really busy right now, can you order it yourself and send the receipt to have it deducted from the rent?" How insane is that? You can't have people do their job? You can't order it then mail it to us? We have to do the work? What's the point of paying for maintenance when they don't do squat? Don't you guys care about the health and safety of your tenants? Your actions prove the exact opposite. One final MASSIVE issue, is that just this past month, they took 2 months rent out of my bank account in error, and they still haven't put the money back into my account. Was told I would have a response yesterday and the money back, but now I am being ignored. If this company had any respect for who they service, they would resolve this issue immediately, yet they evidently do not. This company is a scam. read more

We lived in a property managed by Keyrenter for three years and, in comparison to other management companies, there is a room for improvements. Our experience wasn't terrible but certain aspects were disappointing. A few notable examples: - They "forgot" about our move-in arrangements and didn't bring the keys on time. We had to call them multiple times and remind them to to let us in (on Sunday), which happened a few hours after the scheduled time. - At some pint, we had an oven broken for over a month (!!) and they didn't try hard to fix the issue. It took us numerous phone calls (both to Keyrenter and their contractors) to get it replaced. - They're not good with communication and almost never give you a call back or reply via email to answer questions/requests; most of the time they're unavailable or busy with something else. - Their policies are fairly "flexible" and not very tenant-friendly. We moved in to a "no-pet" apt complex only to learn that the "no-pet" policy applies only to our unit. Other neighbors were allowed to have pets (for an extra fee), which might be really unfortunate to some tenants. As a result of the above, people are moving in/out very frequently. We've had 6 different neighbors over the course of three years. read more

They call us for a lot of their larger retrofitting jobs (replacing all the sub-panels in a complex, replacing the huge main service panel to said complex, installing sub-feed wiring for 9 sub-panels, etc), and they're always great to work with. They're also wonderful because they have and will do that one thing that is terribly hard and frightening to do when you work in customer service (which is what both our jobs essentially boil down to on a day-to-day basis): They will tell their clients things they may not want to hear! I've had to tell the team over at Keyrenters the "bad news" about their client's building's electrical system more than once, and they've turned around and asked me how best to put it to their clients! That is something I deeply admire and respect about this company: They know what they're doing, they know when to ask for help, and they trust the experts they reach out to.
