A few years back I had Cal Vintage come out and repair the front roof of my home. I had a window leak where the water was coming in between the brick facia and wall. The original estimate for the repair was around $2500 and was told that they basically had to replace the valleys and rebuild the area in the front. There were 4 gutters in the front of the home that were installed before the facia was put on so instead of them running up too the facia the builders just cut and put the facia around the gutters. This mean't the the gutters went into the wall. I asked if the leak could be coming from the gutters and was told no. Jim is an appraiser who did the original estimate and wen't up on the roof to access what needed to be done. This guy is where the problem began because his assessment was completely wrong and he never listened to me about the gutter. He knew better and was trying to sell me on some poly vinyl underlayment and explained how they would replace the valley's and redo the entire front of the home. I agreed with his "expert" prognosis so they scheduled the work, did the rebuild and the very first rain the windows were leaking like a sieve. I called them back and explained that I believed it was the gutters built into the wall that was the issue. They did a water test on the two lower gutters and confirmed what I told them. So at their expense they remove the two lower gutters, cut them and I had to hire someone to fix the hole that was left when the gutters were replaced. They then came back and re-installed the cut gutters. The next rain most of the problem was gone but there were still some slight leaking. I called them again and said it was still leaking and perhaps it was the gutters on top that had not been fixed was the problem. They said they would do the same thing to the top gutters as they did for the bottom and give me another warranty IF I pay an additional $650. I was stuck and I needed this fixed so I agreed and they came and did the work. I guess since it was still under warranty I could of taken them to court but opted to pay their fee for coming out a third time. This happened over an exchange of 34 emails between Brent Irick and myself back in June 2015. Overall I wasn't displeased with the work, I felt they charged me $2500 for some work that probably didn't need to be done, and they didn't really honor the warranty or fix the original problem until I coughed up another $650, but the guys who did the work were great and Brent was nice enough. So a couple of weeks ago (Jan 2018) the back of my roof is in need of some repair. The valley has some issues and needs to be replaced. I call Cal Vintage to have them do the work (again, I was okay with what they did 2 1/2 years ago so I called them back). I never got a call back. Eleven days later I called again and spoke with Leslie (who is one of the owners) and she informed me that Cal Vintage didn't want to have anything to do with my roof because of what happened in 2015. I don't feel I was a difficult customer and if anyone is really interested in seeing how negotiations wen't between me and Brent I would be very happy to share all 34 emails. You can see EXACTLY how this company responds when they don't fix anything and you've paid $2500. You can also see how they dismiss you as a customer when you are persistent and make them work for their money. In retrospect I should of been the one who dismissed them as a viable roofing repair company. Perhaps Leslie did me a favor and now I won't have to work with this group again and beg them to do the work right. read more

I live in Gold River and was one of the first in my neighborhood to replace wood shingles some 15 years ago or so with stone coated steel. It is supposed to be a lifetime roof so sounded great and happy go lucky. I was surprised when I got water dripping from the ceiling. I had to look around to find the roofer who installed it, they were out of business, called a few roofing companies and told that they only dealt with tile roofs or some lame excuse about not being able to work on stone coated steel. Crazy I thought. Then I remembered seeing Cal-Vintage on Coloma Road as I pass by it every day and decided to call. While I was told that it could take a week to schedule a repair since it was raining and a lot of calls, had someone to my house the next day to take a look. Told me that the flashing that should have been placed was not and the caulking or whatever it was at the various vents were weathered and cracked...while one may be leaking, the others were sure to go soon. Was told that it would take maybe a week to get someone to repair due to the numerous calls, wasn't too worried since the weather was going to be fine, but within a few days, had a call that someone would be out to make the repair - plus the cost was very reasonable. It had rained hard a few times since the repair, not problems. Was told that with the new flashing and repair since it was done correctly, would last about 50 years. I had them come fix a leak. I said I didn't want to do the repair if I needed a new roof. They inspected with a drone. They did their work and the roof still leaked. They sent a guy out to take another look and he said there were leak areas on other parts of the roof which they weren't responsible for. I feel ripped off. $3,300 for a repair that didn't help. Don't hire a company that only inspects with a drone! Another company came and inspected by actually sending a person onto the roof and said there were multiple, obvious issues that Cal-Vintage shouldn't have missed, outside of the area where they did their work. I wouldn't have authorized the work they did if they'd noticed and mentioned that the whole roof had issues. I had asked for an estimate for replacing the whole roof when I asked about the repair, but they never provided that. Very disappointed. $3,300 and the roof still leaks. Poor communication from the office as well, with scheduling and not getting an estimate for replacing the roof. read more

We contracted Cal Vintage for a repair to our steel tile roof last year and had to wait to complete the job till 2014, due to other unexpected expenses. Steel title roofs are not easy to work with; but we found the repair to be completed by someone who knew how to work with this type of roofing material and got the job done right despite the fact that I forgot to unlock the gate for them. I am not going to repeat all of the accolades of many of the other reviewers, but will say I could not be happier with the steel roof installed by Cal-Vintage or dealing with the company. Their bid was mid way between the high and low. The showroom is excellent and provides shoppers the opportunity to actually see the roofing materials and installation methods. The salesman went thru every detail with us. The installation crew was always on time and was very experienced in working with the steel roof. One minor problem I noted, some of the stone coating chipped off where the shakes were nailed, was fixed immediately. Top notch, start to finish. read more

The worst. I hired them to fix a leak in my roof, the estimate came in around $1200 to do a 8x5 patch. When the roofer came out, he was on the roof for 10 mins max, brought the wrong color shingles so he just moved one of my shingles to the spot over the leak and swore 100% it was fixed. It wasn't. He came back and did the same thing, spent another MAYBE 7 mins on my roof. After the second time it was still leaking. They then sent out a different roofer who found some other issue and "fixed it" but it was not fixed. Mind you, none of these roofers had performed the original planned 8x5 patch. after the third try I was over it, the Manager Marcus said he wanted to come out, told me that it was my stucco leaking not my roof and they can't guarantee they can fix something. In the meantime, someone else came out and spent an hour on the roof, identifying the issue and fixing it in one go. I had to FIGHT with them to get my money back, and even still they only gave me a partial refund because of their "labor and materials" (if you'll remember they used my own shingles AND spent a total of about 20 mins on my roof. Anyway, I would never recommend this company and I will never use them again. read more

We discovered a leak in our entryway the other weekend. We had 3 roofing companies come take a look at it, including Cal-Vintage. The first guy proposed to tear out a large portion of the roof to replace the underlay and battens, and for the meantime glued the broken tiles as a short term fix. The second guy didn't even go up on the roof. When Jim from Cal-Vintage went up to check out the area, he took pictures, pulled out a few tiles to check the underlay, and said it looked fine. He explained that the glued tiles were done properly and would resolve the leak. He didn't try to sell us on a repair that was unnecessary when he certainly could have. What an honest guy! We will definitely call Cal-Vintage in the future if our roof needs repairs. We would certainly recommend them to others. read more

I'm purchasing a custom house with an unusual roof that has had leaks in the past that I've been very concerned about. I had 3 roof inspections done (1 included w/ whole house inspection and one free one from another company) on this house and Cal Vintage was leaps and bounds better than the others. Not only was a very thorough report written explaining deficiencies, maintenance and repair recommendations, but there were pictures taken of everything noted and it was presented in a way that made it very easy to understand. These guys are good and believe in good old fashioned customer service. I found them years ago when we had a flat roof over a garage that was leaking. They were the only roofers who would tackle a flat roof and/or a small job. They found a reasonable solution that has held up well over five years. So when it was time to replace our old shake roof, I knew I wanted to use them. Their quote was not the lowest or highest, but it seemed fair for the scope of the work. They rescheduled when there was a 20% change of rain. Their removal crew arrived promptly. Their crew even stayed on the job past dusk to finish. They were excellent about cleaning up. They even cleaned the window sills for our neighbor whose driveway we had to use. They finished the job in three days! Be prepared to paint after the job is done as they apply a black flashing that will not match your house and they do not paint. I had a metal roof that needed some repair and a vent cut for new bathroom fans. I wanted this assurance as a poor job from cutting a metal roof (or any roof) can compromise the integrity of the roofing structure. Actually, not many roofing companies wanted to work with metal roofs. From asking around, Cal Vintage was the most highly regarded for their expertise and great service. I was glad I used them as they did a great job and extended the life of the roof by repairing a few damaged sections. They also provided me pointers on having a house with a metal roof. If you chose Cal-Vintage Roofing, you'll be glad you did. I used them 4 years ago when I realized my roof was leaking. Within an hour of my call, they had someone out tarping my roof. Within a few weeks, they replaced my roof. The customer service was fantastic from beginning to end. I asked if they could deliver the faccia boards a few days ahead of install so I could paint them. No problem. I used them again in Dec 2014 for my new house that needed a new roof like yesterday. Pete Jr didn't waste any time meeting with me and starting the process, even before escrow closed. I discovered a leak spot on elderly dad's ceiling in his dining room after the heavy rain. Joel came out yesterday, he promptly went up on the roof-discovered shingles that were not secured with caulking. He was so honest about what the problem was, I was very impressed with him. And to top it off, he came back today and repaired it for my dad at no charge! My dad is 92-just broke his hip from falling and I (his daughter) don't get up on roofs. Everyone at Cal-Vintage Roofing I talked to was very knowledgeable, professional, and very nice. The project was scheduled quickly and completed on time. I still had a leak (outside porch cover) and they came back out and inspected the original repair (part of the problem was my gutters were clogged and they cleared them) and installed new felt over the area that leaked with no charge. We got a new roof done here in EDH with Cal-Vintage Roofing in October. They did a superior job, we are so happy with the outcome. We could not have asked for anything more. We got a steel roof and it looks great. We realize now, this was definitely a major undertaking, but they made it all look so simple. They showed up on time and did everything that was suppose to be done and more ! They where such hard workers, all the workers were very professional, everybody in the company was very helpful and had a lot of knowledge about roofs. Also with the initial consultation, we totally recommend to go to their showroom on Coloma Rd, in Rancho Cordova. That made all the difference to know what the whole process involved, the good thing to know is also that they have been in business for a long time, so we know if we ever need them again, they will be around. We had our shake roof replaced last winter. Cal-Vintage installed a steel roof, which we love!

Watch out for a real rip-off. Good work but way over-priced. The guy that did the estimate was very knowledgeable and helpful. He told me he thought it would be an all day job for 2300 or so to get at what he suspected was an underlayment problem. Then a written estimate came in the mail for $2546, they explained that it was an even bigger job than they thought. They would have to remove a large section of the roof to replace the underlayment. I signed it and sent it back. When they came out to do the work it ended up taking two guys less than 2 and half hours. They only had to fix the flashing and not rip up the roof and replace underlayment. I got a bill in the mail for $2346 (200 off). I called to complain that this was excessive. They blew me off. If you like paying $500 an hour for roofers use these guys. read more

On Feb.23rd I met with Pete Mazzuca Jr at their showroom in Gold River. I was told it would be 8 to 10 weeks before my roof could be put on. Previously a gentleman had come to my home and with a drone measured my roof. I was quoted a price and sent in my deposit. The original date was set for the third week in May. That was moved to the 12th of June then to the 21st. I informed them back in Feb of my vacation dates and was told it would be done by Saturday as I was leaving on Monday. They promised me this 3 times and because I was concerned they moved it back to the 19th. On the 16th received a call moving it back to the 21st a Wednesday and once again told it would be done on Saturday. Many things were not done as they promised and they don't really work on Saturday, lied to about that. On Thursday afternoon Martin Barajas the field superintendent came to my door and informed me there would be an additional 2 to 4 hours of labor as there was a bit more dry rot than expected. Not only were they not done till Monday but the final bill was $2204 more than I was quoted and not 2 to 4 hours but 26 hours were added. I was shocked and very upset at the large extra amount. Not sure how there were that many extra as crew was only actually here about that amount of hours. I don't feel that they were ever honest wirh me and showed no integrity whatsoever. If you use them be prepared for your bill to be padded. read more
