This is a great bakery with a variety of desserts that I haven't seen in other bakeries in northern Jersey. For my birthday I actually had a rum cake along with smaller tres leches cakes, all were delicious. They also have your tiramisu, your red velvet, your cheesecakes, your fruit tarts. Whats also interesting about this store is that they have this special pepperoni/sausage bread. I haven't tried that yet but I am intrigued. Additionally they do have other refrigerated products. Did I mention that they have many varieties of bread? Delicious! Was craving some sweets today and went to Calandras Bakery. Big mistake , $4 dry chocolate cupcakes where even the frosting is dry. I went during the early afternoon , not late at night! The Napoleon is hard to break up and the custard is gummy. Even their outrageous brownies were lousy today! What happened here???? Big disappointment! i've eaten at the other locations so I knew the food was going to be good, so I am not surprised this time that it was the same thing. started us out with some amazing cheesy garlic bread, only complaint I would say was that it took out server a good 10 minutes to get to us, so we were totally patched from the delicious bread, but not a serious qualm she had a huge party to attend to. I've been craving cannolis ever since we got to New Jersey and as we were on our way to Costco, I spotted this bakery! So, on our way back this is where we made a stop. First of all, it's a pretty big place. I thought it would be smaller. They are taking strict precautions as far as COVID. Their employees are wearing gloves/masks and masks are required for entry. The lines are marked off so that customers don't stand too close to one another. There is no seating inside but some seating is available outside. They are doing a great job! They have these cool revolving things with cakes (see the picture if this makes no sense LOL). They have a HUGE variety of pastries in addition to coffee/tea/drinks and frozen goods (including HOMEMADE GELATO). I will say that they are a bit on the pricier end (e.g. the smallest tub of gelato is $9.25 and 1 macaron is $2.35). We ordered 2 small cannolis, 1 big chocolate covered cannoli, 2 macarons (pistachio & passionfruit) and a lemon tart. I will say that the macarons are on the bigger side so it's worth the price. All of the pastries were delicious! We greatly enjoyed them. OVERALL: The staff were pleasant, nice and professional. The place was very clean and customer/employee safety was of top concern. In the same parking lot of the Best western plus I am staying at, so I stoped by to grab a cookie and wow it was awesome inside. Every pastry you can think of and Italian food prepared to take and go. Plenty of staff greeting you ready to grab as many goodies as you probably shouldn't eat haha. If you live in New Jersey and you need a custom cake or just a great bakery look no further. I was graduating from college and I needed a cake for my intimate graduation party. I couldn't find a good bakery for a long time but thank god for Instagram because I happened to been browsing through and came across a graduation cake they had made and I was immediately sold. I called the next day and place an order for pickup.. pickup was very easy and I like that they set up different lines so that everyone isn't crowed given the current pandemic. It was very easy to place an order and pick it up. I love how the cake came out however they missed spelled my name but it tasted even better than it looked. Since then I've been here about 3 times and recently placed another cake order for my husband's surprise birthday dinner. As long as I live here I will only come to this bakery for my bread,cakes, and pies. read more

I loved Calandra's cakes and pastries but this time they disappointed us big time. We ordered the cake 6 days before the actual birthday. When we went to pick up the cake surprisingly it was not ready which was strange. After finally bringing the cake and cutting it we realized that it was anything but a tres leches cake. It was a disaster, it was dry, not soaked enough, tasteless and cake felt very hard and old. Icing was runny and weird.... Very disappointing. I used Calandra's in Fairfield for my wedding cake when getting married at The Madison Hotel in December, 2023. After choosing our cake and flavor, we knew we wanted to make our cake unique and festive. So I asked the manager, Ilah, if she could accommodate our request. I text her a picture of my vision and she happily worked with her baker to make it happen. They created one of a kind holiday/winter themed chocolates that were the perfect size and made with care and precision! The Gingerbread Man and Woman cake topper were our favorite!! All of our guests lined up for pictures and we received compliments the entire night. We got the cookies and cream flavored cake and it was delicious! A light cake with delicious ricotta and mascarpone cheese cannoli filling was the hit of my impromptu holiday gathering with my friends. I'm updating my review. I recently went back to give this bakery another try. I needed to order a birthday cake and went in on a weekday. Even though it was busy, there was plenty of staff willing to help me. The young lady at the counter who helped was very friendly and was able to answer all of my questions. The ordering process was quick and easy. When I came back to pick up the cake, again it was busy but the staff person was efficient and I was able to get my cake quickly. She made sure the decorations were to my liking before she boxed it up. When we sliced the cake, it was fresh and moist. The cream cheese filling was tasty and not overly sweet. The icing on top was rich and creamy. Overall, it was a totally different experience I had from a few years earlier. I would definitely recommend this bakery and will be coming back. read more

Calandra's is pretty much a staple around here! Where else can you get hot, fresh Italian and French breads, cakes, pastries, and cookies all in one stop? I was craving their bread a few weeks ago and decided to grab my mask and see how they were doing. They were very well organized. We had to wait in a distanced like outside but it was fast moving. Once inside, we were given a square to stand inside. We had one attendant who grabbed us whatever we needed. The breads were still incredibly fresh. We also got a tiramisu cake that was super indulgent, and some frozen sfogliatelle. We felt super safe and were able to get everything we wanted. One of my favorite bakeries for sweet desserts and pastries in North Jersey. Whenever we get dinner in the Fairfield area we always opt to stop here for dessert. Admittedly we sometimes can't wait till we get home and have devoured our desserts in the parking lot they are so good. Just left the store to pick up a cake for my baby shower. The name on the cake is as supposed to be Jackson Lynn and when I arrived there was a comma between the names. The lady helping me was incredibly rude and said this happened because I ordered by phone. No apology or anything, or shred of empathy.Take a look at the pic to see how they "fixed it". Very sad to even have to write this review but after today's visit I felt I needed too. Super long time shopper, I mean years and years. I went today to get bread and rolls total was $11 something. I gave the women $15 and when she return she only gave me coins and my receipt. When I said excuse me you gave me the wrong change, her tone changed and treated me as I was in the wrong and trying to rip them off. The disrespect of this woman (whom I assume is the manager (blonde hair) )over $3 is incredible. To loss a customer over $3 because of a worker is unacceptable. Just because your the only local bakery doesn't mean people can't go elsewhere. read more

Quality has slipped. Chocolate tarts lack chocolate. The butter cream on their custom cakes is exactly what many people hate about buttercream - gritty and overly sweet. Cake chef (at least the one guy I talked to) was unhelpful advising me when I tried to place a custom order. Regardless, they do have some pre-made items that are tasty. So, it's a mixed bag. I wish there was an option to give 0 stars or negative star. I got an apple pie from them and found mold. Called the bakery to notify them and all they said was ' Oh it's not possible to have mold in apple pie. If you want you can come back for a refund'. I'm shocked that I didn't get any apology or anything. I was not worried about getting a refund. Im more worried about the fact that my whole family and I ate half of a moldy pie.
