As always, they were pretty full and there was a a really long wait to be seated. We weren't surprised because we eat here about once a week. My family opted to order food to go and eat at home. As we waited inside after ordering our meal, we noticed their porch area was open yet no one seated there. So I asked a few of the workers to speak to a manager to see if we could wait there for our to go order and one of them said, "No problem, go wait there now and I'll bring your food when it's ready." As we were waiting on the porch, a woman came to the porch and without introducing herself, motioned us to leave and then said, "We aren't seating anyone on the porch." I was startled and surprised because the previous worker spoke with such confidence that it was ok for us to wait there. "Excuse me?," I said, "I'm sorry, I'm not sure I..." She interrupted, "You need to leave the porch, we are not sitting anyone here," as she continued to motion for us to leave immediately with a look of annoyance mixed with contempt. "But we're not wanting to sit here; can we just wait here till our food is ready?" With a cold and indifferent stare, she muttered, "No." Then she tilted her head towards the door with an irritated sigh and motioned for us to hurry up and leave the porch. So I signaled my teenaged kids to come back inside. I then went straight to the ordering counter and promptly asked to have our order cancelled and to issue a full refund. Ironically enough, the same woman who rushed us off the porch had to enter the manager code to issue the refund. Knowing she was guilty, she asked no questions, she didn't look into what was wrong, nor did she ask how to she could fix the situation. I then had to break the awkward silence by mentioning that my family loves coming hear and love sending people here but the way she just treated us here was completely unprofessional and uncalled for. And as articulate and well dressed of a man as I am, my dark brown skin and my kids' light brown skin gave her the subtle subconscious permission to shoo us away from the porch like "the help" and not even think twice. I just can't help but to think that if we had way less melanin in our skin that she would've been a tad nicer and dare I say even more accommodating. I most likely won't be coming here again and definitely won't be recommending our extended networks of people who come to visit KC to come here anymore. read more

First time I came here my eggs were over cooked. I mentioned it and the waiter began to argue but caught himself and brought me the correctly made eggs. I was grateful and left a good tip. Second time around I bring 7 people. All our eggs were over cooked for "over easy" and were cooked as "hard". No yoke. Because it was super busy no one said anything. It already took long enough to get the food. The food price also is high for what you get, you are better off going to TJs Diner, which I've been for for years. Very Happy, nice wide open interior... not too loud... base price food was pretty reasonable (4.99-5.99) with add ons that brought it up to normal levels. Coffee Was Good and we three brothers were all happy with our choices. The left over pancakes had to be taken with us and Sourdough bread that tasted like sourdough bread( not white) . The steak omelette was delicious however the breakfast potatoes could have been cooked a little longer and used some seasoning. My toddler enjoyed his waffle and the whipped cream and sprinkles that came on it. Service was friendly too. Problem came with our check. It wasn't until after we got home that I realized that they're charged me full price for the regular waffle and full price for the kids chocolate milk when they should have only charged $4.99 for the kids waffle and the chocolate milk should have been included in that price. We were also charged for avocado, which we neither ordered nor received. I'll chalk it up to them being new and me not reviewing the bill before checking out. Over the past year I've shifted to ordering a lot of carry out and curbside pickup, and during that time Caleb's has become a favorite because of the consistent quality and consistent speed at which orders are ready. The menu has a wide range of options so I never have a hard time finding something for everyone in my picky family. My kids have become a big fan of the breakfast quesadillas, which are so large they can usually share one. I'm looking forward to getting back to indoor dining soon so we can continue to support this great local business. read more

My family and I used to love coming here and literally ate here at least once a week. We were traveling for the summer and recently returned to KC. One of our first stops was to our previous favorite, Calebs. Unfortunately we has THE WORST customer service experience we have ever had, to the point that we left before our food came out. In short: we had ordered a to go order on a busy Sunday morning, we are a large family so instead of clogging up the small waiting area, my husband asked the server at the counter if we could wait outside on their dining patio. The server confidently said yes. My husband and children went outside and were waiting for our food to be ready when another lady stormed outside stating that they were not sitting people on the patio. When my husband tried to explain what the other server had said he was repeatedly and very rudely cut off as if he were a small child or a kid caught cutting class and being told to "get back to class", not a local business owner, father of five who literally spends hundreds of dollars at this establishment monthly. We ended up going inside and cancelling our large family of seven's order. What made matters even worse was the person who treated us so poorly seemed to be the manager. She had to authorize our refund and never attempted to make any effort to keep our business. We won't be returning, there are plenty of other places in Kansas City that have good food and also treat their customers with courtesy and respect. read more

My fiancé got the chicken fried chicken and gave me a few bites and it definitely was just as good if you're a heartier dish. The hash browns were actually not overly fried which I appreciate and had a great overall flavor. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Went on a Sunday morning with the Church crowd, waited about 10 minutes. First thing I noticed was that the place was LOUD (the bawling toddler didn't help). The walls are scantly covered and the big plate glass windows at the front don't help. Server came quickly and brought a carafe of coffee to the table (saves waving an empty cup at a passing server). I had the 'Down on the Bayou' omelette with rye toast (only a single slice; OK by me) and hash browns, SO had waffle with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon. Meals came quickly and were hot and tasty, but the plates were completely unadorned, no orange slice, no sprig of parsley, nothing. I never before thought that was a big thing, but the food looked ... stark. I suspect the crowds were there because it's the new place in town, and in a few months things will even out.
