This place ain't no good. The owner, the wife and the son all put off bad vibes. The person who i got a chance to talk with the first visit, turns out to be the shops mechanic. The worst part was meeting the family of Tony the owner. A mean looking tea kettle and a pear dont equal a string bean looking like uncle bad touch in the shop. Tony is a thief. I bought a 2007 Toyota Solara and he would not let me take it to my mechanic. The steering became very bad. I took it to my mechanic and he said I needed a new power steering pump it was leaking all over the boot and had filled the boot up with the fluid. My mechanic looked over the car and found that I had a dry rotted tire on the passenger side that didn't even match the others. The transmission coolant lines were leaking so I needed a new radiator and lines. The exhaust had a leak. The valve covers were leaking and needed new gaskets The alignment was off eventhough Tony claimed he had it aligned. This was the first car I ever bought. My late husband always did it. I fell for Tony's story stating that his garage inspected it and the car was fine. Also, he wouldn't take my debit card or check. I had to go to my bank and get a cashiers check. Tony is a crook & only cares about his money. back in April I was in an accident which caused my car to be a total loss. all the interest rates were insane around this time (still are) so I was trying to find a cheaper car that was still decent. I decided to try Calef Auto for the first time and I've bought 3 other cars before from other dealers w absolutely NO issues. I went against my better judgement as I really needed to purchase a car due to now being June and still not having one. Anyways, I found a 2017 Ford Edge on his lot, it was overpriced but still cheaper than others so figured this was my best option. I had my grandmother with me and we decided to take it for a test drive. During the test drive, we noticed a very loud rattle that was coming from the front passenger side ). Not only a rattle but the breaks were metal to metal and you could hear them grinding against each other & when you pressed on them the car would shake and the brakes felt like we were driving on a rumble strip with how bad it was. I also noticed a few burn holes and other cosmetic issues. When we got back from the test drive, I explained everything, he tried to tell me I was wrong & insisted I had no idea what I was talking about. I tried to ask him to join me for a test drive to show him why I was talking about but he refused. I told him I would not buy the car unless these things were addressed. He told me to come back that following weekend and everything would be addressed. When I went back, he told me he had replaced the front breaks and they were brand new, did an oil change, popped out the dents, and fixed the rattle but I would need to bring the car back if I chose to buy to fix the burn holes. I test drove the car again, the breaks seemed a little better so I figured oh they were just fixed I'll give it some time, the rattle was still there but not as loud, a couple of the dents were popped out but the others he said he could not do. where I was a little nervous about if he actually had the work done I asked id before doing the paperwork if my finances grandfather could come take a look at the car where he is a master mechanic and he told me if I wanted someone to come look at the car then this sale was not worth it to him as he claimed he just fixed everything. My grandmother & I decided to just go ahead with the paperwork trusting he fixed all the issues and I could bring it to my finances grandfather after before the 30 days and warranty were up. after all that we set up a day for me to come back for the burn holes to be fixed (Only a few days later). The next day, I noticed the brakes were starting to grind again and thump/shake like driving on a rumble strip again and the rattle was way worse. I tried calling to get ahold of Tony, I was only able to speak with the woman (forget her name) who said she would leave a message for him as he was there but was busy and would have him call me back shortly. A few hours went by and I just figured he was busy & would call when he can. A few more hours go by and they're about to close, I call back again and got the woman again, she had told me he left for the day a little while ago and would call me back in the morning. Next morning I never received a call so I called back around 1 and could not get through to anyone and left a voicemail, tried again a few hours later, same thing. At this point I figured I would wait until I went there for the burn holes.Fast forward to appointmentday & when I get there Tony said they couldn't do it today because the guy that does it never showed up. Now my appointment was at 230pm & if he never showed up he had plenty of time to call & let me know as I live 45 minutes away but he didn't. I did not find out until I got there. So we reset another appointment & I told him about the brakes & rattle. He ensured me that the brakes were brand new and it was not possible and that I was hearing things. Same with the rattle as they "ripped my heat shield off" & said that was the reason for the rattle. I immediately went to my fiancés grandfathers house for him to take a look at everything where he lives about 10/15 mins away. He confirmed that the brakes were not new at all, they were only greased bexcuse at first tony tried to say it was from sitting & would be fine after they were used for a bit. As for the rattle, alls you had to do was barely tap on my passenger side door panel and the whole thing started to shake and rattle. We went right back to Calefs and showed him and told him the brakes needed to be fixed now as well. So he finally did. Except the rattle was still there a little bit but we couldn't figure out what else was causing it.still have rattle& was in the shop the past couple days for a sticker & some work. Come to find out my car had been in a pretty bad accident and the rattle is due to a bunch of aftermarket broken parts Due to the accident. We purchased a truck from Tony in 2020. We specifically asked about the under carriage of the truck. Tony , the salesperson, and finance person said that there was nothing wrong with the undercarriage. They would not sell a truck that would not pass inspection. Last year we went to Tony for the inspection. . They passed it again.This Year we went to a different inspection station. Lo and behold the frame had been repaired multiple times and now will not pass inspection. To fix it would cost over $3000. with no guarantee that it will pass inspection. The warranty covered some but not as much as it should have, and the owner (Tony) couldn't care less. This car should not have passed an inspection. Poor business ethics. Purchased truck and two weeks later check engine light comes on and catalytic converter is bad. Mechanic showed us piece removed and clearly it was rusted and about to snap. Owner didn't contact us as requested, salesman was basically like not my problem but here's the owners card. Lot of good that does when he doesn't respond. It's shameful to sell a truck to a family that needs repairs after two weeks of having it, we barely drove it! I bought a Subaru Outback from them nearly two years ago and was concerned about the well-known Subaru head gasket issue for that make-model-year range car as the car had about 80k miles and they had no repair history for it (how professional, that should have been my first clue). I wanted them to lower the price but instead, they insisted to add an aftermarket warranty from C.A.R.S Protection Plus at no cost. Head gasket was supposedly covered as well as a good amount of parts and issues. Well, what was supposed to happen happened, head gasket started leaking so I took the car to Somersworth Subaru dealership and they refused to deal with C.A.R.S. They clearly stated they were crooks and an absolute pain to deal with, so they couldn't be bothered. It took us a few weeks to find the one and only mechanic that was willing to deal with C.A.R.S and long story short, they gave him a hard time for more than a week and to this day they are still not willing to pay for the repair. I contacted C.A.R.S and they are a complete scam, they want the mechanic to completely dismantle the engine at my own cost so he can take pictures even though it is a known Subaru issue and the mechanic already sent them picture proofs of the external leak without the need to dismantle the engine entirely. The car also has a rack and pinion problem and C.A.R.S are refusing to pay for it even though it is covered under the plan. I have now made a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The mechanic lost so much time and was so insulted by C.A.R.S representatives he called Calef to tell them they were selling a scam. I contacted Calef via email and their Facebook page and asked for a phone call to discuss this, leaving all my details. It has now been a month, I am still waiting for Calef to call me, which clearly shows they cannot be bothered. They knowingly sell cars in a poor state, sell a complete scam of a bumper-to-bumper warranty, have no customer service and no guts to call you when you notify them with a problem. We currently need to buy another car and we will definitely go to a competitor! I'm starting to think they are as crooked as the aftermarket warranty they sell! read more
