The service is Absolutely horrible! We waited for our waiter to close out another table before she even took our drink orders. She could have at least brought out some water!!! I ordered chicken and waffles for my food and the waffles were so damn hard the syrup wouldn't even make them soft! We ordered nine shots for our table first off their shot prices are freaking ridiculous! $18 for a shot of Don Julio. Well we decided to cancel the shots and get a bottle because the shots were $200 we thought it was smarter to go the bottle route! Waiter had already swiped the card so she said she would process the refund. We decided we didn't want the bottle after we saw a possum roaming around and we were ready to go. As we were walking out the waiter comes and tells us they can't process the refund for the shots after in which we had already signed the ticket for a refund. They made us stand at the door and consume ALL NINE shots after half of our party had left. Also don't order a drink with multiple liquor that's not on the menu. We had Hennessy and grand mariner with lemonade and they charged the price of a shot for each which was rather confusing because they served it to us in the cups the served the shots in. It was the worst I've ever experienced for a black owned restaurant. On 3/9/2023 @Cali kitchen, we got there at 7:40pm we ordered drinks and hookah then food around 8pm my 1st time there with family and friends, the waitress came back at 8:30pm and told us our food would be out in 35 minutes the kitchen was backed up, so ok. So 9pm came around the waitress told us the kitchen was backed up the tickets got mixed up, they had large parties it was going be another 30 minutes. Ok so we asked for the manager, side note she walked by us multiple times, she told the waitress to tell us she was in a meeting which she never was! Then she said that she was not comp-ing any food if it came out cold or 2 hrs late she didn't care, she would give us a discount for next time we came in...per Manager/owner! 10 o'clock came still no food, at that point we decided to leave, Manager walked right passed us again still nothing to say 2 us. This was my 1st time there and I brought my family from New York that was in town, it was just sooo embarrassing for me because I'm from Houston and I love 2 support black owned businesses and we waited for 2 hrs for food that we never got, so this was disappointing, and on top of that the manager refused to speak with us as customers. A small group of us had dinner here recently. We thought it was just a restaurant, but it's actually a sports bar that serves food and hookah too. I'm not sure what the dress code is supposed to be, but we saw more butt cheeks here than I have at the beach and I'm referring to the employees, not the patrons. I had the chicken strips and fries. They were very good. Also got the red velvet cake. It was just ok. Nothing special at all. In the middle of dining, their DJ started playing music. It was very loud to the point we couldn't hear each other speak. Plus, the lyrics were about nothing but ho's, p*ssy, and d#ck...over and over again. I'm not the type to "clutch my pearls" at the drop of profanity, but come on, really? Our server was lovely and we were assisted promptly when we entered the bar. This is in reference to my horrible experience at this establishment on Saturday 04.22.23. Firstly we had a reservation for 10pm. As we entered the establishment and checked in on time. The hostess proceeded to tell us that it is a two hour wait for a table even though we had reservations. We decided to stay to watch the fight because it was starting but waited for our table standing up near the bar. It took nearly an hour to get a drink at the bar. When the fight was over, we went back to the hostess stand to ask for the table. It seemed as if they forgot. We got to the table we were told that they are no longer serving food. Really this establishment doesn't close until 2am. We never had a waitress come to our table to serve us. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks even though we were sitting at a table. First time here. We were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. Food was okay, but be prepared to pay extra fees for everything you order, including drinks. Nothing we order was the price on the menu (an extra .56, .84, .16, .88, .04, etc. added to every item and there is a tax for alcoholic beverages (I've never paid an additional tax for alcohol in a restaurant before) for 1 cocktail and 1 beer (1.61). $1.00 extra for the Parmesan wing sauce, when it was advertised as a flavor for the price. The hostess said she believe it's the taxes. But as you can see the taxes are added on the end. The other workers said lots of customers complain about it, but nothing is done to address the issue. The manager was called and the only response they was provided by the manager or owner was prices are subject to change. So ridiculous and makes it so hard to try and support these businesses. Possum roaming on the patio. Went early evening on 4/5/24... food was great, server (Joe) was great and attentive. However, the incident which occurred while we were eating on the patio (at the bar) highlights this establishment is not considerate of inconveniences to customer. Half way through the meal, I noticed a large possum by my feet. After finally getting someone to address the situation, we moved inside bc we started feeling uneasy about continuing to eat at the patio bar. After our meal we politely requested for a comp of anything just for the inconvenience. We literally came to sit to eat and watch the game on the patio which we were not able to safely and comfortably do. Our request was denied with the statement "it's the patio, it happens". So just sharing if anyone decides to go and sit on patio beware of potentially eating with possums. Wish we would have recorded it on our phone and shared online. To be from Cali and to come to here was a huge disappointment. The only plus is the decor. Waited 25 min for someone to offer water and menus and waited another 30 min or more for my food to come. Not to mentioned, I had to go back to the hostess to ask where is our waitress. The drinks are weak as HELL and is in a plastic cup. Although, this is a Cali owned restaurant it should have some Houston flare added to it to relate to the existing natives. Overall this place definitely has some growing to do, to raise to the level of other Houston (black-owned) restaurants that I visited where my experience was superb and keeps me coming back. I've tried this place three times, first time the server kept telling me to wait to take my order and never took it (2 hours), second time was able to order drinks (first glass was dirty, lip prints and food in it) but no food as the kitchen was closed for five hours because of an event that happened at noon, the third time my reservation was canceled (kitchen was closed down for the day). Customer service focus just isn't there, I can't event tell that there is leadership presence in this place as everyone seems to just be hanging out while smoking hookah and drinking drinks on the clock. A good atmosphere food is good and well seasoned. they also have a Sunday brunch menu. In addition to live R&B hip-hop performances from artists that are still relevant. This is a new location so you can tell that they're still figuring out the structure but I love the fact that the owners are hands-on and help their staff out and are checking on the guest. This was the 3rd time me and my mom tried this place due to the fact the first 2 times they either had a long wait or they closed their DoorDash account after i had placed a order with them. i don't know where to begin!! Horrible place!!! My husband took me to this hole in the wall last night for our 17th anniversary. We ordered the Town Biz which supposedly consists of Hennessy, Lemonade, PineappLe, and Triple sec. When we got the drinks it tasted like a cup of orange juice so my husband told the waitress that he didn't taste any Hennessy, so he ordered a shot of Hennessy. The waitress brought a shot out but it was D'Usse because they were out of Hennessy. I was like is that what's in the drink from the beginning she said yes!!! So they gave us what the Hell they wanted to and didn't even tell me that they substituted the Hennessy with D'Usse! Now here's comes the kicker !! The waitress brought us our ticket and why was the drink price difference then the menu. If the menu say that the drink is $14.00 why the Hell did the ticket say$14.56 and the shot was $15.60 then $6.80 taxes!!! The owner said it was taxes and it say in fine print that the prices varies but no one could show me where. They she goes to say that she wasn't going to go back and forward with me about 50 cents!! Very unprofessional and I don't see this place being open much longer, especially when they trying to nickel and dime people!!!
