Quotes just don't know how long I've been waiting for the opportunity to stop in and check them out. Better late than never, but dang- I wish I had come sooner! It was my birthday but I had a funeral to attend that afternoon. On this particular day, it also was raining, HORRIBLY, so I was really doubting that I would get a chance to do something later, but I decided to see how far Quotes was from the service. Depending on what time we got out, if there wasn't a repase, AND the weather giving me some grace, I would stop by for an early birthday dinner. Thankfully, Mother Nature gave me a break and let me and my Mom enjoy a nice late lunch at Quotes, which not only had delicious food but exceptional customer service. Soon as we came to the front door, it was opened for us to step inside. We were greeted and shown where we could keep our umbrellas if we felt comfortable leaving at the front door. The hostess lead us to a table and asked if the location was okay. Once more, when our servers, Diamond and Ty, came to our table for our drink orders, I was asked if we were celebrating anything. I mentioned my birthday and was later on surprised by a slice of cheesecake. I didn't have the space to even eat it because I was fat full from the food and drinks I had before dessert arrived! First off, we came at a great time because we were able to try their entrees at a discounted price. Even the drinks are discounted during the lunch hour except their signature and customer fav, the lemon drop, with good reason! The flair that it is presented to you is phenomonal, but the taste is exquisite. It was so smooth I had to slow down from drinking it. I'm usually not too big into drinking more than one drink, but it was my birthday and the drink was GOOD, so another round had to be had! I even tasted my Mom's drink to see if there was something else I should try. I ended up sticking with my Lemon drop and the second one did not disappoint. As far as the food, I did ask for suggestions on a few entrees. I ended up getting the fried catfish and grits while Mom ordered the shrimp tacos with a side of asparagus. Although Mom raved about her tacos and even stated she wish she could make them at home, the asparagus was salty to us. We did send it back and in response, Chef Trini came out personally to ensure the second make was to our liking, indicating that the blackened seasoning would be available on the side. Please tell Chef Trini that this was the best asparagus I EVER tasted. It was cooked to perfection and no seasoning what so ever needs to camofluage the fineese that Chef cooked it with. My entree was also delectable and delicious with the marriage of fried catfish and grits smoothered with creole crawfish sauce (say that three times)! I love my catfish fried hard and not salted to death. Quotes presented both and it intermingled with the grits graciously. I couldn't eat the entire entree because 1. It was a big portion and 2. We had enjoyed an appetizer, the spinach dip and cauliflower garlic bread. It is a MUST to have! We are spinach dip fans and Quotes not only has one of the best Spinach Dips I tasted in a long time, but the creativity of making cauiflower garlic bread is chef's kiss. You would not even think you were eating cauliflower. It minds me more of pita bread versus tradional thick garlic bread but the flavor is there and compliments nicely with the spinach dip. Good vibe, good ambiance, good food! Anytime I've ever gone in here it has always been a good time. They serve a nice Southern comfort menu with modern spins. The name Quotes is on display by the way they have video displays all throughout of quotes by people in the culture. One thing I can definitely say I've never gone here and had bad service. That seems small but it isn't. My most recent visit I went as part of a galentine's party (palentines for me lol) and our main waitress was amazing. She was attentive enough to notice that I was particular about certain things and recommended against one of the items I planned to get. She didn't think it was bad but just that it would not be to my preference. I appreciate that level of honesty and consideration. When you talk Southern comfort you almost can't do that without talking about fried foods and they do that pretty well here. The one asterisk I will say is that one time I went here and the wings were not up to standard flavor wise but every other time they have been on it. I went with the the quotes fish and shrimp platter on my most recent visit, which comes with two sides and a honey butter cornbread waffle. I got the smoked gouda mac & cheese and candied yams for my sides. Everything was really good. The only thing is I feel like the fish could have been seasoned a little bit stronger but great meal overall. Be bayou City pasta was what I initially planned to get but it's the item that she recommended against based on my tastes. I did try some of a friend's pasta with the oxtail option and it was pretty good but I'm not mad that I missed on it. I'm typically a gin drinker but they didn't have a chin cocktail I wanted so I went with the strawberry lone Star lemonade. It was a bit sweet but I also prefer my cocktails on the sweeter side so it was cool. Good drink overall. I had the French Rosé in the past which is a spin on the French 75 with a rose champagne and it was solid. I tried some of my friends dishes as well. I want to say the spinach dip is damn good to me! Like "oh damn I wasn't expecting this" good. And I like the cauliflower garlic bread it's served with. It's really soft so not a dipper but very delicious! The crispy sweet and spicy shrimp are also good but I will say a little bit on the sweeter side. The crispy cauliflower bites are very, very good. Of course prefer chicken wings but as an alternative they slap. The wings and waffles was one of the first things I tried here and I really enjoyed both the wings and the waffles so win-win for me. I'm usually good with just plain waffles but I really liked how they paired with the peach cobbler for waffle options. The waffles are a few small waffles instead of one large waffle but they're still really good and it's kind of a cute look, just not as filling lol. As I said before the wings do exactly what they need to do being crispy and delicious, and only once did they let me down. I've always had the wings served as whole wings but the recent visit a friend was serve separate flats and drums so I'm not sure if they changed to doing pieces on the wings. I have a friend who swears by the lamb chops and I believe I had a taste of them but it was a while back so I don't remember well enough to give my thoughts on them but she loves them. This was my first time visiting this establishment, and unfortunately, it will also be my last. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes can happen, but how they are handled makes all the difference. My friends and I decided to visit after hearing so many great things about this place. We spent a total of three hours there, and approximately two and a half of those hours were spent waiting for our food and drinks. We later discovered that our waitress had never entered our order into the system. Throughout the evening, our waitress repeatedly complained about the employees and the establishment's system rather than focusing on resolving the issue. No remedy was offered proactively; we had to request compensation ourselves. Even then, the only accommodation provided was 30% off our entrées, while our drinks remained full price. In my opinion, good customer service would have meant taking full responsibility for such a significant service failure by comping the meal and drinks. Instead, after waiting so long, we simply paid our bill and took our food to go.
