OMG. This restaurant is a work of art, from its menu to its lovey internal decor (including an ACTUAL FOUNTAIN). I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here! Decor: The restaurant has a loud and tranquil personality, you have to see it to believe it. I came here around Halloween and felt that the decor definitely matched the occasion. Plus, the peaceful water fountain and playful signs, and walls full of decorations made me feel as if I was walking through a plaza in Mexico late at night. As a world traveler, that is a major compliment from me. Food: The food here was so delicious!!! The empanadas were very tasty, the yuca was crispy and flavorful especially paired with their pink sauce, my burrito was delicious and filling, and the quesadilla was quite good! I even tried one of their banana shakes and it was surprisingly really good for such a low price! Service: The service was great! A friend suggested this place, funny story I had no idea there were two locations in Athens and we both went to different locations! Lucky for us they aren't very far from each other, and both places have amazing decor and vibes. We had food from the Lumpkin location, it's smaller but still awesome! We came here on a Saturday afternoon after peak lunch time around 2pm and the line was long. It was outside the back door and took about 30 minutes to get through. It was our first time and the sign outside said it was cash only and that there was an ATM inside. Yelp also says they do not take credit cards, but alas they do! I did not find this out until I had already pulled cash out the onsite ATM. From there, we got our drinks, chips, and found a table and placed our number on it. The chips and salsa were average, nothing special. It took about 15 minutes for the rest of our food to arrive. It came out piece meal. I had the fish burrito without tabasco and it was amazing! There was a ton of fish and the combination of flavors were bursting with zing. It was a filling, but light meal. This past weekend was the line was twice as long but the crew and I were determined! O M G so much flavor, character and fun! We had a group of 8 so ya'll know I got to taste everyone's food! Sadly no alot of pics bc we were so distracted by the vibe, the deco, and the food! The staff is busy but extremely friendly. Special shout out to Mr Bruno he went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of! I recommend sending a buddy in to find a table while you wait in line. Cali N Tito's will forever be near and dear to my heart. I always loved visiting the Lumpkin location when I went to UGA and I'm happy to see that nothing has changed over the last few years upon a return visit to Athens. They have great lunch specials where you can get a sandwich or tacos or other delicious food, a side, and a drink for less than $10. My favorite is the chicken cuban which comes with jalapeños and some veggies and I ordered a side of fries. The sandwich was very filling and if I had space to take the leftovers, I definitely would have. The fries were also very crunchy and cooked so well, just like I remembered. Cali N Tito's is by far my favorite place to eat in Athens. There are two locations with this one being the original. Keep in mind that they only take cash at this location (there's an ATM at the gas station right next to it), it gets incredibly busy with long lines for lunch and dinner times, and the parking is terrible. But, if you're willing to endure all that, the food is definitely worth it! Cali N Tito's is an authentic Cuban restaurant with a variety of options. My personal favorite is their cuban sandwich which you can get with chicken, steak, or chorizo. I personally love the chicken. The bread is always toasted enough that it has the perfect crunch, there's jalapenos which makes it spicy, and their sauce that they use is amazing. You also can't go wrong with the fish tacos. Unfortunately, over time, prices have increased here. It is now $3.25 for just one taco, but it is well worth it! If you think the taco is too pricey for one, a good alternative is the fish burrito. It's basically the same thing as their fish taco, but instead, wrapped in a burrito with plantains added. The burrito is also one of my personal favorites, and it's huge! For sides, the fries here are probably one of the best fries I've ever eaten. I honestly don't know how to describe them, you just need to try it for yourself. Ask for extra sauce to dip the fries in. It's amazing. And to end my meal, I generally like to order the churros which comes with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate syrup drizzled on it. My daughters attended undergrad at UGA and Cali N Tito's easily became a favorite. The youngest daughter was home for spring break from medical school and had a craving for, you guessed it! We went here for lunch, parking was a mess seemed complicated. Food was bland, no flavor for Mexican. Outside seating was nice but it would be either hot or cold dependent on outdoor conditions. Bench seating too, decor was very tropical. Music was appropriate and at decent level. Service was limited, due to they just deliver your food, then you don't see them again. This place is straight up banging. Food is fresh and just pure heaven. So many different layers of flavor on each bite. CASH ONLY though. Beef empanada was absolutely lovely. At $2.45 a piece, it's an adequate size and full of flavor and texture. The sauce they serve it with has a kick and also very tasty. Steak Lomos saltado salvaje is also super tasty at $15 for a plate. Came with rice and fried plantains with fries steak and 2 perfectly fried eggs on top. It's a pretty big place so either share or wear bigger pants. I imagine this wouldn't be a good left over food since the fries will get soggy so you gotta eat this in one sitting. Same goes for the big burrito al pastor. It's a gigantic mound of delicious food at about 9 bucks. Al pastor has pineapple chunks in them with the beans, so if you're not an adventurous eater, you may find this surprising. But it's still delicious. Now, there's more seating outside than inside, so if you opt to eat outside, keep an eye on ants. I had sandals on and my toes and feet got bit by ants. Not very pleasant. We ended up going inside on the account of that and some pesky flies lurking about. Also, this seems to be a college hang out so it seems to get rowdy after a certain time in the weekend (they allow byob at a $2 fee/charge). They also only have one toilet for each gender located in the back, so keep that in mind as well. All in all, solid food in this area. Super glad we tried it. read more

Went here for lunch, super cool place inside. They have two locations in Athens. You do have to stand in a seemingly long line, but it moves pretty quickly. Once you place your order you get a number card and they bring out your food. It was a pretty long wait as it took 20 minutes for my food to be delivered to my table. With the 10 minutes I stood in line to place my order I was already 30 minutes into this lunch and now just about to eat, just a tip if you're short on time. They have a large assortment of sandwiches, but I just was not feeling a sandwich today so I went with the Arroz Chafu. This essentially was chicken fried rice. It was just OK as it was too greasy. I also have a side of fried plaintains and they were good. For dessert they have 30 different popsicle creations to choose from as well as ice cream. Popsicles looked great and we're inventive, but I didn't have room for dessert on this visit. Upon leaving I noticed a Health code score rating of 82. Every time, I get vindicated, and it makes me sad because that mean I have to come to Athens to get this fish taco. I recently went to Hawaii and visited this fish taco place where a fellow Yelper reviewed it as having the best fish taco in the whole world because he traveled around the globe and had fair number of fish tacos. My wife and I had a mixed feeling trying that place because if they have a better fish taco that means that we have to come to Hawaii to get fish taco.
