I honestly don't understand the super high ratings because my experience was very mediocre. It's definitely not a "mexican" restaurant, but more of a Peruvian with latin fusion with BYOB. The set up is a little chaotic, but if you want to sit outside, it's a decent spot to hang out. The chips and salsas weren't bad. We ordered the yuca frita, fish taco, cuban sandwich and flan. The best part of the meal was the yuca frita and flan - I definitely recommend these if you just want a quick meal of an appetizer and dessert. Unfortunately, the fish taco and cuban sandwich left much to be desired. They were bland and not at all what we expected. Additionally, they don't have corn tortillas. Service was okay. There was easy access to several bottles of hand sanitizer I love this hole in the wall and it is a must for lunch whenever I'm in Athens. Tip: It's Cash only and you can BYOB for $2.00. They serve NO alcohol. They have Burritos, Empanadas, delicious Fish Tacos and more. I usually get the Chicken Milanesa Sandwich which is wonderful. A side of dark sweet maduros (very ripe plantains) are always a good choice. I would love to work my way thru the whole menu- but I keep going back to the delicious Chicken Milanesa Ha! I'm sold! Y'all the food here is so good! We ordered everything from sandwiches to wings to tacos and everything was BOMB. I also tried some of a burrito and the steak and fried rice and WOW. Easily one of the BEST fish tacos I've had in a while. The Cuban sandwich with chirrizo and the Cubano Especial we're both hearty and delicious. Some of the best sandwiches I've had in a while! Also for the price, you can't be beat. So cheap for large portions. The restaurant itself is a very hodge podge mess of a decor. It's like if your hippie cousin decided to open up a restaurant and furnished it with garage sale finds. There's room for large groups and an outdoor patio area. Food is always great (I almost always order the quesadilla/fish tacos are too greasy) , I've been going here for about 6 years. Atmosphere is nice. Potentially a long wait time and/or lots of people. Don't expect them to do more than drop your plate at the table. They will never give you sour cream if you ask, or any sauce for that matter. If they do, it'll come out when you are finished eating. If you ask at the counter, expect to stand there for 15-20 minutes... because they still haven't come up with the bright idea of leaving sauces out for people to grab themselves. At this point I don't expect them to come back if I ask for anything, they always seem agreeable and know what you're talking about then they just go back to doing other random shit whether they are busy or not. read more

What are yall buying here that makes the ratings so high? Cuz idk. Because my food was as marginal as the service. The set up is very confusing. There's nothing letting you know to come inside to order your food then sit go find a down. Then theres two doors so figured out where the line actually is located I came here twice and both times felt like a waste of time. They then said how they were as confused as my first visit but I could go first even tho I was there before them. Smh. The young lady taking my order seemed blah . Two people came in from outside with requests and she didn't even acknowledge me and took customer after customer. Ummm okay. I greeted her and she was like anyway basically what you want lol. Missing this gem from my time spent in Athens! The beef empanadas with the purple cabbage and cilantro with their green sauce are a crowd favorite. A family member recommended this place to us, and the food was really good. My eyes were bigger than my stomach when I was tostones and empanadas, which were really good. I probably could have just had that as my meal. The chicken empanada was delicious with shredded chicken inside a nice flaky pastry. I ordered a Cuban sandwich...not the traditional one with ham, cheese... steak was pretty good with lettuce Mayo cheese. I think what made the sandwich was the fresh bread it was on. The mojito was delicious. The pitcher of guava frozen margaritas was ok...not very flavorful, and they didn't have the traditional frozen as an option (maybe it was just the night we were there). The restaurant is huge, festive, and very family friendly with 25 cent rides along 2 walls of the restaurant. Our table also ordered and enjoyed steak burritos. One of my top three spots in Athens and a strong contender for the #1 slot! The atmosphere is laid-back and the food is incredible. It's the perfect place to relax with friends after a long day of work or classes, or if you're gearing up for a weekend of Georgia football. El Sandwich Cubano with chicken is one of the best things I have ever eaten. It is my go-to meal here and every time I go it is even better than I remembered it. Chicken, melted cheese, jalapenos, grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo are all packed into crisp bread. It's huge. It's cheap (under $7!). It's incredible. Ask for an extra side of the chipotle sauce because it's not something you can ever have enough of. Another amazing dish is the Cebiche. At just under $14, it is on the pricier side of the menu; however, it is a large plate. I'd recommend splitting it between two people, in addition to ordering individual entrees. It's refreshing and delicious. Los Fish Tacos are also a trusty choice. While not as heavy as El Sandwich Cubano, they are still filling and come with that awesome chipotle sauce as well. The Chips & Queso are standard yet satisfying. You order at the counter, seat yourself, and the food is brought to your table. It is cash only, so you'll need to plan ahead. BYOB for a $2 fee. Seating is mostly outdoors, but indoor tables are available as well. The line can get very lengthy, especially in the evenings and on the weekends, but it is worth the wait. Came for lunch with my husband and son. Remember that it is a cash only place. We came in at an off hour so there was no wait. I ordered the steak burrito with a side salad. I asked for no peppers but it was loaded with green peppers. Ugh. I didn't send it back and chose to just pick them out. The burrito was nice and hot and fresh.
