I was trying to be healthy-ish so I ordered a small Cobb Salad ($9.99) without the blue cheese and blue cheese dressing, and I made it a Soup & Drink Combo (+$7.95) with the clam chowder. In retrospect the combos wasn't that great of a deal and I was better off ordered a la carte. I just ordered quickly because I didn't want to hold up the line during peak lunch hours. The clam chowder was really good. They gave me bread with it and I was just going to try a bite, but THE BREAD WAS SO GOOD, I ended up eating all of the bread they gave me. I eat so slow compared to the boys they finished their sandwiches before I even finished my soup. I asked the staff for lid to take my salad togo. I ate it later on and the salad was really good. I have been coming to Sequoia Sandwich Company for many years, and as an elderly customer who has supported this business for a long time, it really hurts to say that I left feeling disappointed, uncomfortable, and frankly disgusted. What upset me the most was watching employees handle food without gloves, including handing food to dine-in customers, while also working the register and doing other tasks. Seeing someone handle money, touch the register and other surfaces, and then go right back to handling food without gloves was extremely upsetting to me. I understand that employees have many responsibilities, but as a customer, I should not have to sit there wondering whether the food being handed to me has been handled in a clean and sanitary manner. I came in expecting to enjoy a meal from a place I have trusted for years, and instead I found myself feeling uneasy about eating it. Maybe some people will say I'm being overly concerned, but when you've been a customer for many years, you notice when things don't feel right. Basic cleanliness and proper food handling should never be something customers have to worry about. It genuinely saddens me because I have supported this business for so long. I don't want to see a place I've enjoyed for years lose sight of something as important as cleanliness and customer confidence. I sincerely hope the owners and management read this and take it seriously. Please pay closer attention to how employees handle food, especially when they are also handling money and touching other surfaces. Just a huge ball of turkey meat right in the middle of the bread. I attempted to open the sandwich and spread the turkey around but it was messy and I gave up. I ate 70% of it and threw the rest away. I would have thrown the entire sandwich away but since I was to be stuck in jury duty I didn't want my stomach growling. I still am not a fan of Sequoia and will most likely not come back for a sandwich. I am however I huge fan of their cheesecake lol and usually go there just for that.
