We enjoyed exploring the island and it was great to have a golf cart. The boat was nice, and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. It wasn't the most organized tour we've been on; the boat loaded late, and then when the company realized they had overbooked, we had to change to a larger boat before FINALLY getting underway. Lunch is included in the price of the tour; it's a buffet lunch with a choice of two entrees, several sides, and dessert. It was bland and not so great. The golf cart was nice and we had a blast exploring the island - it really is undeveloped and the beach is terrific. read more

Totally enjoyed our trip. Did the package with the golf cart. Age ranges from 1.5 year old to 70. All had a good time. The food included was good and filling (southern fare, chicken, mac n cheese, collard greens, peach cobbler, etc.) Plenty of portions and then time to see the island via golf cart- so much fun. Probably would take two days to see whole island, next time we are going to check out the costs of the mini cabins there near the dock. The ferry ride in and out were about 45 minutes each. We sat top deck and just enjoyed the views of dolphins and various wildlife. Captain and narrator had some funny stories to share. The intercom cut out a few times but we were having too much fun to notice. This is a laid back tour. Great way to spend a day cooling off from the hot Hilton Head beaches. read more

When I called to make my reservation to Daufuskie I initially asked about bringing bikes. The gentleman I spoke with told me we could bring bikes, but it wouldn't be the best idea because of the roads on the island. On his recommendation we opted for a golf cart. Good choice. On the way to the island we listened to a recording of a guy talking about the island. He sounded drunk. The driver on the boat gave information that was more helpful. He also pointed out dolphins and other points of interest. On the way back I took my 2-year-old up to look into the crew cabin and the driver even let him sit in the captain seat for a few minutes. Son wanted to explore Daufuskie as he thought riding around in golf carts would be fun. 7 of us on the tour, ages 6 to 45 so we had to get 2 golf carts. Had asked about a kids rate when making reservation and was told kids would be 33 but didn't include lunch - 4 kids in our group. Checked in and was told that rate isn't possible as it wouldn't cover the golf cart rental - they comp'd one of the kids but comp didn't include meal for the kid so we had to pay that separately. The lady at the check in was quite rude overall. Kids did enjoy the boat ride and golf carts. Food was okay. I can say I've done the tour but definitely don't need to do it again... read more

We made reservations to visit Dafuskie over the phone and were told the boat would leave at 11. We got to the dock a little before 11, and were told we were too late. Apparently they require people to check in 30 minutes prior to leaving time, this was not communicated on the phone. The lady working the desk was rather rude and demeaning. We did end up getting onto the boat because it came back for us. The staff on the boat were very friendly and polite as were people on the island. Included in our ticket price was a lunch (which was good) and a golf cart (which was fun). However, the island is a little confusing and the streets aren't all well marked. Be aware of that when you are trying to navigate the island. read more

Our family had a wonderful time on the Calibogue cruises ferry and on Daufuskie Island. My husband and I and our four kids (ages 6, 10, 13, 15) went on the trip. We saw a bunch of dolphins very close to the boat and our kids loved going all over the ferry, exploring the different parts of the boat. The crew of the boat was friendly and the captain pointed out several points of interest over the intercom which was helpful. Once we got to Daufuskie we had a blast! We picked up our reserved golf carts and first headed out to the beach. Be aware though, that this beach seems much more like a lake in that the water is kind of murky and the water only gently laps up to the shore. It was a lot of fun for our family to walk along the shore, searching for shells and sea creatures. It is a very peaceful beach with very few people. Then, the skies opened up and it started pouring! Despite the downpour, we had a ton of fun in our golf carts while we were touring the island. It's possible splashing through the huge puddles made it even more fun. It was somewhat challenging to locate the historical sites, but what we did see was interesting. It would help if they had better signage on the island. When it was time to head back to the marina to catch the ferry back, we waited in the restaurant that is right by the water because it was still pouring. We ordered a few appetizers (shrimp and nachos) which were not great, but not terrible. The bathroom in that establishment is quite dirty and in need of some TLC though. There are some very interesting historical artifacts in the restaurant which we enjoyed learning about. A couple things to note: - The maps are not great. It was difficult to find several of the historical points and we got lost several times (that made it even more of an adventure in my opinion) - There are a lot of biting/stinging flies so be sure you bring bug spray. - Look up the times the various restaurants and attractions are open beforehand because one restaurant that we wanted to go to (Marshside Mamas) closed in the middle of the day. Also important - If you want to save big $$ on this trip you can find one of those info kiosks in the Coligny shopping area where they are signing people up to learn about their travel program. The travel program "tour" only took us 50 mins and in return we got to choose from a bunch of discount attractions. We chose Daufuskie - so, we only paid $100 total for the six of us to get ferry transportation to and from and also for two golf carts. It would have cost us over $250 if we had paid the regular rates. read more

Unfortunate bad experience with Calibogue Cruises last weekend. Their website, enjoydaufuskie.com, gave very general info (no prices for the ferry ride, for example) of ferry service from HHI to Daufuskie. After a 1.5 hour drive to the Marina we were met with an unfriendly woman who sold us three ferry tickets and a "mandatory" (?) golf cart rental, for $152. A little steep, but we figured what the heck, it will be a nice day trip. While waiting in the parking lot (no area to sit) she came over and told us that the times on the tickets were wrong - that the ferry would depart earlier and come home later, and there "were no other options." These were not the times on the website; she said, "Oh, well the website is wrong and we changed things." Ugh. We got in line to get a refund, ironically behind a woman also complaining about incorrect website info and also requesting a refund. Odd experience with little customer service. read more

While visiting my dad over Father's Day weekend, we made a last-minute plan to try to get to Daufauski Island via ferry and do the golf cart tour. It was a spontaneous trip and, as we were driving up from Savannah, we knew there was a good chance we'd miss the 11am ferry that morning. We finally got to the parking lot at about 11:05 - guessing we had already missed it, but wanting to check, we ran up to the check-in kiosk and asked (very jovially) if we were too late. The woman behind the desk didn't even give a "hello" before rudely explaining that we had missed it, but it wouldn't have mattered because we didn't have reservations anyway. Got it - they require reservations - we weren't mad at that - we hadn't really done our planning. But when we (again, very politely) asked if there were any other options we were met with a lot of side-eye, "no's," and attitude. Unfortunately, for Calibogue Cruises, anyone with a cell phone and some Google skills can prove this completely untrue within seconds (we opted to search while we were still standing in front of the kiosk - very satisfying). Of course there are other options. For a *bit* more $$$ try booking a trip over to Daufauskie through H20 Watersports (also, just a note, you have to pay $7 to enter the Sea Pines area of the island, but worth it if you're making a day trip of it). The people at H20 were not only EXTREMELY friendly and helpful, they can make personalized accommodations depending on the times you'd like to go and return. H20 Watersports really saved our spontaneous Father's Day fun - Calibogue Cruises left a lot to be desired (and we didn't even ferry or tour with them!) read more

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our trip to Daufuskie Island. As mentioned in other reviews, this is not a very organized trip and there is much room for improvement. However, we did not encounter any of the issues mentioned in some reviews. We had no troubles with our golf cart, the provided map was detailed enough to find our way around to enjoy the island, and the boat ride on the way there was beautiful and informative. We even got to see dolphins swimming alongside the boat. They offer an option without a golf cart experience; however, it is basically a necessity to have the cart due to the size of the island and the distance between activities. Lunch was provided and could be redeemed at the Old Daufuskie Crab Company. This place was a different experience and we were not pleased with the service as wait time was nearly an hour for simple fried food, but the food was good just not great or amazing. I'm glad we did not encounter any major issues with this tour and it was certainly a day well spent. We most likely will not revisit the island again since it is very limited, but I would recommend to anyone visiting Hilton Head to at least go once. read more

Signed up for the Cruise/Guided Tour on August 2015. The tour was the Daufuskie Island package. The Boat trip over was pleasant and upon arrival we were provided with a lunch that was actually good. Following lunch the trip went sideways and then downhill. The guided tour consisted of sitting in a bus that was filthy with no A/C. The bus was an old school bus that should have been scraped years ago. Our tour guide was actually the owner of Calibogue Cruises. We made only 4 stops during a more than 4 hour drive. Most of the talk revolved around personal issues and the subjective nature of the talk made us uncomfortable. I could not wait to get the tour over with. We did not stop at many of the "historical points" noted in the brochure. We just drove by these areas and Vic said there's the school house, there's an eagles nest, there's the Silver Dew Pottery house, there's the Iron Fish Gallery...you get the point. What a disappointment. We did not even drive by some of the other areas mentioned in the brochure. Our tour ended and we had to wait over an hour before the arrival of the boat to take us off the island. When the boat arrived there was a problem with it and we had to wait for another boat to be sent. We arrived back to our embarkation point 2 hours late. Since Vic owns everything here, he had the added benefit of selling food while we waited on the second boat to arrive. In fairness, a free drink was offered to us while we waited. I'm a non drinker so no big deal. The company has done a great job with marketing and developing an interesting brochure but they failed to deliver what I expected. A waste of time and money in my opinion. read more
