Gave Calientes a second try the other night and it was a lot better. They sent me a gift card bc I complained about my last order. (Thank you) When you call to place an order it seems like the staple time they give you is in between 45-90 minutes. I picked up my pizza in 30 minutes and it was sitting on the shelf. They need to get a better grip on time. I think that the problem has something to do with kitchen management. They have a good product but no one wants a cold pizza. read more

This isn't my first time ordering delivery from this location, but it is my last time. I ordered a large cheese pizza and breadsticks. Simple, right? Well, 40 minutes later, the driver arrives. My first visit to caliente. Had to go since the publicity about the chef winning a pizza competition in Italy. First, a nice draft beer list and not a crowd in the early afternoon. Of course we ordered the Mee maw, which is the winning pizza. Lots of toppings bacon, broccoli rabe, two cheeses, etc., but they work together hot and cold (saved some for breakfast). The dough was my favorite part. Following the trend for square thicker pizza,the dough which is proofed for 5 days was the winner for me. With just enough lusciousness from Olive oil it was a terrific delivery vehicle for the topping, and was just not the texture and flavor of cardboard like some pizza crust. Heard that this pizza won awards and decided to try it. Ordered a Detroit style with 1/2 pepperoni. First off it was rather expensive for an 8 cut pizza. $25. It was like eating a doughball. If I could NO stars I would. The waitress was very nice but have been waiting for 2.5 hours for a 3 pizzas. The place was very crowded but not for that long. Had drinks and no apps. Late to go anywhere else. If you have a choice do not go here. I can only imagine that they forgot about our order. They offered no comps at al which is pretty unacceptable at this point. Very disappointing, read some other reviews but decided to try it anyway as we have had decent food here before (pizza) my wife ordered a grilled chicken salad, which was a giant box of lettuce with minimal toppings, let me re-phrase that, the toppings were sparse, my buffalo chicken hoagie was the same, a giant bun with seven small pieces of chicken and a small amount of melted cheese. We ordered a hamburger for my son which he described as edible but nothing special. The fries were overdone. With so many other options, we won't be coming back. read more

Wife and I were in the neighborhood and had a hankering for a burger, so we stopped in. She had the mushroom and swiss, I had the bacon burger. Besides being a tad past medium, like we ordered, they were both EXCELLENT!! And the fries were AWESOME! Just like boardwalk fries! I've had their pizza many times when I lived in Bloomfield and loved it. On Monday I came here with my 1 year old and 4 year old boys for a guys night. There is no hostess, so it took us about 5 minutes of waiting just to get seated in one of the empty tables. We got our drinks quickly, but then waited another 10-15 minutes for the waitress to show up to get our order, and only after I stood up and motioned to get her attention. we ordered. 40 minutes later, no food. Kids are getting cranky. No updates on our order. Waitress nowhere to be found. I finally had to leave the table to go search for our waitress. She said she would check on our order. So here's the thing about Caliente on Castle Shannon Blvd: their food is good (when they actually give you what you order) but their service/management just sucks. I've eaten there multiple times and ordered take out a couple of times and I've never had a good experience from beginning to end. When you order a beer, you find out they don't have it but no worries, they'll bring by another one in a half hour. Did you get take out? Well, you get to wait 25 minutes while they apologize about their "new system," which apparently is just continuously new and unconquerable since they've been open for weeks and it's always "new". One thing they won't get right is your order. I've been given the wrong thing 2 times and then questioned by the staff like I'm a moron for actually knowing what I ordered. Funnily enough, I didn't actually order two slices of someone's left over pizza. Take a look at the attached pic of their loaded fries. The menu says "Loaded Fries your choice of French or Buffalo Fries loaded with Mozzarella, Provolone & Bacon" but what you actually get are soggy fries with nacho cheese and some bacon. But their pizza is good. So are their wings. But stick to that when ordering. It doesn't seem like they are on their game with other menu items. The problem is that there is a lot of competition around them in Mt Lebanon. They aren't the only quality pizza shop or brew pub in a half mile radius. In fact, there are 3 pizza joints and 2 bars that arguably have better pizza and beers within a 5 minute walk. If their service and experience doesn't get better, the good news for me is that there are better options available elsewhere. read more

Caliente pizza receives a lot of hype but I don't think it is as good as people say. We've ordered caliente delivery multiple times and have never been that impressed. It's not bad but it's not "wow" either. We usually get a pizza of some sort and then a salad or an appetizer. THE BAD: I took one star away because they didn't take enough caution to ensure my pizza was hot upon deliver (it was super cold last night) and they put hot fries in a styrofoam tray then in a plastic bag and tied it (without poking holes in the styrofoam so they could breath). The fries were soggy and unseasoned. NOW THE GOOD: I heated up the pizza and fries in the oven, added a little seasoning to the fries and they both were !!! We ordered the ranchero steak and The Godfather sandwiches and both were stacked with meat, bread was crusted on the outside and soft in the inside and again...! Placed an order online and was advised my estimated delivery time was 30 minutes after the order was placed. Pretty standard for a Tuesday night. After 40 minutes PAST my estimated delivery time, I called to see what was going on considering I only live 6 minutes from the location, and the employee proceeds to tell me it'll be a 2 hour wait. When I told her the website did NOT show that and they need to update their site, she proceeds to tell me "it doesn't show everything online". On top of this, my order was way overpriced. I didn't read the reviews on yelp yet for this location until after I received my order and saw all the bad experiences people had with this place. My fiancée and I have been to your location numerous times. We find the pizza decent and the options for vegans not bad. On 11/6, we ordered from you guys and drove 30+ minutes to pick it up. Worth it to drive that far for decent pizza when done right despite having quite a few better options nearby(Harry's, Anthony's and Grandes). We ordered a pizza with vegan pepperoni, we received it and there wasn't any on it. We got home before we thought to check. When we called back, the takeout guy told us we could get a remake and come pick it up or they would just refund us. I told him we would appreciate a refund since it would be an hour round trip to come back and pickup the new pie. He told us that wouldn't be a problem and said to watch for the refund. We called back at 5 days and 7 days to follow up and were told it takes 12-15 days to go back on our card. This evening I call and ask for a manager, she proceeded to tell me we were never offered a refund only a $5 discount off our next order. Mind you this order was $30+. I made sure to tell your manager on duty this is terrible customer service and I'll be sure as a restauranteur myself to not frequent your establishment again. read more

Beer and pizza, a match made in Heaven! Thankfully Caliente has a good variety of both! Caliente is both an eat in and take out restaurant, and they also provide delivery which is a plus. I typically stick with the pizza options when I come, but they do have a variety of other food options as well. My favorite pizza here is the Chicken Ranchero, which is basically a chicken bacon ranch style pizza. I definitely recommend giving it a try. While I have had positive dining experiences in the past, I am only giving Caliente 3 stars at this time due to the poor service I received on my most recent visit. I am hoping it was just a bad day and that it will not happen again in the future, because I do enjoy dining at Caliente. read more

EDIT: after giving another chance, we are dropping our review from 5, to 3, now 1. A member of our family became very ill after eating here. We discovered undercooked chicken in our orders. :( I felt off after eating here, but only had a salad and fries! You can search restaurants on the health department's website and it looks like they struggle with safe handling /storing of food. This is not ok. I know the service here has been lacking lately, so why should safety be any different. We used to visit /order from here 3-5 times a WEEK. We were very loyal and sent many customers your way. We saw a gradual fall in the rating of this restaurant and as it did, we started noticing orders that never show up, poorly prepared orders, confusing situations when our food arrived and just all around poor customer service. We will no longer recommend Caliente and will be finding a new regular place to support. I truly hope management kicks into gear here. So I happen to pass this place a week ago and yesterday decided to stop there for dinner. Much bigger inside then what I thought with a few pieces of decor that popped out to me. We sat in the dinning area down stairs which had a bar. Also there was a bar upstairs that we didn't go see so I need to explore that next time Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. They had a nice little beer selection with local brewery's included! They will let you sample the beers which they put in little shot glasses for you. We tried 3 of them and went with a Stone Mocha IPA which was a new experience for me. Mix of stout with IPA which was surprisingly good! For dinner we went with basic bar "type" food. Ordered the fried zucchini and 5 cheese large gourmet pizza . The zucchini was cooked perfectly for me. Thin sliced with a nice thin layer of breading and came out nice and hot. As for the pizza I was impressed the crust was very lovely. Crust had a nice exterior with a little crunch and just the right amount of chew to the dough. The cheeses complimented the crust well. Have to say for my first time here I was surprised how good everything was. Hope to get the chance to try some other things on their menu read more

Third times a charm! We've ordered from the Castle Shannon location 3 times in the passed month and the first pizza was cold like cardboard. So we thought let's try their make your own pizza where all ingredients come in the box for you to enjoy at home. We arrive home with zero cheese in the box for our pizza. After picking up our order on our third visit, where we ordered extra dipping sauce and 2 Ranch dressing for our Pepperoni rolls and Chessy bread, we return home to find zero Sauce and zero Ranch dressing and cold bread. We went here for the first time last night and weren't sure what to expect. For starters, the smell outside was intoxicating. When we went in it was much busier than expected so we sat down at the bar. The bar staff was very friendly and attentive despite being extremely busy. My husband ordered a Boulevard beer which, he was SO excited about since we are from Kansas City! We then ordered the Angie fries and a medium pepperoni pizza. The fries were great but the pizza was downright amazing. The crust was light and airy and the sauce was very fresh with chunks of tomato. I've been here twice now and I have to say this place is just kinda "meh" the first time I had got two different flavors of wings and I have to say there sauces are ok. And as well as a buffalo chicken pizza that was good but pretty hard to mess up. Decided to come here again to give it another go and this time got there big New York style pizza. The pizza it's self was HUGE but the first thing that comes to mind was how soggy and soft the crust was. I got the hot honey and that was definitely pretty good tasting on the pizza but other than that it just tasted so bland. I also got a order of the stuffed rolls with the bacon cheese and jalapeños. I have to say being they where half priced made it a good deal. They where good by there self but the dipping sauce tasted like 1000 island dressing and all you could taste was relish in it. For a place that won awards for the best pizza it sure does lack in a lot of areas and the dough seems to be nothing fantastic. On a positive note the server both times was very nice but overall I highly doubt I'll be returning here in the future. read more

One of our favorite pizza places in Pittsburgh! The service is mediocre, but the food is worth it!

Listen, this place had its beer menu expertly curated and down to a beautiful science. On top of that all of the drafts are half off for happy hour. The beer alone accounts for the quality of this place...unfortunately, there are many things that detract from it. The seriously largest strike I have against them is that they use plastic plates and utensils!! This is 2017!! I can't image how much waste this place is putting out on daily basis. Unless, of course, they are washing each plastic plate and recycling them (didn't see a recycling bin out back). It's a really darn shame. I would have politely discussed this and the reason behind it with the server, but while she was back and forth a few times, she didn't stay long enough for me to get a word in. Also, the server didn't seem to be aware of the special beer releases happening. Other than that, there was no paper towel dispenser and no door on the men's stall. I seriously felt like I was in some college bar in the South Side. So, I will go there for beer only until they change that outdated behavior of consumption and get the rest of their act together. I once ordered delivery around 9:30-10PM. At 11:30PM, no one had showed up yet. I called, and they said they were busy and the delivery driver would leave soon. Ok.....12:30AM, they said the delivery driver was on their way. Well, it soon was their closing time, no one showed up, no one answered the phone when I called again. I called the next day, and they said the delivery driver should have made it...well I didn't get my order, so obviously the driver did NOT get here. Unapologetic, basically saying I was stupid and wrong. I posted a bad review on their Facebook page, and they took it down and blocked me from making comments. Well it was actually a 0 but that wasn't an option. My husband and I decided to go for dinner. We walk in and are told to seat ourselves, so we did. No one ever brought us menus my husband had to ask for them. There were several servers on and no one even acknowledged us. My husband made a gesture to the hostess who was too busy watching wheel of fortune to come over to the table. The one server decided to put on her coat and go for a smoke break and the other 2 were standing behind the counter. After 10 minutes of waiting we decided to leave. Please tell me how you can run an establishment with employees who don't have a clue.
