I don't understand about all these 5 star reviews. This place is a ripoff! Bought the Groupon to use for 2 synthetic oil changes for around $90 sounded like a good deal. But was told I needed to buy 2 more quarts of oil for additional $30. Afterwards they wanted to sell me wipers for $40 something and I declined. They also mentioned oil pan plug leaks and would cost over $700 to repair. My car is a 2017 Toyota and was always maintained and serviced by Toyota factory. So I don't think I can trust these guys and I won't be coming back for the 2nd oil change. I ended paying an additional $46+ on this oil change. The service writer try to sell me a wheel bearing and new axle because the boot was torn 1200 dollars . There was nothing wrong with the wheel bearing or axle .The axle just had a little grease coming out of the boot. read more

I've been going here for my synthetic oil changes and minor car repairs, such as things that my Mercedes diagnostics alert me to by displaying warnings on the dashboard. There are very good with the matters at hand. If you go in for an oil change and they notice something else needs to be corrected, they alert you and the prices for parts and repairs are better than the Mercedes dealership. TL; DR Yet another dishonest shop. Stay away, you've been warned! File a complaint with DCA BAR California if you are also a victim. Here are the details. I am an ASE certified Master Technician who had been working at three different dealership's service department. For those who don't know what ASE Master Tech is, you only need to know that in each dealership's service department, there is usually only one person per shop who passed all 8 certifications to get the Master Tech certification (think of it as head of technicians), and it generally takes about 25 to 30 years to get there. I left the industry because it does not pay honest technicians enough, but that's a story for another day. I had a recent injury and am unable to lift anything heavy and my car needs an oil change. So I bought a Groupon for 2 conventional oil changes for California Auto Center in Millbrae, CA and made an appointment. My car engine takes 5W-20 viscosity motor oil per manufacturer's specifications. The only other viscosity this engine could take per manufacturer is 0W-20, which came out years after the engine was designed and cost more than 5W-20 with no additional benefits to the engine. No other viscosity fits my engine. After my oil change was done, I noticed that my invoice says they put 5W-30 conventional motor oil in my car. To my horror, I asked the service advisor, and he confirmed that 5W-30 was put into my car. I pointed out that my car actually takes 5W-20, and here comes the dishonest part: 1) The service advisor claims that the Groupon deal that I purchased is only for 5W-30 conventional oil, which is not true. The Groupon deal only states conventional oil with no restrictions on viscosity. 2) I insisted that my car only takes 5W-20 engine oil, then the service advisor said that 5W-20 only comes with fully synthetic, which is also not true. Go to Walmart or your favorite engine oil store, and you will see a great selection of brands of 5W-20 conventional oil. At the point, I realized this is a typical bait-and-switch scheme that almost all car shops do. Giving you oil changes or any service items that they lose money on, but then upsell you other stuff like "upgrading to full synthetic", etc. I know that they put the wrong viscosity and refuse to admit it. I was beyond arguing with them knowing that this is yet another dishonest shop that I have seen too many over the years in my automotive service career. Wasting my time and energy at this shop is just not an ideal way to spend an afternoon that would very likely end up nowhere. Luckily for me, I could wait until my injury recovers and change it back to the correct 5W-20 engine oil. I have 2 cars, and I could just drive my other car until then. For those of you reading this far, there is still hope for the majority of drivers who do not know everything there is to know about their cars and feel HELPLESS when dishonest shops like this become part of their lives. The Bureau of Automotive Repairs (BAR) of California has a complaint department that you could fill out a form online (google DCA BAR complaint). DCA is the government entity that issues and renews Automotive Repair shops and smog check / repair licenses in California, and they are more powerful than you think. I've heard of stories where they send undercover agents to shops to catch illegal behavior. There is also a point system for technicians who conduct questionable behavior. A shop is required to hire technicians that average point is a certain level for certain activities. My point here is, if something unfair happens to you, don't just stand there and argue. They are most likely just laugh at you calling you a Karen behind your back. Get the BAR involved, and maybe share your story in these review website so everyone would know about it and gradually push all these dishonest shops out of business. Oh and of course, you could also buy an all electric car next time you are in the market, so you don't have to deal with engine oil changes, accessory belt, transmission fluid, timing belt, spark plugs, leaky valve covers, check engine lights, fuel lines, failing smog, etc. This will greatly reduce your need to visit a shop. I have had nothing but positive experiences when I take my minivan here for routine maintenance. I really appreciate the free inspection that is included with oil changes. They inform me if there are issues that may require action in the near future, but I have never felt pressure to proceed with an additional service or replacement. The prices seem very reasonable, so I typically opt to do what is recommended. Quick turnaround and car drives with no issues. Here are the services I have gotten done here: -oil changes -tire replacement -brake/pad replacement -CV/axle replacement -pre-purchase inspections My honest opinion is that this is an honest mechanic. I feel that he tries to recommend what is in the best financial interest of his customers. They handle a lot of cars with efficiency. I imagine it is a tough business to be in. PO quoted me 6hrs for labor which I already knew he was lying. The SSF mechanic is only charging me for 2.5hrs at a much lower rate. I've come here a few times over the years, mainly when my regular mechanic is booked. Whether it was a Mercedes or a Honda, they've always been very efficient and reasonable with their service. I've mainly had tires installed, oil changes and transmission fluid service done and I've never had any issues. I had 4 new tires installed on my Toyota Rav4 by Ca. Auto (recommended by Tire Rack where I bought the new tires and shipped to Ca. Auto). After 6 months when I rotate my tires, I found out that their mechanic had over-tight the lug nuts so severe that few of the lugs studs stripped or broken. One hub was damaged and needed to replaced, cost me $1700 to fix. I also had a oil change on my Ford suv and they stripped the anchor screws on the under-carriage shield and the shield fell down while I was driving after a while. Cost me $500 to replace the shield plus special screws. This place used to be my go to place for inexpensive oil changes and tire rotations but end up cost me more than the greedy dealers. read more

Really aggressive and mean mechanic. I was accompanying a friend as they went in for a wheel alignment, the mechanic messed up a collision sensor in the process. He wouldn't give my friend back the key unless he signed a paper saying he had a recent accident in order to cover his mistake. We circled back around to get more information and he got in our faces, literally putting his head in the window and hand on the dashboard. He was telling us that because my friend signed he couldn't be held responsible, but he also claimed that he wasn't familiar with the collision sensors on my friends model, and that we should've taken it to the dealership mechanics. Wish we had known that beforehand, otherwise we would've. This mistake cost my friend over 700 dollars to repair later on. read more

Recommend things more than what you need and if they tell you your engine has a oil leak and it needs to be investigate. Run! Don't fall for their trap. I got a flat tire around Millbrae area, and I was trying to look for a place where I can patch my tire so I can drive back to East Bay safely. Luckily I found this place as they took me in immediately. In addition, they gave me great advice in terms of what kind of patching I can do, and also they did a thorough inspection on the tire. They even charged me cheap for replacing a tire after knowing that I cannot patch it because the previous patch is so close to the new patch. DO NOT COME HERE!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE...DON'T BUY THEIR GROUPON DEAL (wrong/cheap oil and no filter change)!  YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!! Rude, condescending, unprofessional, no etiquette, shady!  Where do I stop? Ordered tires from tirerack and had it shipped here. I myself had to call them 2 days after they received the tires and had to set an appointment but the earliest available time was 6 days later at 12pm.  On the day of the appointment which is a Tuesday btw, came in an hour earlier with my wife to drop off the car and told them that she will be picking it up later whenever they are done. Instead of greeting us with a smile and showing appreciation for my business, the angry Asian guy (see pic) at the counter starts lecturing me on the definition of appointment!? Wow! Who does he think he is?  I reminded him a second time that they do not have to work on it right away and that my wife will come pick it up later whenever they finished so they don't have to rush. He then tells me that they don't have any parking and proceeded to ask me and my wife if we were going to the doctor and made an appointment, would I go there earlier? UNBELIEVABLE!! I'm early not late for Christ's sake! You work at the counter of a dirty auto shop and you are comparing yourself to a doctor?  What a joke!! At this point I'm done with him and his rambling and told him I want my tires back so I can go somewhere else. As I'm loading the tires into my wife's car I guess he heard my conversation with my wife and he rushed out of his hole and starts screaming profanities at me tell me to get the F out!! Wow!! We had unexpected car trouble (intermittent noise, sounded like metal rubbing together) while visiting the Bay Area. We looked through a list of AAA-approved mechanics and he was only mechanic that asked us to come right away. He did a thorough assessment including brake inspection and inspection of the undercarriage. Turns out the problem was a rubber insulation piece from underneath the roof rack was popping out of place. He charged us an incredibly reasonable rate. Got a Groupon for an oil change left the car in got a phone call that two rear tires had slow punctures due to nails in both tires. Keep in mind I drove 10 miles and have a tire warning system on my late model Toyota rav 4 . So no low air warnings up until I left car in. $25 dollars per tire to plug. This seems very suspect on a discount oil change. If this is how the conduct business you need to steer well clear of this business. Straight rip off artists. read more
