There's a meme that says if you're tacos come in that squiggly taco tray, just know they're gonna be trash. And yes they were. I got four tacos. So terrible I forgot what meat. Over priced and only one bite of meat in each. The tortillas tore easy too. Basically radish tacos. I'm Mexican, and I'm upset that yall have this as an option here. Food was so bad I had to go to Taco Bamba after to get my taco fix. I hope someone in management reads this. Give ppl what they pay for. I had no idea this was right down the street from me.... They have a variety of options for everyone. Everything is clearly labeled gluten free, and they are very aware of allergies, make sure to switch out gloves. My very picky child was a little surprised to see blue tortillas and was not interested in even trying it, but thankfully she was hungry enough and now... this is her favorite restaurant! She loves the blue tortillas. She's a big fan of flautas but unfortunately most places use a flour tortilla, but Taco rock uses corn! I ordered takeout from here from here for the first time and overall I felt like everything was very underwhelming. I ordered the Al pastor taco, a Lengua taco, and the breakfast taco. The Al pastor and lengua were bland and chewy. I wish they put some kind of sauce or salsa on top to add more flavor because the toppings they come with were not enough to add flavor. The breakfast taco was good and I think the crema and guacamole really made this taco better. I also ordered chips and queso and a half of my chips were stale, almost like they weren't cooked through all the way to make them crispy. I appreciated the homemade blue tortillas. We came at around 4:30pm on a Tuesday for dinner. It was empty. We've been to Taco Rock (Falls Church) and were fans of the vibe and the really good food. Kiosk ordering is fast and easy. All the tacos are made to order so took a little time. Time to visit the fountain drinks and salsa bar. The habanero is no joke. It's habanero if you like it spicy. If not stick to regular or smokey chipotle. The birria tacos were so crispy/cheesy on the outside and the juicy shredded beef was so flavorful. Dip in the consommé for rehydrating the beef if it gets dry. My son's fav. I love their fish tacos. Both had chunks of super soft and moist fish (Grouper is the better of the 2) with a light super crunchy coating. The tropical salsas perfectly compliment the fried fish. Normally, corn tortillas are too gritty for me but the blue corn tortillas were less gritty. For the messier & juicier tacos, I kinda wished they used 2 tortillas to prevent total mass collapse of the integrity of the taco. But that's what your hands and utensils are for I guess. We tried the Mexican fried rice. It wasn't for me. It tasted weird to me with the spices/seasonings with the egg and chorizo. Might have been better without egg and solid chunks of chorizo? Sadly a disappointment. From Cali and raised on Mexican street food my whole life. WDC Metro has been a huge challenge. Margaritas 3 stars. Nice bite and good size Tacos. 1 star. Has Taco Rock (Oakton) slipped? I have always enjoyed Taco Rock, but yesterday was a disappointment. My server was very nice and did a great job! They are always pleasant and attentive. The restaurant was very busy and always looks clean. The tacos that I normally get were not good at all. They were more filler and a lot less meat than usual. The lobster taco and the chili belly tacos were awful. I don't know if it was a bad night in the kitchen or if they are severely cutting corners. My favorite taco, the chili belly, had four chunks of meat, two of which were chunks of fat. I discreetly spat them out in my napkin. These were nothing like what I've always gotten and enjoyed. It will be a while before I go back. I'll try the Fall Church location when I'm ready to go again, and hopefully it will be as good as it has always been. read more

Having immensely enjoyed Taco Rock of Rosslyn when I used to live in the area long, long ago, I was initially enthused when I stumbled upon a Vienna location that had somehow snuck into the area without my notice. Such enthusiasm would soon be rebuffed upon opening my to-go boxes; and further rebuked upon taking a bite of what could only be described as disappointing. Nothing about my 2025 experience I had was familiar with my memories from 3 years prior and beyond. The ingredients; the execution; the proportions; the amount of meat; the flavor; and the tortillas, all invoked a despondence I did not know possible while consuming tacos. Save your money and go to Taco Bell; or go to Westover Taco, Tacombi, or Chevy's if you desire something more upscale. Heck, even Taco Bamba, which I find incomprehensibly overrated and mediocre to mildly disappointing at best, fares better than what was once a marquee brand whose name could invoke happy anticipation; but which is now interchangeably used as an adjective or verb meant to convey disparagement. read more

I had never heard of Taco Rock. I like the concept as it was presented in Oakmont. A wall of 4 large screens playing music videos from my childhood. This was a pretty disappointing take out dinner. My husband and I ordered 10 tacos for takeout. The menu is diverse and has a lot of appealing options. I also appreciate how easy customizations are in online ordering (including subbing lettuce wraps and flour tortillas). I'd like to give Taco Rock a try when dining in. This is definitely NOT a good takeout option. Our tacos were cold (and nowhere near even luke warm). My land and sea taco had 1 shrimp and the steak didn't have a good flavor or texture. The we jammin was grilled jerk with pickled cabbage, jerk sauce, diced mango, Fresno peppers. On the jerk the hot to me was primarily in the fresh Fresno peppers on top.. I would have liked my mangos to be a larger dice as I really like mango and hot together, both were tasty! Hubby really liked the rice, black beans were well cooked but unremarkable.... I like to think I am technically savvy but I felt like my dad trying to setup a wireless network. It is totally self service unless you go to the bar. We're sorry. We can't come here anymore. TR used to be our go to for tacos for over a year but the quality has taken a tumble. Our tacos were cold, (and it only takes 10 minutes to get them), so you know they just slapped them together from standing food. Not made fresh. With the cost of going out these days we can no longer afford to spend our money on sub par quality. Such is the restaurant business. TL;DR: Eating this food is like experiencing culinary cognitive dissonance, and I don't know if that's good or bad. Where do I start? For real. Can you tell me? Carne Asada Taco: Flavorless, kinda? If you blindfolded me and asked what I was eating, I would not guess carne asada. It wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't eat it again. Rockfish Taco: Pretty good. I was surprised at the amount of fish, and how well it was prepared. If they added fish and chips to this taco joint's menu, I'd order it. Key West Taco: These people know how to fry a fish. In spite of me not liking this as much as the rockfish taco, I think you can't go wrong with the fried fish options. Colonel Sanders Taco: Not what I want in a taco, but tasted good. This is where I started getting weird things. Smash Burger Taco: Nothing I ever wanted in my life. I got this as a joke. It tasted like the name, so if you want a burger taco it won't miss. Birria Ramen Soup: I love ramen, and I love birria, and I thought this would be a good combo. Not sure if it's the way they make each element or what, but it didn't hit. Stopped in today with my brother and son while in the area for the first time. The atmosphere was awesome and ease of ordering on tablet was nice. The menu has tons of options and everyone should be able to find something tasty. We started with the chips-salsa-guac and then I had 2 classic polo tacos and a Gen TSO cauliflower taco. They were all packed with tasty ingredients. My son had a chicken burrito and my brother got the Birria Crunch wrap. The burrito and crunch wrap were massive potions and stuffed. My brother said it's one of the top Birria things he's had in the DMV since he moved back from Vegas. They had a salsa bar that had 4 kinds, Verde, chipotle, habanero, and mango salsa. Tried the Colonel Sanders Taco, Key West Grouper Taco (sub flour tortilla), and the Loaded Carnitas Taco (sub flour tortilla). All were spectacular! My friend and I came here last Thursday for dinner on national margarita day. They have some bar seating and plenty of tables. They had two bartenders, some cooks and food runners. There's no servers because you order your food at kiosks near the entrance and take a buzzer that lets you know when your food is ready. I think this is a very smart concept except for the fact that you can't order alcohol through there and have to order at the bar. The bar seating was full, so to get two margaritas took some time and you had to stand in between the people sitting down at the bar, which isn't ideal. You would think that they would tell you about drink promotions (such as discounted margaritas for margarita day), but they didn't and we had to find out towards the end of the meal because of a poster inside the restaurant and by that time they had already run out of the required tequila... I ordered the birria crunch wrap, a large prickly pear margarita and then had the banana tres leches and churros for dessert. The birria crunch wrap was my favourite. It had a lot of meat and cheese. The sauces they offer are also good and have varying levels of spiciness. I'd recommend the churos over the banana tres leches. The tres leches was not very moist and was kind of hard. The margarita was more on the bitter/sour side. Honestly, the birria crunch wrap was the only thing that really left an impression on me. read more

We arrived just before a holiday taco-eating contest where we watched one man eat 15 tacos in 3 minutes. For us ladies, two to three tacos and some chips were filling enough. The Memphis: this taco was loaded with BBQ brisket - they are not light-handed when it comes to protein. 5. Birria: the beef consommé for dipping was seasoned just right. 6. Smash burger: I forgot I was eating a taco with this one - it really tasted like a burger. These unique tacos were flavorful and well done. Good enough to make you think you could eat 15 in 3 minutes yourself if you really wanted to Ambiance-wise, it definitely gives the vibe of a small-town sports bar. This used to be our solid Saturday date night spot but the last several visits have been terribly disappointing. We gave it one last shot last night, Nov. 15, 2025 and that is absolutely our last. The food arrived oddly cold/warm. The tortillas were warm but the fillings were spotty cold/warm. It's like they took the filling out of the freezer, put it in a microwave for 30 seconds and slapped it inside a warm tortilla and served it, that kind of cold spots. I got two tacos and both were cold in the middle. Boyfriend got three and all of his were cold in the middle. The Mexican fried rice is usually decent and seems fresh but sometimes it's got hard pieces in it. The staff behind the cook counter spends more time chatting with each other than concerning themselves with the quality of the food. The place used to be crowded on a Saturday night but lately the place is almost empty except for comedy night. Sadly we probably won't even go back for that. A few visits ago we actually returned our tacos to the kitchen because they were cold. They gave us new tacos that were again cold. I came here on a Sunday afternoon between lunch and dinner as I was starving. I had never tried Taco Rock before so this was my first time. I'm spoiled as I live in DC and I have a really good place I go to usually. When choosing the tacos I chose to get two specialty and one regular taco. I had high hopes for the carne asada but when I tried it, I didn't really like the flavoring as it had a little more sauce than to my liking. The loaded carnitas was good especially because of the pork and the bacon on it. So it was very flavorful. Last and not least, I tried the shakedown shrimp. At first bite, it was very crispy and flavorful and I really enjoyed this one. It was one large shrimp in it and I wish I had more inside of the taco. But next time I'll know to order at least two of these. Overall, good tacos but I wouldn't say that I would be running to come back here. The service was good, parking is easy and because it was between lunch and dinner it was really only me and another family in the dining area. The bar had more people sitting around that area . Visited for the first time this evening and loved it! Sat at the bar and talked with the really friendly and helpful waitstaff/bar tenders. There was music playing, but not nearly as loud as some of the other places, so it was very nice to sit and talk with the person I was with. The happy hour drink and food specials are great and go on until 7pm every day! Once our food arrived, we were completely sold. We got 4 different tacos and all were wonderful! Cool Mexican restaurant in Oakton location, with tacos, great birria soup, quesadillas, street corn and lots of interesting variations on traditional Mexican fare, like ramen birria. Food is a cut above other tacos in the area. Ambiance is trendy and fun. Service was quick and friendly. Our 7 year old guest enjoyed the large screen music videos and the kids cheese quesadillas.
