Food is pretty decent here. I always get it to-go. Sometimes they overcook the grilled fish but usually it's perfect. But customer service is not great. It's never a welcoming vibe and when I pick up my order. Earlier this evening, the girl working the counter with her RBF completely ignored me as she was doing something and I stood in front of her. Normally, that is fine- I get it, she can only concentrate on doing one thing. Putting something in a bag, and can't say hello or "I'll be with you in a second" but she continued to ignore me for a few minutes and after she called out the order of one person she rudely said "name?" After I told her my name, she grabbed my bag behind her and "plopped" it down in front of me without saying a word. Before I walked away, I asked her if there were utensils in the bag and she turned around and grabbed a set and literally threw it in my bag. Still did NOT say one word! Hubby & I recently tried California Fish Grill after being told by my in-laws that they loved the food from here. Well hubby & I loved our meals too! I opted to try their new Island Teriyaki Wild Rockfish plate & my husband got some shrimp tacos and together we share a Strawberry Mint Water. Let me just say that we will be returning soon. The rockfish was so moist & rich in flavor. I truly loved the pineapple skewer the meal comes with. It had a bit of spicy kick to it but not too spicy. The sweetness with that kick was downright delicious. My husband absolutely demolished the shrimp tacos & in his words, "I think these are probably the best shrimp tacos I've had in my life up until now" As most couples do we share our meals and we both enjoyed one another's meals. We spilled water on our table and were cleaning it up with napkins. I asked the staff member near the register for napkins, explaining that we were trying to clean up spilled water, and was given roughly three/four (prearranged for orders). Looking at what she game me, I had to ask again and received three to four more (not enough of course for a whole cup spill). She was the only staff member present, and there were no other customers ordering in the store at the time -- she could have offered something more suitable to help clean up the water instead of just handing over a few napkins at a time. After cleaning up, I looked for a trash can to throw away the napkins. She turned around twice! while I was trying to get her attention. I've been hitting up the California Fish Grill in La Habra lately, and it's consistently a solid experience. The service here is honestly superb, it's fast, efficient, and the staff really seems to have their act together. I'm also a big fan of the layout; the inside is always clean, and the outside patio seating is great when the weather is nice. I think the move here is definitely Taco Tuesday. The tacos are around $3.50 to $4, which is a great deal considering the fish tastes super fresh. They're a really good size, too. you actually feel like you're getting your money's worth. My only complaint is that there isn't enough seating inside for people who want to dine in. We come to California Fish Grill whenever we want to eat out but also eat something simple but fast. The staff here have been relatively professional and are responsive when asked for anything. As people who don't eat too much, the portions are relatively large and one order of the swai with a shrimp skewer and sides of rice and rosemary zucchini are enough for me and my dad to split. The food is pretty consistent (though it can be a little bit oil forward), so we leave content most every time. We also stepped out of our comfort zone last time and got the fish and chips and the parmesan string beans and found them to be pretty good. I like California Fish Grill and will continue to go there. This goes for all locations. Across the board, the food is mostly good. They tend to overcook tuna and salmon for my tastes and the batter on the fish and chips is overpowering, but other than that everything is good. Unfortunately, this particular location has gypped us on items the last two times we've gone there. Check your order, because some sides are boxed in separate containers and some are placed along with your main dish. While the servers are always friendly they need to double check what's coming out of the kitchen better. Highlights for me would be the shrimp trio and the swai. I order everything with the sweet chili glaze and love the side of tomato and feta. I also love the brussel sprouts but there is an extra charge for them. Ultimately California Fish Grill is a good option if you are looking for a healthy and light alternative to greasy fast food. I've been going to California Fish Grill before it was franchised all over at their Irvine location. The menu was much simpler then, so I was worried about the experience being worse. Overall it wasn't. Even though it feels more like a factory now, the food is pretty close to what it was. I preferred the zuchinni strips, but they standardized it into smaller zuchinni pieces. One criticism is that the menu seems too big and cluttered now. Which makes it more difficult to order. This location also has limited seating. Recommendations. The Swai still ends up being one of their best options (because some of the other fishes can out a bit overcooked). I still enjoy that they give you lemon and a bunch of salsa/sauce options. read more

My New Go-To for Fresh Fish & Good Vibes! I don't usually write reviews, but I had such a great experience here that I had to share. From the second I walked in, the supervisor Fatima took my order Margret handed me my food both girls made me feel right at home--super friendly and genuinely seemed to care about making sure I had a good meal. If you are not familiar, this is like a Chipotle but with fish and sides. Everything cooked fresh and you choose the cooking style, sauce and sides. I ordered maui maui with sweet thai chili sauce, asparagus (upcharge) and cauliflower rice. It was up quick and I devoured it! It was so good! Loved it! Cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. The dining area was spotless and the employees were helpful. I did ask quite a few questions and they offered a recommendation which I highly appreciated. California Fish Grill sounds like it will be a high end experience, so expectations were high. Walk in and the first impression is cafeteria line. Here's what I mean the door leads straight to an aisle that goes to the kiosk terminals where you place your order. So if it's your first time and you're not familiar with the process you start feeling like you are about to hold up "the line". The screen to order on is nice bright and maybe clean. Tables are limited inside and they are not really welcoming. Functional but not inviting. The staff is busy but doesn't run your food to your table. You will get a text and then you pick up your meal. The food quality is good. Wifey enjoyed her meal. Chowder was pretty good as well. When finished I expected to buss my own tray and table but I was told to leave it by the guy who seemed to be on break. Overall a total underwhelming experience. I went today with my husband and we both really liked our food choices from this location. We usually go to the bigger one in Brea but since we were going to the movies afterwards we decided to go here. I got the Ahi Tuna Cajun style with a side of white rice and fries and a house salad. He got the Sea Bass with half Cajun and half garlic butter with a side of kale slaw and white rice and a Cesar salad. The food came out fairly quick but luckily we were able to find a seat even if the table wasn't clean (I clean it) .
